Your voice sounds so calm, there are times that I become sleepy while watching your vids (not sleepy cuz of boring vid, but due to your hypnotic voice lol)
Another great information video as always. It was nice to meet you at your facility. The amounts of coral you keep are impressive. True eye candy :) The corals I bought from you are doing great. Thanks again Mel & Carol from CT.
I have a huge toadstool leather and it has been propagated several times. Right now it looks like an atomic bomb, a huge stalk and wide head. The stalk is about 5" in diameter and the head is 14" across. When I propagate it, I just give the frags away since it was given to me.
2:00 That "waxy layer" that it sheds is TOXIC and kills other corals. The Sarcophyton (devils hand) Coral was the fist coral I ever got for my new reef tank. ive been struggling with all my other corals not doing well and my candycane getting STN from the brown waxy stuff the leather sheds. Don't even bother trying to keep this with stony coral. Love the videos Than keep them coming
Stony corals don't like anything touching them really. Having said that, we have a tank right now that is half giant leathers and half SPS. The SPS in there are more bothered about touching each other than anything else strangely.
THAN! Great info and beatigul videos as always. Question: Do These toadstools reach a max size? I have one that's 13"x10" and shaped like an ear and the base is the size of my neck. Its 6 years old but only a self frag from when it was this size 3yrs ago, drooped & split from its own weght. Is that just going to keep happening? I Love its contrasting size and visual balance it gives to my reef , but it takes up one whole end of my 90g where many other corals cld grow there and below its shadow on the whole substrate. And isn't pulling its weight in the color dept. Any bigger and its gone.. but sortaxseems to have slowed growth. It shld have been touching the glass by now, but won't.
Awesome video Than! Huge fan! Since your a 'techy' as well as a reefer have you by any chance checked out the new Nokia Lumia phone?! If not its a definite must have for photos on the go or where an actual camera isnt handy. Since we all know nobodies ever without a cellphone on them. Plus true 1080p video. Can't wait for you next video.
Love these types of informational vids. I can see there's been a lot of production effort for this upload, too. Logo on your vid thumbnail looks familiar, though. Just sayin'.
my toadstool coral had been in the tank maybe two weeks and was doing great. It then had a fall off a rock (only about 4 inches high) onto the sandbed. since then it has never come out properly - it occasionally has some fingers extend but not all of them. it still sheds but no matter where i move it, it doesnt seem happy. we have had it for about 2 months now. Any guesses??
@@joshavila1176 Haha, it never recovered fully in the end. Never tried fragging it tho and seeing if the healthy parts grew better that way - maybe worth a try.
Hey great vid🎥 man. I love the info🔎 you put out here for ppl like me. When I have a problem I just turn to (your tube). LOL. Can you do a vid🎥 on the green polyp totoadstool I have one and he's not look to good.
Hi: great video as always. I recently buy a long tentacle piece about a silver dollar or little more size, and is doing great. Is some kind of pinkish cream color and the feather mouth tips are white it's gorgeous. My only concern is placement, I have move him from the sand bed up to the middle side of the tank. There he got nice light intake but low to mid water flow. Where did you recommend me to place this guy. I read that they thrive basic every ware withing the tank. Should I move him to higher flow area, higher in the tank so he can have more movement? Or what did you recommend me? Thanks!
Hey Than. I have bought a toadstool with green pollips but now they lost the green and and are just pink looking. Do you maybe know what the problem can be?
After we came back from holiday although the skimmer was running and we had a person instructed what to do everyday all our Sarcophytons were desintegrated. The last one that was really big had a hole on the bottom and although all the other corals Acantastreas, Lytophyton, Xenias etc were completley well he just turned into dust after free days. Any idea?
What does it mean when my softy (Neon Green Nepthea) has a black coating on it's arms and has started to shrivel? is it being stung? i have it directly next to some GSP.
hi i have a long tentical green Toadstool Leather frag, size of 2" tall. Before purchase it's polyps were long and out. When i get it home it couldn't make its mind up wether to come out or not. 2nd day my hemet crab knock it over so i put it in place gently with my bare hands. Its now 2 weeks and the green tentical/polyps haven't come out. Did i burn/ bruise it by touching it? as there are small dark spots on it? and doest it usually take longer to adjust to the tank. Water is perfect
I just bought a toadstool leather it was very healthy at the reef store but after I put it in my tank it layed over and has not opened. Other corals I bought at the same time opened right up. Water is great. What could be wrong
My toadstool used to be bright green, it was getting too big so I fragged it, when it 'recovered' it was very pale, so were the frags.. it's now a year later, and still no colour.. has anyone heard this before? Iv tried different lighting, changed temps, different flow but still nothing, everything else is thriving.. I'm just about ready to throw them in the bin.
You share this information 9 years ago, I just start exploring how to start and take care reef tank. thanks from Indonesia 😉

Just picked up one of these about 2 weeks ago, this was really helpful! Thanks
Thanks for making this. The leathers shedding explained my problems. Awesome video!
Another great vid than! I love my Tyree green toadstool, it's getting huge very quick.

was that toadstool pulsing?
Does the toadstool toxicity affect bubble tip anemones at all in the same tank?
Do they split on their own?

Lol 4 years ago but any info I n what happened to it? Mine is the same hasn’t opened for months but is still alive
@@joshavila1176 Haha, it never recovered fully in the end. Never tried fragging it tho and seeing if the healthy parts grew better that way - maybe worth a try.
Would the toxins be as big of a problem for corals other than LPS/SPS? Like Zoanthids?
Thanks for the great info! Where is that HUGE reef aquarium footage taken from? The one you showed while speaking about ozone.
That is the Singapore Aquarium. You can see more of it here: ua-cam.com/video/6G9QygmSRbg/v-deo.html
I got mine a week ago and it hasn’t opened yet. It is in a pretty high and moderate flow area but still won’t open
Great In put
Great video Than! Can you comment on cutting leathers?

so if i keep it with mushroom how i manage the wave? if the wave too slow they will be stress but if the flow too high the mushroom wil flew

does activated carbon absorb big 3 and trace element?
Have you ever seen a bicoloured leather? I have a green and blue tie died one
how many hours of light do these corals need
It's very beautiful coral
Another great video. . I have heard about ozone but not many people use it. Hmm...maybe a video on ozone..
Hey Than. I have bought a toadstool with green pollips but now they lost the green and and are just pink looking. Do you maybe know what the problem can be?
Can they be propagated?
I'm having trouble with mine staying open .what am I doing wrong
I've just bought one where is the best place to put him in the tank top middle or bottom
Do these toadstool leather corals co-exist well with octopodes?
Great video, very informative, thanks!

Is there any difference in care with Japanese toadstools ?
No, just treat it as you would any other toadstool leather.
I have a toadstool coral that when I changed it from led to halide lights it doesn't open up as much. Do u think it's too close to the lights
What does it mean when my softy (Neon Green Nepthea) has a black coating on it's arms and has started to shrivel? is it being stung? i have it directly next to some GSP.
That black stuff is decay. I would relocate the coral and remove as much of the black stuff as possible.
thanks for the help!
How do Sarcophytons handle being in the presence of other similar corals like litophytons, capnella, sinularia dura or xenia?
do all toadstools have the same polyps on the tip ?
+Vianey Posada Roughly the same shape but sometimes different colors.
Any downside to using ozone?
How about show the coral?

Sometimes they retract for a few days to shed. You might want to give it more flow to help the process.
Tidal Gardens Inc. thx for reply. Yes its under the fresh flow from the skimmer. It was happy their before the crab and myself touching it.

Could you do an article regarding pros & cons and information about ozone
Heads up on brs ,) they have an upload to educate

Hey, I'm sorry, I though my observation could have been useful for future video improvement. I didn't mean to be rude. Greetings
always with the close-up. ZOOM OUT so we can are the thing. would you buy a car from a picture of the door handle?
Are they toxic to humans
Only if you ingested it. Just having it around is not a big deal.
