Return of the BASS VI
There's a ton more where that came from!

this is like 2 reverb plugins and 1 distortion plugin away from being a Mk.Gee tutorial lol (this is a compliment btw)
I thought this too!
Mk.Gee is definitely inspiring!
@@BenLevin hell yeah
The way you sung “defeated demon” made me smile.
The finished song is great. It gives me both a Jack Stauber vibe vocally, and a modest mouse vibe instrumentally.
Best vocal sound you've done so far I think. Sometimes it's just nice to hear a voice up front and clear instead of hidden and washed out, which feels especially wasteful when the vocalist is actually very good.
This is nice to hear generally because the last feedback I got on a mix was that the vocals were too far forward, which may be they were that time. But it made me unsure with my most recent project (not posted yet) whether I still had them too far forward or have overcorrected. We'll see.
@@KineticPassioni have that same issue. Sometimes you can just ask friends and it helps a lot
love the idea of recording the guitars acoustic. it makes it feel very "bedroom-y" because that's what it sounds like when you are playing in your room with a tiny little practice amp
I liked this song, especially the goodball part. Pretty catchy
At first I really wanted that song to have drums, but pretty quickly I noticed my head moving to the groove. I can't believe how well it works without them. Fantastic job, dude.
Love this Ben Levin prog! 😂
Ben you’re one of the few people I can think of that don’t need to make any more complicated or interesting parts in your song, but I appreciate that you want to go even further beyond
Props for the thumbnail imagine. Clear, gets the message across, while leaving some intrigue and no click-baity non-sense.
^what they said^
Ben you did it again! Your videos about music remind me of ViHart’s videos about math.
I really enjoyed the song! I really appreciate you putting soul into your demo songs, it reminds me about some beauty in music I don't always see as a deathcore composer and you inspire me to pursue something that reaches further and I could not ask for a greater gift.
Thanks Ben, very cool.
ben levin your teaching style is amazing. you are one of the greats. we love you
Incredibly helpful to people who may feel suffocated by their own complex audio projects (like me haha)
thanks ben!! 🙏🏻
Your videos are so inspiring! Pls never stop ❤️
Inspire me too!
I have always had a good time until next time after these. !!!!
Fantastic video and song!
You're very generous with your knowledge/wisdom! These are meta-musical videos, and thank you for them.
Thanks. I really like these. It also sounds pretty great 2x!
That was killer. I loved how well you fleshed out the rhythm without drums. It’s really nice on the ears.
Mixing in some dry room guitar is also a secret weapon on Good Game albums! There is some magic to it.
Great song, great video, love you say it back
Love you too
You are the one music UA-camr I really needed. Thanks
Good job, Ben. Well explained, well presented and a well-written song. Sometimes things are meaningful even when all you're trying to do is work within a self-created construct. You are food for the creative soul.
always so damn fresh!
Such a good song, good stuff Ben!
I really hope this makes it to spotify
So damn cool
I don't think I've seen a dry electric guitar ever muted, that's super cool.
I meant to say "used" but it was late at night :(
Theres a youtuber named sebasticide that i think helped popularize it. Most of his videos are his cam mic and whatever amp sim he uses
Nor me - really interesting sound
thank you, Ben
Another Ben Levin classic!
he can't be stopped!
Right? Can Ben be anymore Levin than he already is?
Thanks Ben, for producing videos and music that keep me coming back for motivation, inspiration and musical moral support!
Every week I notice the Magic the Gathering cards on Ben's piano. Ben is so cool
I love your new videos! I just had to get Getting Songs Done to access even more of your wholesome wisdom!
Ben you are so talented and inspirational also love the cutaway to the dry mic'd electric guitar at the final verse
That was great! Your lessons helped gave me motivation to finish my album. What I liked the most was that the song gave more room for the vocals and performance. Even without the subtitles I would have been able to follow the complex lyrics because the mix was emphasizing your vocal (which I think should be the case 9 times out of 10). Love it!
vocal delivery reminded me of Baths
Hell yea Ben
Len Bevin Uploads usually make my week, this one made my whole month. Ur are Awesome Bevlin, ur videos rly keep me excited about making stuff. Thanks for being Ben Levin :)
i learn sooooo much from your demonstrations thank you ben SOOOO MUCH
Fun experiment, Ben!
Funny, I did this yesterday without even thinkig about it like this. I was just trying to practice my bass-line improv ability. Then I just played guitar and sang. I wanted to add drums, but my friend said it was perfect without them
Really great, man.
I think you did a great job on this Ben! Adding drums would make it into another song, and I really enjoyed it as is. Nice
needed this video right now! and seconding another comment about the song sounding very mk.gee, i'm absolutely obsessed with his music right now so this could not be more perfect , thanks ben
the bass vi sounds so good
Awesome !
Limitation must really breed creativity because I think this is one of your best songs of all time. Wait here while I listen to it for the 5th time...
GREAT VIDEO!!!!!!! new subscriberio right here.
The reference for minimalistic arrangements that don't sound minimalistic, is Stabilah from Keziah Jones (ua-cam.com/video/M-PypBk31AY/v-deo.html). The whole Liquid Sunshine album, for that matter.
Thanks Ben! ♥️😊
"Who could love me more than something that thirsts for my blood"
That line goes SO fucking hard, always love to see that good-good creative juice from Ben's brain
That was brilliant and groovy as hell!
TAUGHT! TY!!
Great video, Ben!
Thank you! You've been making so much great work!
This is great!
How animals as leaders of you lol
Very good tutorial
I wanna see Ben make drum n bass because it’s so hard to mix with all the moving parts
wow i love the sonnnngggggg
and the way u sing is very beautiful
this just awesome! sounds like somethin' from Ohneotrix Point Never, like "The Station", but with an even more relatable edge
Fantastic lyrics. Also, you wouldn’t notice the lack of drums if you’re not paying attention. Ideas well illustrated.
I thought it was a great song and the lack of drums might have made it even more interesting. Loved the clever idea you had of splitting the instrument layers into transient recordings and their sustained electric tones.
Awesome and amazing and awesome and amazing and
I really liked that hybrid miced/plugged in guitar sound! It makes me wonder about wiring up a contact mic somewhere in the body cavity of my guitar. I know that old humbucker guitars had a much more airy, percussive tone to them because the old pickups were microphonic from not being wax potted (or poorly so), so I could see being able to mix in the signal from a contact mic giving a similar effect. I'll have to think on that.
Damm, good song ❤
song !! 💯💯💯
💜
song is an absolute banger. at first the irreverence of your style turned me off but now I'm screaming along *all the advertisers smile!!*
I love you
The guitars sound very A. G. Cook to me (that's awesome)
Music that mixes itself.
Wait till you discover why symphonic orchestra has this very specific standard set of instruments, it's designed for their sound to "mix" and blend in orchestra hall acoustic environment lol
I wonder what analysing these traditional principles is gonna inspire your whacky creativity when you somehow translate that to modern recorded music
Sounds a bit like Dirty Projectors (eg Temecula Sunrise)
This ends up sounding a lot like Dirty Projectors
Do flip tha phase on the mic'd track?
The real trick to a good mix is having magic the gathering dual lands on display
It would be sick if i had any of those haha!
I mean, it helps if you're also a genius like you
I miss you in glasses and a lab coat. But I’ll little for contacts and a rain coat.
!
How old are you?

To me, electric guitar is kind of a bad instrument for providing a pleasing high end sparkle to the mix. Cymbals or aux percussion do this so much better, but that’s beside the point of this video. The only times I end up liking a track that’s just vocals and electric guitars is when the vocal is super lively and completely upfront in all its detail.
"2 instruments and my voice" then its 3 instruments lol
it sounds rly good that I didnt miss percussion or drums
