Fun mission, I just kinda wish they made it where if you’re not right next to Mother Goose to protect it, you fail the mission early as opposed to waiting for time to expire.
20:08 The problem in this is mostly that it's quite vague, Gargoyle intended to destroy the space elevator rather than UAVs, the missile that hit Harling wasn't from Trigger but the jet behind him, but I have no idea if it's one from Gargoyle or it was a UAV on F-18
It would've made more sense if it was explicitly a tactic to exploit the drones' orders to defend the elevator at all costs, thinning out the enemy herd by forcing them to take the hits. That would also explain why they used the little sidewinders instead of something a little more hefty.
The F/A-18 that flies past is a UAV. The original concept was that an F-14D flashing a fake IFF would be the one that shot down Harling. But Kono said that this particular part was removed for the purpose of enhancing the "UAV Fighters" story
It gives me absolute chills everytime when the Arsenal Bird Controller deploys the Arsenal Bird and says "Strategic AI chose Liberty over Justice. Courses have already changed."

Now that I watch this over... Yeah, that was BS. They literally called it on Trigger seconds after Harling was shot down. The whole "Erusea faked IFF" gimmick doesn't make sense when it was a friendly pilot that pinned Trigger. The writters shouldn't have let that line there. Either they reveal the pilot to be a spy instigating division, which wouldn't make sense in the story they delivered elsewhere, or they should have removed it. Kind of a big deal to hinge your game's story over a single event and they half assed that major point. Not only they made Harling's actions unbelievably vague and contradictory, they utterly missed on the delivery of this striking plot twist. I am disapointed in them, silly air battles through tunnels are one thing, messing up with the protagonist's whole reason of being is on a completely different scale on a game based on this hero's journey.
In my playthrough I shot the plane behind harling and I was in such a position it looked like either I shot the plane behind harling and the explotion cause the helicopter to explode or harling got caught between me and the plane next to him so I was confuse cause I didn't know if it was my fault or not.
They tried to destroy the Space Elevator and Harling decided to fly towards it to protect it so Pilgrim 1, the space shuttle at the end of the game, has a place to land. The UAV F-18 (Erusean but with an Osean IFF to appear friendly) fired the missile that shot down Harling while you simultaneously fired the missile that downed the drone on his tail. Bam. Framed.
The best explanation is that the UAV spoofed the Osean IFF, which didn't explictly designate itself as a specific pilot. So when the drone dipped out, the only thing the other pilots saw was Trigger.
Why does Trigger always get into trouble, even though Mage 1, or someone else does? Is it like in an arranged story? This confuses me. What if Mage 1, or others who are very close to Mother Goose One? Will Trigger have the same problem?
