I used to teach young kids, then older, then adults. In each role it was uncomfortable being with teachers who'd been in one role a long time. Teaching is like acting, you assume a persona to stamp your role and authority in the class. The problem was, unlike acting, we weren't taught how to be ourselves outside the classroom. So teachers of younger children acted in their teaching persona on breaks and even after school. It took years of experience to 'switch off'. I only know that as it was the very experienced teachers who dropped the persona and instantly became adults when talking to other adults in their free time. I remember seeing an interview with Jim Carrey where he said he no longer wanted to act that role. It's like he decided to leave the Truman Show for real.
