I find the buff to flame lance hilarious. I also find it funny that it now kind of combos with that minion that when it takes damage, it deals it to the hero as well
Unpopular opinion: TGT was a good expansion. The cards had a lot of flavour and it did not push power creep, while giving new tools to existing decks and creating new ones. The bad expansions are the ones like Gadgetzan, Witchwood, Scholomance, Stormwind and many others that completely warped the meta and gave us some of the worst card designs in history.
Totally agree. I remember people being really excited about a lot of these cards, and trying them out was a lot of fun even if many didn't end up being that great. The game was totally different.
AGREED! Sometimes, it's okay to produce inferior cards that are flavorful and fun and ESPECIALLY if they're interesting. They completely forgot that along the way in favor of profit-creep.
About Poisoned Blade, Dane did post a video where he combo'd it with the 0 cost discount hero power from Scabbs and hero power refresh from Beardo to buff it to an absurd degree. Competitive? Nah. Funny? Absolutely
I have a lot of TgT funfact; Here is one : Beneath the ground was meta in tournament ! It was a one of the first card that was able to deny Reno effect, making it perfectly playable. Not very good in ladder play tho. Also, both Bash and Varian see play in standard at one point. Bash was a good tool in control warrior and Varian was a good card in tempo warrior (which was one of the best deck in WotOG) And stop disrespecting Gormok, this card was playable in Zoolock and, despite not being the star of the show, it was a servicable card and one of the few TgT legendary card that was playable at the time.
You’re completely correct about everything. And to echo what you said, bash was a key card in any control deck for a LONG time, and Gormok was an auto include in any aggro deck for a while too. The amount of times the extra damage it pushed enabled the win was pretty crazy. I’ve seen him hate on gormok a few times now and it does start to make me question if he really remembers the expansion
@@FlareIsGone Just seems a bit weird to constantly talk on why the expansion was bad if you didn’t play at the time tho mate. Overall the set was weak, but I have to be honest, a lot of these cards that your saying were unplayable did see quite a bit of play at the time
eadric used to by my favourite legendary! I tried to make it work in wild so many times, but I only had realy succes in twist. I made it to rank 4 legend in that one season of twist when nobody played and people who played, played jade rogue. Eadric was a BEAST against them i my midrange pally, better then EtC or even Equality + Concecrate.
I think Bash was considered pretty okay for 2015 standards, at least for like right after the card came out I believe it saw play in control strategies. y'know, when control was what warrior was known for, back before the end times (pirate warrior).
Confessor Paletress was actually pretty decent during its time in Control Priest. Aviana was also just fine as a way to get a free must kill 5/5 and 1 other big minion. Fist of Jaraxxus was trash for a long time since all the discard effects were random, even by the time of Un'goro with the quest and additional discard support, its not a card you would be running. Varian Wrynn was actually decent just to cheat out some minions with a draw 3 for its time, but it got cut pretty quickly after.
Lol this vid reeks of someone who didnt play at the time saying bash was bad. Literal staple card in control warrior at the time and people did use Varian in some lists but definitely not as popular, still a good card. If youre gonna make a vid like this at least do proper research. The reason TGT was bad is because that most of the real good cards just slotted into already existing decks rather than encourage people to play new ones. Meta was just dry. Only christmas tree pally shoke things up really, good ol dr 6. This expansion did help fight aggro which is nice. Stuff like refreshment vendor was a staple in alot of decks for the healing.
Another reason the expansion wasn't the greatest is because its two main mechanics, joust and inspire, were both bad because they were both way overcosted either in terms of stats or cost for their effects on the vast majority of cards.
Before even start, I dare say TGT, being the worst Expansion actually made it the best Expansion. Basically it prolonged the golden age of Hearthstone (Naxx, Blackrock mountain era) by having relatively low level power cards. Druid) About Astral Communion, its a badly designed card, but in reliability its worse than big priest we had few years ago and in stupidness it was less stupid than Azerite murloc (im still pissed about this excavate "reward" Hunter) The issues of the cards displayed above was HS was pretty different game back then AND Hunter lacked archetypes. Face hunter was pretty much a only viable pick then AND draw was extremely overpriced (remember Shaman's 2 mana draw 2 overload 2 spell?) Also how could you skip thunder bluff valiant, it was the best card in Midrange Shaman deck, god I loved that card (and Sraad)
eadric is a bad card however i had an arena run that managed to generate him in three different games in the run saving me all 3 times so he has a special place in my heart.
As someone that comes and goes from time to time, this expansion is full of cards that I only remember from the times I randomly generated or when I do my dailies in wow at northrend and damn we had so many bad cards that I tried running just for the novelty of if
I wanted to play around with Justicar for so long, but never got to. Now I get to and she's in my armor warrior deck. I would run Baku or Greymane instead, but neither are in core anymore and I don't own them.
Living roots is still my favourite card. It's just a well balanced card, it can provide a lot of value if you manage to hit the face with the tokens for even one turn, and it can be used in other strategies, I remember well the ol' Malygos finishers.
i actually crafted SkyCap'n Kragg last month and used it in my demon hunter pirate deck, got to legend for the first time since i started playing in 2015
I think Rhonin was supposed to be way stronger early in the design process and then they changed idea on him. Tempo Mage with Flamewakers would have loved a way to generate cheap spells since card generation was WAY rarer back in the day. It probably just was a battlecry, still understatted, and probably costed less. Let's remember that the whole point of TGT was to try to slow the meta. Hearthstone's design team wasn't on nerfing or buffing cards at the time which made the team take VERY safe decisions, if not TOO safe, when designing cards for TGT. Let's remember the power level of Naxxramas, GvG and Blackrock in some cards that warped the meta. I think they went back on taking more risks in League of Explorers (just look at Reno) and Whispers of the old gods, where a card like Master of Evolution was extremely hyped by the community just because it was a Yeti with upside. Still a subpar card at the time. The combination of no buffs, no nerfs, super safe card balancing and the will to slow the meta probably led to probably the worst expansion ever. The meta was already very stale and all this expansion did was basically introducing Secret Paladin which basically was curvestone. Zombie Chow -> Shielded Minibot -> Muster for Battle -> Piloted Shredder -> Loatheb -> Mysterious Challenger -> Dr Boom was straight up unbeatable.
Back in the day it was hard to have Antonidas fuel, and would come short a fireball or 2 to win one way or another. I ran Rhonin in a mid/late range mage haha, w block. It helped 😅😂
If they ever buff older sets again, i would like to see them give Wilfred Fizzlebang a battlecry: "For the rest of the game cards drawn from your Hero Power cost (0).

You can hate it as much as you want but that expansion gave me a chance to make my own N'zoth Reno deck with an option to OTK opponent with Maligos + 3 arcane missiles which cost was reduced by Taurissan. And I had fun, I don't care how shitty that deck actually might be :D
You could get another low odds Coldarra Drake infinite in Demon Hunter by playing Lady Prestor with a Felfire Deadeye in hand and hoping for it to be generated in deck. What an incredible Hearthstone card.
heh... Bash is good enough till these days. And wrynn was somehow playable in tempo warrior. And ofc champ was good in tempo dragon warrior. Otherwise horrible cards for warr in this set. Only good card were Justicar kekW

I don't know if I'd consider TGT the worst expansion, power wise? Sure, it was definitely a weak set but TGT didn't make the game unfun (or at least I don't think it made the game unfun because you could just keep playing your old cards and still have fun.) What I think is the worst set is United in Stormwind, before that set I played the game almost every day, after that set until around the release of Festival of Legends I barely played the game outside of the occasional Tavern Brawl (one that I didn't have to build a deck for) that set single handedly ruined the game for me and to this day if I see The Demon Seed played I just concede because I know no matter what I do or how I play, I'm not having fun so I'd rather just go next and hope I don't see another Demon Seed deck. Even to this day after having quite a bit of fun with Whizbang's Workshop and while I'm looking forward to the upcoming expansion due to the expansion teaser making it look all cosmic and space-y (my favourite aesthetic) the damage has been done, it sucks being so alienated by a game I once loved and spent so much money on that it's hard for me to play more than 2-3 games of constructed a week (outside of the fun rng Tavern Brawls.) I'm someone who likes building decks, I'm not very good at it but when I can get a few wins I consider it a success, my favourite deck to play atm is my Deck of Chaos Renathal Warlock it's awful but it's so fun for me. But all the cards that feel like they have no counterplay, combos that hearthstone players would jokingly say "You should've played around it." when they 100-0 you from hand with no warning, it sucks, and it all started with Stormwind. I know OTK decks have existed since the beginning with Antonidas and Sorcerer's Apprentice but it felt like you still had a chance to win against that because it took Antonidas decks time to set up their wincon but when it feels like every deck has the potential to destroy you before you can get to turn 10 it sucks. Sorry if I just rambled and made no sense, I really dislike UiS and what it has done to the game, UiS definitely had some good like the Tradeable keyword and the Elwynn Boar deck was fun (when you can get the Sword) but the damage it has done to how Blizzard has to designs cards is upsetting to me and I hope the new expansion coming out can make the game fun for me again (it is the third expansion of the year so it'll most likely be more powerful than Whizbang's Workshop and Perils in Paradise, surely they won't print anymore balance nightmares :clueless:)
