Thanks for making this! The fine, grain-like pattern is definitely one of the unspoken benefits of a high MP sensor (even considering the lessened low light capability overall).
Hi Matt, great video! I have a question. I am a still shooter and have the A7RV and experienced lots of noise at the high ISO range. I use Topaz Photo AI and DeNoise and still couldn’t remove it. I am curious if the difference has anything to do with the fast glass you are using on this video and your low shutter speed. I was indoors shooting at a zoo with a 70-200 GM f/2.8. I’m curious your thoughts.
I do K9 dog photography with stills and fast moving action "agility track" fast dog action. The only one thing that is holding me back from buying it right today, is I've heard that the rolling shutter is horrific. Can you comment or make a video on that topic? Thank you greatly!!!
@@jinhanja8185 Theroretically it is. Usually with a higher megapixel camera your're going to get more noise (a7r v) I have the a7 iv and don't get near this much noise with it
Very good video... an amateur question: Recording at night with low light, don't you think it would be better to do it in a natural mode, not in a logarithmic mode, like SLOG3 for example. Greetings.
Hi, thanks for your video of Sony A7 RV, I recommend you make video of photo of A7 RV in low light test, compare with A7 RIV, I still worried about high iso of A7 RV when take it in low light?
Nice video. Do you have any plans on reviewing lowlight on the stills side? Even though many video features have been added to this camera it's still not it's strong point. I have the A7RIV and pre-ordered the A7RV (due to the new AF, screen and EVF) but am curious to know if there are any improvements in stills low light noise? It's really funny that most of the reviews are focused on video when this is still a portrait oriented camera.
Thanks! I wish I was more of a photographer but I don't feel like I would be able to do a photo review justice. I think one of the issues is that many UA-camrs are filmmakers by default (kinda have to be to make videos haha) and that skews reviews on here more toward the video side than photo side.
@@Alils350 Yes I did. The white balance is much better due to the new sensor on the front of the camera. I did some side by sides before selling my A7R4 and you could see the difference in color. Nothing that couldn't have been corrected in post but now it looks great right out of the camera. Kind of minor but nice anyway.
My a7r2 could shoot 4k 30p 12800 without noise when using apsc crop mode. 🤔 why all their new camera have built-in auto crop. I thought I found a trick to improve the low light quality. Now they took it away 🥲
I gave the Camera the right to chose automatic for all settings I didn't force. It did a great job by night. People admitted, that they never saw better photos. They were SO good, that a visitor decided to process the raw pics because I had no time for that. It's not me making good pics - there are only people on them, you wouldn't care. Bat THEY do care... Funfact: I photographed those people 40 years ago with a superior camera of THAT time too :-D
Hi Matt, long time no speak, I hope you are doing well. Regarding the A7RV (which I just received yesterday), I am seeing a difference of information regarding dual ISO for this Camera. I trust you implicitly, any idea why articles say the second base ISO is 3200 and not 2500? Clearly in your Video you can see it clean up when you click to 2500, just like I used to have on my A7S iii when it hit 12800. thanks !
Hey Matt, nice Video :-) New York is a pretty bright place at night. Would it be possible for you to do a low light test in the countryside with little to no light? I love your Content so much, your wedding video reviews helped me a ton to understand where i suck 🙂
Hiya, do the 5 resolution settings have any effect on low light performance? I was wondering if lowering the megapixel count would get it any closer to the mighty siii for stills and video? Thanks.
@@whoismatt I own 7r3 and find 40 mgpx more than enough for photography of any kind. Not that 7s3 will make my videos better but I consider growing my Sony fleet.

You show us the ISO difference but, what about the shutter speed???🤔 Or shutter speed doesn't matter in video mode??? 💯 I think ISO 2000 is okay to me because the high lights are under control! 💯 ♥️
I downloaded your fotages. I'm getting error "Can't play because the item's file format isn't supported. Check the store to see if this item is available there." when I try to open any of them on 2 Windows 11 machines with many players (VLC, Movies & TV, Media Player and some others). A couple of years ago on the absolutely new machine I had this kind of error and it was fixed by installing HEVC codec. Now I have that codec. What features of your files do not allow me to play them?
My Sony A7R5 seems to produce high noise regardless of setting. In any setting compared to my DJI Inspire 3 & Sony A1 other full frame cameras Anybody have any idea on why this could be?
I'd love a recommended best quality settings video for this camera and even the a7s2 or a7s3! Best picture profile to use for the camera, best video modes, etc
I downloaded a test footage, throw it in Davinci Resolve 18.1 and the video file behaving like a sound file or something, weird, can't figure out what is happening, no video in media pool, Davinchi see this MP4 file like a sound file or something?
Contrary to what you said, download of this video is not free, it costs my email address info and my time to hassle with all that mandatory subscription.
In reality, your client will never know the difference between any work shot on the A7RV and the A7IV for photo or video PERIOD. Yes, The screen is amazing on the A7RV, but let's be real that should be a standard feature on EVERY sony camera. If you're a serious photographer you wouldn't be watching this video and already own the A1 and are pissed off that you don't have a dope screen that should have been on every camera 4 years ago. For someone like me who shoots mainly video but is a passionate photographer, the A7IV is way better bang for your buck considering Im not wasting 1,500 dollars. I could take a vacation at that point... you get my point.
That is crazy! It's amazing to literally watch all of this unfold. I started shooting on VHS and now we're here.
Me too ! Actually did 8mm and VHS - then went to the "amazing" hi-8 and S-VHS and you know the rest :)

That isn't a very dark scene and you're using a fast lens. It would be great to see how an f2.8 would perform.
Is the A7IV better at lowlight? Would LOVE a comparison! Is the detail loss significant with the binned footage?
