I am not from the USA, so I don't know all the details about your constitution, laws or their history. Trumo should be punished by the courts, not by companies who allow Erdogan, Putin and Kim Jong Un to post their propaganda after doing worse things (without warnings btw, I checked today). They also have a very bad record in Germany (where I live) for not doing anything against posts violating our laws for years, because free speech (and because they made money with it). Now we have new laws and they can get fined if they don't investigate and remove illegal post users reported. And once the law was passed, they went full censorship and also removed legal posts (mostly comedy and satire). First and foremost, companies will do what's good for them and their bottom line. So I don't think those companies can handle that in a fair and unbiased way.
We already had a great law that handled this. You should lookup “The Fairness Doctrine”. It kept “News Organizations” honest. Reagan neutered the doctrine and Bush Jr removed it altogether... thus giving Fox News free rein to start erasing the line between “reporting” and “editorializing”. This was by design. Lookup Roger Aile’s memo called "A Plan For Putting the GOP on TV News" from 1970. He said previously -flat out- that if they had had a TV station that was ‘nicer’ to Nixon, Nixon wouldn’t have had to step down. He later met Rupert Murdoch and the rest is history. Rupert and Ailes set out to make a propaganda network and they’ve succeeded beyond any freedom lover’s worst nightmare and that’s why we need to bring back The Fairness Doctrine and enforce it.
