Note: Not all Chromebooks have the capability to install Linux using the method in this tutorial. In order to see if you can install Linux on your Chromebook, open the settings and search Linux. If Linux comes up, you can easily install it on your Chromebook.
Follow the steps below to setup Steam on a Chromebook:
1. Open the Chromebook settings and search Linux
2. Select Turn On next to Linux Development Environment.
3. Select Install to install Linux on your Chromebook.
4. While Linux is installing, open the Chrome browser and navigate to store.steampowered.com/about/ and select the icon to the right of Apple to download the Linux version of Steam.
5. Once the file downloads, right click the file and select Install with Linux.
6. Once the details load, select Install.
7. Open Steam. If you get the following error "You are missing the following 32-bit libraries, and Steam may not run: libc.so.6" continue with the next steps.
8. Reboot your Chromebook.
9. Open the terminal on your Chromebook and enter the following commands in order.
- sudo apt update
- sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386
- sudo apt upgrade
- sudo apt-get install --reinstall libgl1-mesa-glx:i386
10. Open Steam on your Chromebook.

I have an error and I was wondering if you could help,
When I open the steam app on my Chromebook, it shows a black screen and I can't interact with anything. Sometimes a Linux thing pops up saying that I need to press return, but when I press enter it says that I need to type in a password, but it won't let me type, so I press enter again and it says that there was an error, then it shows a downloading steam thing, then that closes almost immediately, and it all closes, but the black screen. I followed all of the steps with checking several times that I did it right, and I have restarted my computer twice. What should I do?
Update: I restarted my computer again and now the page exists on the black screen, as in there are some things that I can interact with, but the page is still black no matter what I do or click
Did you get it working yet?
