Great video James. Just for clarity for any viewers or readers of these comments, the daily auctions at Manheim are only open to trade including the evening auction at Colchester which James attended. Account holders can attend physically at any of their 11 auction site across the UK and if you are unable to attend in person, all auctions are available online via Manheim Simulcast. Manheim hold over 130 auctions per month for cars, LCVs, HGV & Plant with over 9,000 vehicles available each week.
Auctions aren't quite the bargain places people think they are. You save on average about £1000-1500 depending on car when compared to a car supermarket but you're also taking a risk.
Great post. Just saw loads of low-mileage 2011 Toyota Aygo going for less than £3k on eBay and it sold at this auction for £3.3k. Why would I pay more for a car and get basically a visual inspection... I don't get it. My advice is to swerve the auctions and go in hard with your first offer on a private sale. Most people just want to get rid of their old car so they can get a new one.
i think 1/2 the problem is that you went to the evening auction so there's private buyers there too, ive always found the day auctions to be more sensible when it comes to buying stock. also in terms of getting your bid seen i find you have better chances using the online services provided, depending on stock funds you could even look around the vehicles in person and place proxy bids online and then wait until you get an email with the invoice of stock won
Buy privately you can check the car out property & test driver and check all the electrics Wirk & air on ect and make an offers well below asking prices….
The advantage with carwow and motorway and the like is it can be done from your office/home, almost set and forget whereas auctions are set times can take a day when you account for travel time etc. Maybe there is data to suggest one is better than the other at specific times of the year?
Such a shame the public can't go anymore as I used to really enjoy it and purchased a few nice cars. I can understand why dealers don't want the odd privateer driving up prices, but surely the auction houses via their charges still make the same or more? Excluding the public feels a bit wrong and expressions like anti competitive, closed shop....etc spring to mind. I suppose its the same in other fields don't get me started on part p electrical. Whinge over, nice video
Bought many cheaper cars at auctions years ago, never had a problem with any of them, annoyingly the ones that cost a lot more were often more troublesome.
Youve got to have some nerve to be a car dealer at an auction. Making a decision about a car within minutes takes a lot of knowledge and ability to work out costs and benefits in your head without any emotion. Good advice from auctioneer.
The problem with FaceTiming John is he’s usually too shy and when he’s holding the camera he prefers to be hush hush as he’s seeing you eye to eye. Ask him about peroxide and you’ll get a never ending story though.
As far as unreliability is concerned nearly EVERY CAR you chose was a mobile red flag 1.4 petrol festa looked okay tho (NO ECOBOOST ENGINE!) always a bid selling point 😂👍
Car auctions…the market is flooded with pros dude.. the chances of you getting anything good is small. The really good stuff the auctioneers make deals with guys that pay them for first dibs.. that’s not supposed to happen but everything is rigged.. anyhow, I wish you luck tho
Where do these guys get their price from 😂 it's a joke way over priced. The cars are worth about HALF what they went for. 😂😂 Old Kia over 6k ... It's worth about £2500 crazy people

Auctions are just reflecting how overpriced used car prices are.
Agree with camera man always check the make of the tyres it gives an insight of how the car was maintained 👍
So a good make means they had cash to look after it. Also same tyres on the front means both were probably changed at the same time which is good.
Was nervous for you watching the video, however perfect insight to auctions thank you great content.
I really was quite nervous! Glad you enjoyed it ^James
Not all the cars at auctions are junk, but all the junk cars are at auctions.

Good advice and information auctions are not the answer for drivers buying private. Better off going to get off a private home
Good job you came back and picked the paper up . I removed the thumbs up and REINSTATED it !
Love auction vids, thanks very entertaining

That Aygo was obscene money
Doesn't surprise me. Easy seller. Very cheap to insure, fuel etc. Also pretty bulletproof. Low risk.
Really good, well done.

Don’t forget you can’t colour match the metal work and the plastic bumpers. They are always close but not perfect in paint matches.
'I can smell bacon'??!!! Was that a reference to the place looking like a police station/custody centre like on cops programmes?🤔😆👊
I bought my first car at BCA in 1995 - a 1989 Vauxhall Astra 'Swing' - I don't recall anyone bidding while eating a pasty though.
Look very pritty on the surface, but what are they like underneath.
Brake pipes, exhaust rust, ball joints, and more.

Can a member of the punblic buy at auction?
Most auctions don't allow that any more.
New subscriber 👍👍

Don't bid till its on sale. Go to a few auctions and get used to the vibe.

If you can smell bacon, there must be police about!
