Honestly, Takumi from first stage up to fourth stage looked normal up until fifth stage where everybody looks like overexaggerative Jojo characters that drive cars. I'm half-half with the movie version but definitely First and Second stage Takumi are my personal favorites.
I think stage 1 definitely has some sort of unique charm to itself despite being the oldest. The art style is Amazing as a whole and the way Takumi behaves and thinks is much better in that early part of the anime I think: he is the quiet, careless day dreaming boy who's speed surpasses anyone else's, but even though he has grown attached to racing and cars, his rather calm and careless nature remains as he only relies on his driving skills, not bothering himself with strategies and planning before races: only raw instinct. Idk why I just prefer that Takumi over the others
Honestly I really liked the character designs for the legend films, they're amazingly reminiscent of the original First stage from 1998 while having a bit more depth and modern animation to it. Shame those movies didn't have eurobeat in them, though
Does anyone know if there are full length fan edits of the movie with eurobeat? I’ve only seen clips of some races with the right songs from the original seasons but i have yet to find someone who’s done each movie as a whole
On the evolution of Takumi’s hair So Takumi went from chestnuts colored hair to dark gold hair to dark brown hair to tan hair to red velvet hair to dark brown hair(again) to dark brown hair (again x2) to dark grey? I wonder how much Takumi spend on permanent hair dyes
the only things I like about later stages are that the RX-7 looks fricking cool (rip pop up headlights) and that Itsuki's hair grew and doesn't look like a Kappa/Cappa anymore.
1st stage:The real takumi! 2nd stage:Way too bright! 3rd stage:mmm ok but still not him 4rth stage:same as 3rd stage 5th stage:What is that what have they done! Final stage:Oh gawd Legend 1,2&3:ok this isn't that bad
First Stage: The best Second Stage:Got cheated on Third Stage: Better than second stage at least Fourth Stage: Brainwashed Fifth and Final stage: Zombies with human skin
I loved the art style of the first stage, then the second stage happened and it just felt completely stiff when seeing all the characters talk, but I watched the third stage today and personally it’s my favorite now. I was really missing the goofy expressive characters from 1, but they managed to bring that back and with a higher budget. Everything looked beautiful, the backgrounds, animation, CGI, they made all the characters look like themselves from part 1 (Keisukes hair not included) and I really loved it.
The Dub is Oof. I’ve been watching the Japanese Dub all the time and Takumi’s voice is just perfect!! The only time I watch dub is if the anime has weird stuff in it. Like Kakegurui it was a mess but the Dub kinda was good.
@@EnhancedTrashBin Hmmm. I do admit there are some episodes that I watched had some good voice acting. Btw I do respect your opinion. I just highly prefer sub all the time haha.
I mean, I get people saying that First Stage Takumi is the best, but as the series went on, the characters began to look more like how they looked in the Manga... So it isn't completely a bad thing.
The first stage definitely has the best animation, I'd say it's also has the best plot than the other stages. The only downside of the first stage I think is the 3D animated racing scenes it just looks a little bad (it was just the 90s so its understandable) I've also noticed those hand-drawn scenes (like when Takumi washes the 86) looked really beautiful, I think the wait would of been worth it if the animators put in more time to animate more scenes like that. But it's all just my opinion, I understand some ppl may think I'm not right but idc
A wasted series is the beast that can follow through after season 3. Multiple unique characters, interesting personal lives, eurobeat etc. it was all perfect; until season 3. We didn't hear a total of 20 minutes of eurobeat in the 5.5 season series. Tell Takumi personally why he is so stagnant rather than a creature crushing his opponents; I wish it had gone in a way that would make us wonder. Just like in the movie Fast and the Furious, the first movies were about characters, while the last movies were all about cars and cheap action. It turns out that the most legendary are their first films.
The first stage of Initial D is my favorite because of the 90’s style and the Eurobeat. It was really the one that started the whole thing and it’s been my favorite anime since then.
For me the order goes 1. First stage (Will always have a special place in my heart, but not just that Takumi's personality feels a bit different compared to in Legend) 2. Second stage (Still resembles first stage a bit) 3. Third stage 4. Fourth stage (Takumi begins to look much more different) 5. Legend (perhaps this is how Takumi would have looked in the modern time?) 6. Fifth stage/final stage (I don't even know what happened there) Again all just my opinion! The animation style, the eurobeat, and the clueless sleepy Takumi will forever be my favorite.
first stage is the one i'll always remember in my heart (execpt for mogi). The other one is stage 4, looks the best imo, really wish it was the same during stage 5 but oh well...
In this case pretty much all of them are good, save for fifth and final. Second was a bit iffy, but my definite favorite is 3rd stage. Movement was just so fluid.
I love first stage the most, although the animation is really dated and I wouldn't rewatch it ever again Edit: I rewatched the first stage of initial D, I don't know what I was talking about at first. It's perfect and probably the best stage of initial d ever
1st stage : the animators are goated. 2nd stage : BROOO This takumi is so cool 3rd stage : Still goated smh, takumi sexy as always 4th stage: why...? 5th stage: .... Final stage : ......... Legend 1 : i miss takumi..... Legend 2 : 😓 Legend 3 : omg he is actually getting a bit better
You could’ve included all the games and Arcade Stages. Other than that the differences of him only seem subtle until you’re comparing them directly like this. I’d prefer First Stage, even the crap CGI had a charm to it. Though it’s funny how First Stage didn’t have licensing, so cars had knockoff brands, like Toreno instead of Trueno, or Leivn instead of Levin. Even the sponsor decals were different. And then to top it off they actually had licensing in some shots for a moment, like when Keisuke and Takumi drive off at the start, you can see the sponsors on the FD like “GReddy” and “Endless” for example, and then it goes back to the fake sponsors like “Tokio Special” or “Express”. Or in a shot or two the front of the Trueno actually said “Trueno”.
Honestly I was pretty pissed when they changed the animation style from the first stage lmao the old anime style looks so raw, 1st and 4th stage are the best ones to me

First stage captures the artstyle of the manga so much more than later stages, and that's why I love it
