  • Learn the steps involved in giving a bed bath to a patient, what items are required, and what a caregiver needs to pay attention to when giving a bed bath. You will learn how you can change the bed sheets at the same time, while helping a bedridden person put on clean clothes.
However, if you are not confident in bathing a bedridden loved one by yourself, please ask for assistance from a fellow family member.
Here are some frequently asked questions that you may find helpful.
🤔What supplies do I need to give a bed bath?
You will need a variety of items within reach.
    1. Oral Hygiene items (toothbrush, toothpaste, mouthwash, small container, plastic mug, oral swab sticks)
    2. Bed Bathing items (basin, washcloths, face towel, bath towel, soap, powder, moisturiser, cotton wool and a few other optional items)
    3. Clean clothing (sheets, pillowcases, diapers)
🤔What is a bed bath, and when is it needed?
A bed bath is a method of cleaning individuals who cannot bathe conventionally due to mobility limitations. Thus, a bed bath is very important for bedridden patients or those recovering from surgery.

I wish my mother was this accommodating. She has late stage dementia, very limited mobility and she gets terrified and confused whenever I try to maneuver her in any way. It takes a LOT of convincing for her to just move her arms.

Thank you I learned first, how to change the bed while your loved one is in it. I learned that its important to allow them to help in the process as much as possible too! I also learned that there is a certain way to maneuver them to allow for easier dressing. I care for my 103 year old grandmother and this video will make bathing time much easier and less frustrating for the both of us.

You turn the patient to your opposite side without raising the bed side rails.
Never forget the use of that side rails to prevent fall and it can also help patients to pull themselves towards the other side if they are able to do so.

There is a plastic gadget used in hospitals that allows a shampoo while bed ridden too. I borrowed one for my grandmother when I visited her. She was so ashamed of her unkempt hair that she didn’t want to return to her gorgeous assisted living facility. Such a small thing gave this amazing woman back her dignity. And her hair was beautiful, if I say so myself.

For the pain, I would inform her physician. He/she should give your mom medication. For repositioning I use a draw sheet with handles along with a foam wedge for support. If it all possible get help to come in to give you a break or assist you. Yes, it's hard work taking care of a person that is bed bound.

People taking care of relatives rarely use gloves. But in a professional setting it is standard

I am Senior Carer and I don't agree with these procedures...U must not forget to wear PPE also known as Personal Protective Equipment such as gloves and apron to prevent infection....

I totally agree with the procedures on the video. The only crucial flaw I saw was the PPE, specifically the absence of the gloves. Universal Precautions is always the way to go. Otherwise, I thought the tutorial was absolutely great.
