  • A step by step how to remove, reseal, and reinstall the differential in most E36 BMW 3 series. I also replace the front differential bushing which is a common failure part.
This is my Aegean Blue 97 328i convertible, which I swapped in an S52, M3 front and rear subframes and a lot of other parts in the process of that build. I used an automatic M3 3.38 rear differential and after 5-6k miles, wanted to swap to a 3.15 differential from a 93 325i. I also wanted to replace that bushing that I overlooked when I put this car together. I replaced the rear cover gasket, both axle seals and the pinion seal prior to installing the new differential.
Unfortunately I let this car sit for a couple of years in my lower garage and the clutch hydraulic system wasn't too happy when I tried to drive it again. Thankfully, the only part that failed in that system was the cheap rubber hose in the center of the hydraulic system.
I'm slowly fixing up the few things this car needs so it can go up for sale in the spring. Hate to sell it but there is only so much garage space here.
Don't forget to subscribe, probably have a few more videos to do on this car before its ready!

I now know to sell my noisy-diff F11 rather than try to fix it myself. I love the workshops you US guys have - in the UK we have tiny little sheds instead.

Great video man. I just got an m3 diff for my 328i. Tring to decide weather I want to hack it myself. Shop wants to charge 800 and knowing them it will need seals and bushings and will actually be 1000+

I'm petty sure all of those axle and driveshaft bolts are torque-to-yield and should not be reused. Although it does cost over 100 bucks to replace them with OEM.

They are definitely not torque to yield

@@I_Do_Cars Huh. I could have sworn BMW TIS says to not reuse the bolts (for the E9X anyways). I guess I assumed it was because they were TTY.

You have cobwebs on your Car, it’s time to drive it instead of just storing it. 🕷
