I have quite a few of the Russian Capture K98ks. I sorted through several crates to get all byf coded rifles with excellent bores. They look pretty good after stripping off the red lacquer. It eventually flakes off anyway. Another interesting K98k is the Turkish capture rifles. The Turks relieved retreating German soldiers of their K98ks. They put Turkish style sling swivels on them, and absorbed them into the inventory. All original markings are intact. No Turkish markings.
Mine is also a Russian capture but still mostly matching It shoots really well And with my time apropriate scope on it it’s an eye catcher on the range everytime
Use S&B 8mm, it is a little more expensive than PPU but the k98 likes their loading better. I get some pretty good 2" groups out my RC k98's with them.
I had one of the Russian capture Lugers once. Only because it was a 1936 issue identical to a nice one I had but that I did not want to shoot. The Russian reworks were pretty quick and dirty IMO. Although they could be OK as shooters. The dip reblue is kinda yuk.
I don't recall but they may have stamped over them in Russia. At least the maker codes were still on. The price he mentions is kinda sad, these reworks always sold dirt cheap in the past compared to originals

Great video! Nice rifle!!
Now you have me wanting to take out mine and check its markings. I just wish my eyes could handle those tjny sights like they used to!
I find that PPU ammo shoots kind of wild for the old military surplus guns.
I see you have a front site hood. That helps a lot. Try it without the hood. And you know what I mean

@TomSherwood-z5l it's always interesting to find out. Mine is a BNZ '43 stamp which came from the Steyr plant. Also an RC. Nice vid!
It’s a script CE 42
Use the 196gr SP instead of the 198gr FMJ. They group better.
