Where did you hear that they've retired from making albums? I know that they've been taking it slowly since "Underworld" (as they said they would), but as far as I know, they haven't retired.
@@reedpeterson6512 Yeah, and GRRM is "taking it slowly" with Winds of Winter. Look, Symphony X will always be my second favourite band behind Zep but the reality is that they just don't have it anymore, whether it be creatively, mentally, physically etc. to put out new material. They are like that athlete that hasn't played a game for several years but hasn't 'officially retired' but everyone knows they're done. And that's fine.

i didn't know that song. The lyrics are quite "frightening" but the song is really entertaining and sounds like a circus or a fair

@@macreefs1155 Wtf! "Without You" is one of their weakest songs of all time. Fucking lame song. I'd say "Underworld", "Charon" and "Kiss of Fire" are the best ones from this album, by far. "Run with the Devil" is just...Ok.

I personally "dislike" it(little pit too strong word for it, rather this does not really do anything for me) because I'm not into worshiping "idols", and take every music as is. Not like "this is Band/artist X wich I like, so it is good". I sadly have not heard anything that does not sound too much like same old, or this kind of too heavy for my tastes(at least these days) stuff from Symphony X since The Odyssey. I quess I would have liked emphasis more on neoclassical and progressive stuff, rather than metal, which is the road Symphony X at least seem to have gone.
Too bad since I respect everyone in the band for their skill level and Michael Romeo has been huge inspiration for my own guitar journey, but I just ain't feeling it anymore. It has nothing to do with envy or some irrational hate that is not based on anything. People have oddly warped understanding and attitudes for criticism in this era imo.

I hate to be the last one on the bus (unfortunately that's what I feel about the last twenty years of my life) - but I've just discovered this band, and regardless of the dispute of whether some songs sound more "prog" or "metallic", as a fresh new listener and not a long-time fan, they sound really polished, professional, and hip as hell. There's definitely elements of prog in there, I guess it's just how much flavor do you want in your soup, or how much sugar do you take in your coffee. It's completely SUBJECTIVE. But on an entirely OBJECTIVE note, this band rocks, and I would love to see them play live, especially as a rock keyboardist myself, the keys here has solos intermixed throughout, the lead guitarist is shredding some mad riffs and solos, this band has it all. Did I forget the awesome vocals of the front man - I mean this band holds up against any equally more bad-ass Swedish prog metal bands of the same generation. Ok, the lyrics can be a little cheesy, that's probably my only sleight, but the videos are great, the songs great, the band is epic! Rock on, looking forward to getting their albums!

lol well better late than never, Evan. and on that note, expect news of them making their next album soon, as they stated last year in an interview that they'd start work on the next album as soon as the pandemic wanes down.
So glad you guys are able to get out there and tour again. I don't know if you've nailed down a theme for a new album, but you should check out the artist zdzisław beksiński. The worlds he creates are so interesting and make me wonder what myths and legends the creatures living in those worlds would tell. It's a little different than the classical myths you've drawn on before, but maybe seeing his work will lead to some novel inspiration. There's a beautiful darkness there that I think would offer a lot to chew on.

I think the whole project stopped after the singer had a deadly incident with his own band ( a couple of band member died if i reckon correctly) a few years ago, he said he wanted to take a break after that but you never know...

As a huge fan of Symphony X, I think that this album sounds a bit rushed compared to their earlier works. I do not blame the artists themselves, but the studio. The music isn't the music I wanted and expected of them. I wanted something great like Paradise Lost or the Odyssey. I do think that this is great, but it isn't progressive like they advertise themselves. But I'm a cynical bastard, so, take what I say with a grain of salt and my opinions aren't yours so please don't take offense to this. :)
X Kaber Wish I could agree that the studio is at fault, but unfortunately Michael Romeo owns the studio in which they recorded anyway. :( I think this is just Mike's creative vision for the time being, as Iconoclast felt a bit like it was going this way to begin with. I see some strong tunes on that album and this one, but overall I'm in the same boat with you regarding the rushed sound of this album (though I feel the same way about Iconoclast as well, to an extent).Regardless, all cynicism aside, I still enjoy all of their albums for different reasons! They're all astonishing musicians and I always look forward to their newest releases, knowing that they may be different from what I expect. :)
X Kaber Correct me if i'm wrong, but as far as I know, Symphony X always make different styles on each album, like Iconoclast, that album is a completly other style of music than the other albums. I also love Paradise Lost and the Odyssey, they are my favorites, but we need to realize that Symphony X doesn't create only one style of music. I agree that Underworld is a bit more rushed but that's just how Symphony X works, each album they explore a new style of music, and we need respect that. :)
Pedro Kruger Agreed, at this point the quality of their releases is more up to the opinion of the listener and what style they've preferred up to this point in Symphony X's career. As much as I prefer their pre-Iconoclast stuff, I can't pretend the quality isn't present in a different way.

+X Kaber I get what youre saying. Personally I think its a great album, GREAT album. I play the guitar and these riffs and solos are still driving me crazy. But I disagree on the 'a bit rushed compared to their earlier works'. Its just a less prog, and more heavy, thats it! And I dislike the "I wanted something more like..." , "I was hoping for something like..." You can get your expectations up high, but when it comes to the album THIS IS THEM. So if you're disappointed its because you dont like SX as much as you thought you did. The same happened to me with Dream theater. Totally loved earlier albums but last 2 really fucked up so I dont like DT as much as 4 years back, but I still enjoy the other albums. You get what im saying, right?
