I originally watched Alex explain everything in the old fitment videos an he recommended bc racing coils and 2 years later I’m in love with them. Especially after I got to engine swap my car the quality still shows!
I've dealt with bargin bin to cheap coilovers for a long LONG time on multiple cars. And most of those cars weren't even mine. Just people that have suspension issues and/or wanted to upgrade a bushing or replace the springs to something stiffer. Of course, you know how Wisconsin winter is and they will corrode the hell out of all these cheaper coilover systems. It's why for my current car, I went with KW V3s. Even when I replaced the springs on them, the bottom spring perch still managed to loosen up and spin freely without much of any corrosion issues. Now, I tell people to just spend the money instead of wasting so much money on the cheaper stuff because the cheaper stuff will be disappointing.
Kw,Ohlins,Jrz all blow those out the water, do it right the first time lesson learned, if you dont have the money for any of those then just get Bilstein/koni shocks and eibach lowering springs
I have koni with eibach springs stiffer an inch drop on my tl bought new top mounts for all 4 so all in was about $1000 and they are rebuildable not mad about my choice
what is yalls take on Ceika suspension? So far from what ive seen they are comparable to other brands in the $1000 range but they offer some customization that others dont offer and they can cater your suspension to your car and what your trying to do with it like a daily driver you like to do some cutting with in Mexico or a drift car...
Does Gels still recommend the Tein Street Advance Z? Its the only reputable brand coilover that I know of under 1k and even at that price point I’m really stretching my budget. *Edit: Flex Z not street advance
Flex z are awesome. I have them on my gc8 sti. Ride like stock on the softest setting, incredibly stiff on the stiffest setting. Great for street and track use.
I concur that the flex z's are good for the price. I have a set on my ek hatch. The shocks are matched to the springs they are paired to. Damping adjustments are definitely noticeable too. They are good for normal every day driving and track days/auto cross. The car doesn't get unsettled with undulations on the road or the rumble strips/berms on the track.
can you take a look at race comp engineering coilovers? I'm considering getting Superstreet 2 but superstreet R coilovers are also interesting for a track build
Needed a budget coilover for drifting my 240sx s13, it was maxspeeding rods (twintube) or JDMspeed (monotube) that are around $250. Got the JDMspeed (monotube, nonadjustable) for shits and giggles, definitely felt it was better than my 15yr old Powertrix (monotube, nonadjustable). The goal is to drift the 240 twice a year on a skid pad and maybe some light driving around the street (100 miles a yr). Rev9 was my other option for $530 that was monotube w/ adjustable.
I’m looking at the HKS coil overs for my subie honestly. They are tight for the track and are comfortable for the daily great middle ground in my opinion.
I’ve had maxpeeding rods on my EF civic for more than a year now. They’re bouncy and the rubber bushing on the top hat is already showing signs of cracking. I guess I can’t complain for less than $300 bucks, but I’d spend the extra cash on some Truharts if I’m going cheap
im from the E.U and i have been wathing some of your advises regardind suspension, great content by the way! so i went to check the prices for the BR series from BC and well let´s just say they way above the 1000 EUROS mark ...actually and just for laughs i went KW to see how much of my skin they would take ...and i was genuinely surprised th V1 series hits the mark they only ask 1036 Euros for it and i get that coveted TUV certification sounds to me like a no brainer...
Funny thing, BC doesn't make coilovers for my platform *kind of* You can use mk1 Volkswagen rears and mk2/3 Volkswagen fronts, but that's buying 2 kits. Only TA Technix, MTS, and KW sell a complete kit
i bought function & form type 2 coilover for my ls430 back when you were at FI, your videos were always super helpful and perfect for people who dont know shit about cars lol🤙🏻
Need some help with my coils.. I have Megan racing II coilovers I've had the car slammed and raised over the years. But this time when I lowered the front, seemed like it maxed on on both sides, but the car doesn't look like it dropped. Any ideas?
Hello guys I recently purchase a 2014 Acura TL FWD tech package so for someone like myself who wants to lower his TL what is the recommendation. I'm looking to go with 19" wheels so I don't care to compromise quality over price because I dont race but I want to care for my car and not end up upset that I spent to much or not spend enough to get the right quality. What is the recommended brand of coilovers I should be looking at. by the way from what I understand I'll want to go with a flush fitment. Thanks in advance guy's
TruHart coilovers on my VA WRX after I ran TruHart damper/springs on my 02 Civic for 2 years. Daily. Adjustment matters. Expensive coilovers won’t trump knowledge.
Always important to dial it in; totally agree. Problem is SO many people exclusively use price to determine a purchase. We know that price matters #1, but there are a few things where we don't think the price is worth the quality. For instance, Truhart is likely locked in for you after maximizing the fine adjustments, whereas a more robust coilover might just have the tolerances built in so you don't need to dial it in (even though you should) Kinda like a Mazda Miata on track vs. a brand new M2. The Miata can chase the M2 down if there's an experienced person behind the wheel in the same way the M2 could run a good lap because the car is just properly good from factory. Hard discussion, but totally agree!
Love my Fortune Autos on my RX8, worth every penny so far, torn on what to do with my E61 as its a daily I dont want to underspend and get garbage but I dont want to overspend as id rather pay for more track days for the RX8 lol Any suggestions?
So I have a 07 g35 sedan and it has TruHart coilovers, would you recommend me to changing to something else if so what brand? I’m willing to spend up to $1,600
Ive noticed that you only focus on shock absorbers and springs. Is there a reason? Theres so much more to suspension than that. Especially if you want an efficient system.
We don't have enough experience to share with the world on this brand but aim to do a build with them to try them out. Stay subscribed and some content will come out shortly!
All those covers are flawed. Real performance coilovers don’t have adjustable bases. You adjust the height with the spring perch collar. Preload isn’t that important. Add some helper springs if the main spring is lose.
Unfortunately, you're correct. They do sacrifice suspension travel within the adjustable base, but when they're the only option, people are forced to use them. I realized that when I bought Silvers... but I did set them up differently than most. The ride is fairly smooth but firm in the turns as desired. The caveat is don't slam it... mild drop.
We plan to cover Silver's in a future video. We've had great experience, and also not great experience which is a weird one. We've tried to figure out why there has been such inconsistency and will be chatting about it in another video!
@@MartiniWorksOfficial Ran them on my BRZ. Ride was pretty good on default spring rate. Much better than my friends g35 on BC's. Could also be difference chassis
Would love for someone reputable to actually address $400-$1000 coilovers. Cot7 Maxpeedingrods, godspeed, Megan, rev9 tier 2, FnF type 1 etc. And if they are all made in the same place at least address that.
We do plan to. We just haven't had much feedback from the brands we've reached out to. Our goal is to ask them first, allow them to provide us the information, and if they don't, then we buy them and test them. I'd say for now subscribe, as we do have plans to do a HUGE review/comparison like this!

great video. sub $1000 coilovers are sketch. sub $500 coilovers you're just asking for back pain. used coilovers almost always are blown. check the top hats for oil leaking. you can rebuild them, but new shocks cost anywhere from $400-600. might as well buy new. took me 3 days to get my ZN6 (BRZ) coilovers for my Scion FR-S from BC. None of those brands are actually considered really good. If you're really serious you will look into brands like Nitron, Tractive Suspension, Intrax, MCS, AST etc.
@MartiniWorksOfficial where do I start? 1. Imported Taiwanese housing, so we have reduced suspension travel. (BC, feal, and Fortune are all guilty for this, they said their coilovers are designed for lowered ride height. But it's just another way of telling us their coilovers have less than OEM suspension travel -> trash) 2. Rebound biased valving, so in order to get good low speed compression for the platforming we sacrificed a lot of rebound. More rebound = jacking down over bumps. 3. Bad customer experience, it took them 3 months to build me a set of fa510. Some people still didn't get their ots coilovers from their 2023 Thanksgiving sales. 4. High nitrogen precharge that will add harshness to the ride quality. It also increases the stiffness to the already existing spring rates Do you want me to continue?
