- In this video, I talk about the 20 most beautiful filaments on the market right now. Brought to you by PCBWay. Register at jle.vi/pcbway and get a $5 welcome bonus!
I don't know about you, but I still remember the days when "beautiful" filament meant a basic silk... or maybe, if you were lucky, a matte filament. But over the last few years, we've become spoiled for choice. Not only do we have sparkling colors, but we have dual silks, triple silks, silk gradients, matte gradients, fast transitions, slow transitions, textured filaments. We even have filaments with trippy iridescent effects.
In this video, we're going to be exploring the MOST beautiful filaments to take YOUR 3D Printing projects from looking "common" to exquisite.
So whether you're printing display pieces, toys, or even functional parts that you just want to be proud of... hold on to your wallets... because this video is going to be an expensive one to watch.

How can I get in contact with you? I think I've emailed months ago but have gotten a reply. 😔
@@calg4920 partnerships@thenextlayer.com
@thenextlayer I just emailed you. Also, I apologize, it wasn't you that I emailed it was another person on UA-cam. But thanks for replying.
Fillamentum has some gorgeous ones: Gold Happens, Wizard's Voodoo, Vertigo Galaxy, Vertigo Jade are all insane 🤩
Dang. I need to try more of those! My contact at Fillamentum left so I need to get back in touch with them.
@@thenextlayer I’ve been leaning heavily into Fillamentum now, despite the slightly higher cost per kg. Their spools are 750g, for me that’s an advantage, more colour diversity in less space, but the quality is exceptional. Give them a try, and if they share some discount codes please let us know ;)
My favorite filament can be any color as long as it's cheap = )
Same, 2kg for the price of one roll of 750g.
Same, most of the time. Though, I've been really partial to grey lately
@@studwhelm Unpopular opinion : For 1kg there is at least 250g who go the " trash " if you are printing mecanical parts even if you are a god in 3d modelling. By " trash " i mean a plastic bag with a note on this hopping someday who can recycle finger in the nose.
Some of my personal favorite colors:
-Flashforge/Voxelab Burnt Titanium PLA
-OVV3D Black/Green Shiny Silk (a transition filament from black to forest green to kale smoothie green, with green metallic glitter)
-Fusion Filaments Carbon Rod Black HTPLA, ABS, ASA, and HTPET (no glitter, no iridescence, no gimmicks of any kind, and yet it looks truly phenomenal)
-Atomic Filament Smoke Blue and Dark Cherry Red CF-PETG (the red was a Maker Box special color and it looks way nicer than the Bambu Lab CF filaments)
-Hello3D/Amolen Firefly Glow-in-the-Dark PLA
-Snolabs Atrovirens Transparent Blue PETG (sadly discontinued after the SnoDryer debacle)
-Elixir Nightshade (get a move on with re-releasing this, please, Printed Solid, even if it means giving up on reformulating Elixir to no longer need powdered colorant)
-3D Best-Q Rosewood PLA
-FilamentPM Pearl Blue (which can be a shiny, pearlescent blue or a more matte purplish blue depending on your print temperature)
-NHH Matcha Green matte PLA
-Fusion Filaments Radiated Fog HTPET (translucent yet smoky, with heavy-duty glitter that can only really be explained by the name they gave it)
-Coex3D Translucent Blood Red PLA
-Proto-Pasta Cloverleaf Metallic HTPLA (a nice forest green but with a hint of gold glitter)
-FilamentPM Froggy Gold PETG
The most underated filament... Elegoo Black PLA. It has phenomenal quality and you can get 4 rolls for 44$.
Flashforge Burnt Titanium looks amazing
So does their Galaxy Black.
Happy that someone else has found the joy of Ziro 3D. They also have a nice range of the galaxy filaments which i've used too many of.
Yeah! They reached out and offered to let me try some, I’d never heard of them before!
Hahaha, that blue taped spool side. 😂👌
Awesome video and The haircut is looking good bro.
Love your content
(And haircut)
Thanks
Thanks mate!
That blue/rose silk stuff.
I use that on my IDEX printer to make it last.
.1mm layer thickness and 15mm/sec yields a mirror finish
You should definitely check out strong hero 3D’s “shadow red” filament! It looks especially beautiful on busts I’ve found really highlighting details with black while the main color is a gorgeous red that can be shiny when printed slowly or more matte when printed quickly! Wonderful stuff! Also it’s a coextrusion pla shell with petg core. They definitely did some witchcraft because normally those two don’t stick together but this one does!
Thanks for the review. I'm colorblind, so they really have to pop for me to like them.
I like Flash Forge ASA (Blue in particular) as well as their sparkle series.
We actually bought some starlight nebula from polymaker as our first fancy looking filament and I personally love it despite having issues printing it at first (nothing to do with the filament just relatively new to the hobby)
the haircut looks great man‼️🙏 love your content🎉
Really nice video. Defiantely going to keep coming back to this video when I'm looking for filaments. Good selection of different effects. Wish their were more ABS or ASA versions of these filaments.
Truth! Make sure you’re subbed. I love doing these types of videos.
A well produced professional video, good job 🎉
Thank you very much!
Hey there! Love your content.
I don't use many glitter or silk filaments but when I have they have been small local companies here in Australia. 1 being DREMC and PhaserFPV. They also sell glow in the dark and UV changing filaments too which are awesome for ghosts and "scary" pieces.
I'm a big fan of iSanmate's wood filaments for projects where I'm trying to imitate wood and their matte rainbow and gradient filaments. Haven't tried that Ziro3d rainbow yet, but I intend to grab some when my current rainbow spool runs out (so probably pretty soon).
sorry to be a pain, but your link for the esun magenta-blue doesn't seem to work, having trouble figuring out which of their filaments is the right one.... want to use your affiliate link
Thanks for the video. I have yet to try Filamentum filament. I'll have to give it a try.
CookieCad makes some really impressive iridescent filament that prints really well.
Oh true didn’t even think of them. Need to try them out.
@@thenextlayer Thanks Man LOL, I just blew $60 on a couple rolls of Protopasta, not in your video but they have some really nice looking sparkle filament. I bought their Wonder Blue Glitter HT PLA and a spool of Stardust Glitter HT PLA. The cost is mostly inconsequential, the fun is in the experimentation. 😁
Protopaste HTPLA+ comes in excellent colors and texturing. Worth a support.
Great video and happy to say i have most of those filaments you listed. Another absolutely filament that i would recommend a look at would be AMBROSIA ASA Galactic Filament of the Gods Galactic Midnight Meteorite or another of the ASA Galactic colors. Another interesting filament would be Stronghero3d Shadow Golden Fire,Core Shell co extrude (it is PLA with a PETG core) makes for some interesting effects. One last filament to check out would be ProtoPasta Blood of My Enemies.
I have stopped buying filaments that I like as I have far too many, I now only buy the filaments I need!
3DQF regal black is great, black with subtle gold glitter
Bambu ABS GF is one of my new filaments, stronger than ABS and less warping/micro cracking and the glass gives it a mat finish. Especially at 30 for 1KG. Below is from their site
Bambu ABS-GF is a glass fiber-reinforced ABS filament, enhanced in both mechanical and aesthetic properties. Compared with regular ABS, ABS-GF outperforms in strength, stiffness, temperature resistance and dimensional stability, while being less prone to deformation and warping. Glass fiber imparts a smooth matte finish with micro-spot gloss, blurring layer lines. ABS-GF is ideal for both mechanical parts and decorations due to the inherited water resistance, wear resistance, durability and vibrant colors.
Overture Rock (Marble) PLA is one of my favourites.
I really wanna start this hobby but my concern is venting. I have a small home office so I’ll be looking for a small 3-D printer just to get started and I am concerned about the fumes and dust. I always thought that you could print with PLA and not need to vent your machine, but I keep reading online. That’s not the case and you should vent every 3-D printer, please let me know your thoughts😊
Elegoo makes a nice filament that looks a lot like the Wizard's Voodoo. It is confusingly named "Galaxy Black'".
Big fan of the Starlight series also. Comet was the perfect color for a dragon's egg I made as a gift recently.
Both my wife and I LOVE Fillamentum's voodoo filament. It is so beautiful.
FYI, with it being out of stock currently, it looks pretty much identical to what other filament manufacturers call 'burnt titanium'
I really love #Nobufil filament - many basic colors, great strength and easy to print.
Numaker's Nuclear Red. it's a bright red with a little bit of shine and a slight blue iridescent quality
Current favorites are Ziro3D Neon Matte PLA and Bambulabs PETF-CF in black. The Ziro3D just looks fantastic and the PETG-CF comes out so nice people think its injected molded at first glance.
They have a NEON too?!?! Gotta try that
Do any modifications need to be made to printers before attempting to print any of these filaments? A hardened steel nozzle, for example?
Only for the PLACF. The rest no need for special nozzle.
@@thenextlayer Awesome, thanks for your reply! :)
Have you test any flexible filament like TPU but they don't suffer hydrolysis over time in humid environment? From what I've known, TPU and PU will fall apart overtime by hydrolysis if left in humid area.
Bingo. They all do.
Burnt Titanium is one of my favorite colors. Flash Forge and a couple of other companies make it and it is not expensive. PLA prints out the best I do have it in PETG but it doesn't print out as nice as PLA
Much better title for the video. It made me click on it where as the one before didn't intrigue me
We are testing about 10!
Wow 😮 polymaker Galaxy black is expensive, but ordered it anyways today and arriving this pm and trying it out this pm … let’s see if the layer lines are visible
Nice. You’re going to love it!!
Elegoo Galaxy Black is one of my favorite beautiful filaments, although it's dark blue, not black
I'm pretty sure black HIPS would be your favourite filament, you might get addicted.
Gotta check it out. I have heard that hips don’t lie.
Do the "sparkles" effect the nozzle?
Nope.
CookieCAD is another producer of great matte color change filaments, color palette looks similar to SliceWorks. CookieCAD's Galaxy Black is really good too.
not a beautiful filament, but by far the best PLA that I have used Elegoo pla Pro it’s a little challenging to print the first time, but it gives me fantastic results and it is dirt cheap smoother, stronger, and more resilient than all other PLA+
You cut your hair 😮 Thank you for sharing everything you do!
So many filaments seem like they're made in the same factory but them branded later...like the Sliceworx matte gradients are the exact same as Isanmate...
The Ambrosia PC-ABS black is AMAZING if you haven't played with it yet! And it's cheap!
What about Marble Pla to hide the layer lines ?
Another great video. btw This looks familiar 0:13 and 5:05
Stronghero 3D makes Wizard Vodoo PLA and PETG that is a blue/purple sparkling color shift. It's beautiful.
Nice I’m gonna check it out thanks. Never tried their filament.
I'm trying to find a filament company that I can purchase multiple shades of certain colors. What company would you recommend?
Polymaker
Hey, I also live in Israel and I often find that companies don't ship here... how do you manage to get them all here?
Most of them ship directly to me so I can try it and show it in my videos if I like it… but Amazon also ships a ton of filaments free here and I often buy there
Also you should have mentioned some exotic filled PLAs, like Francofil Coffee or Scallop, those make stuff look (and smell :)) not-printed and actually different, or compare wood-filled filaments to PLA-CF because PLA-CF is cheaper, stronger and doesn't clog nearly as much as wood, yet looks very similiar... if only it came in brown. But the green one is extremely similiar to colorFabb Vibers/stoneFill (it's same stuff with different colouring).
Haven’t tried francofil but maybe I can try it and do another video. Thanks!
@@thenextlayer beware of their Oyster filament, not only does it clog but my cat likes crunching on it :) (it does smell fishy)
Yo, nice haircut dude!
For texture, I usually use fuzzy skin at a 0.4 to 0.6 on both settings in Prusa slicer. The only part that isn't textured at that point is the top. Rather than paying the CF "tax". I've tried PLA+ CF, and PETG-CF recently, and I haven't found them lacking, but at their price tag compared to a regular filament for an additive that really doesn't do much, I have to say it's not all that impressive.
Smart!
Is is possible to order Bambu-lab refill filament to Israel?
3DBotX might have some in stock
@@thenextlayer Yeah, Love them! have ordered from them spare parts for p1s the other week as they are the only ones who actually care these stuff and have them in stock..
It would be great if you get sponsorship form caliber3d, seeing that you also like PoyTerra Matte, and get sponsorship discount, I'd be more than happy to use it :P wink wink
Thank you for your quick reply
just steal some
Have you printed anything with PolyLite Metallic ABS?
No! I didn’t even know they had metallic ABS… that’s awesome!
@@thenextlayer Right now only two colors, and I have yet to use them. Also, if you like the purple/pink/blue blends, there are companies that make a filament color labeled as burnt titanium I think you'd like.
Ok so elegoo seems to be selling the same first filaement under the name galaxy black on their site
nice hair cut haha ;)
Ohhh that looks like my V-Spooler in the video! Hope you like it! :)
Stay tuned, I’m doing a video about it next week!
@@thenextlayer exciting, looking forward to it!
I dig the Hair cut, But im Bald, sooo. Great edit. Great info, as always. Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
you should cover the new diy edm machine by rack robotics
I’ve used paramount 3D and honestly the colors are top tier and it I believe it is pla+ but just says pla.
Thanks I’ll check it out!!
You should definitely Printe-me Ampere PLA/TPU that conducts electricity.
Where's the wood filaments? I'm curious as to how many variation exist
You totally forgot Proto-Pasta's Empire Strikes Black!!! No mention of Proto-Pasta at all... Kinda makes me sad. You should really check them out, great stuff!
I don’t think they ship to Israel, do they…? I’ve looked before but ended up not ordering, I think that’s why
@@thenextlayer Makes total sense.
REVIEW Glow filaments !!
nice hair cut
Surprised I haven't seen anyone mention CookieCAD. I love their Elixir PLA line
Haven’t gotten my hands on their filament, I don’t think they ship to Israel… but I’ll reach out!
Truely jaw-dropping filament.....have been watching the video 5 times still cannot understand which to choose and which not to😂😂😂😂😂
Glad you liked it. If I had to pick my favorites from within this list, Polymaker galaxy black, starlight comet, and fillamentum wizards voodoo.
Sliceworks CAN YOU SAY out of stock! is this even made in US? sent email no answer, tried to chat, no answer, called went to voicemail. Please stop promoting places that do not want customers...
inland PLA Blue Black Shimmer
CC3D Antique Silk Gold
Never even heard of CC3D gotta check them out
this maby just me but what is up with the to put it nicely not so nice looking prints i mean i love the show en tell of the filaments but the prints look like ,,,,,,, and i know from looking at your other videos that you can print beautifull prints but this just makes me wonder and not wanne buy these, is it the filament that looks nice and prints like doegie or are these just cranked out for referance
Can't believe this video did not include Protopasta - worth including for their HTPLA range and also for their matte fiber composite range. They also often have a bunch of recycled PLA pastel type colors available for limited runs. Not to mention their metal composite filaments! Their prices are a drawback for prototyping but for immaculate final parts they're among the best.
Edit: I do make this comment from the US market, I have no idea what Protopasta's availability is anywhere else 😕
Yeah I don’t think they ship to Israel but I’ll check
@@thenextlayer Or if they do I shudder to think of the cost 😕 Until Filamentum had their US shop I just could not justify buying their stuff for the same reason. But I didn't think of market limitations when originally commenting
Fancy Pants but more in the wallet. Jayo. Super simple reason. It's descent, they give you 1.1KG, and they're cheap.
How abrasive are those carbon fiber filaments? Do they require a hardened nozzle?
Very and yes
What I don't understand is how you payback the loan without selling anything if you don't have an income stream.
I get the borrowing advantages
2:41 that bench is filthy.. if you gave it 5 seconds of cleaning it would look presentable on camera :)
Great video, love from Slovenia! עם ישראל חי
Hello :)
5:57 I guess this is a hot take or something, but I really don't mind layer lines, and I don't know why people always make such a big deal about them 🤷🏿♀️ I honestly think the messy looking faces look worse..
Your CF prints are weird. Mine don't have that texture, they just look matte, but exactly the same as a normal pla part.
I would use a lot more PolyMaker filament if they used plastic instead of cardboard spools. I'm strictly an AMS user.
You can pop off the sides and put them on Bambu spools, or print rims for them :)
@@thenextlayer I tried all the things when I started 3D printing. Adapters didn't work, taping up the edges didn't work. I think I may have had issues getting the Bambu spool ends back together once tension is let off the cardboard spool but I'll try again since I still have some leftover cardboard spool filament laying around. I tend to stick to plastic pools when ordering new filament. Though I do wish more filament makers would offer refill spools that go directly onto old spools.
CookieCAD, any gradient.
Ask Joel.
Yas print daddy
...haircut! 😱
Love to see that my feedback about the filament tags was incorporated 😊
And תתחדש on the haircut!
Don't be sleepin on thos glow in the dark filiments 😴😴
So sparkles... or none.
Was there supposed to be any innuendos or were they cut out? If this is your 'full of innuendos' then we need to start analyzing your scripts
lol wait till next week bruh
Silk PLA is not weaker than regular PLA, it is softer but has a higher impact resistance and higher layer adhesion.
PLA-CF* < PLA Matt < PLA < Silk PLA. Extremely silky PLA is almost like PETG (including the poor overhang performance).
And that dual tone Sovol/eSUN filament is probably the same as sold under Creality and other brand names, I printed a lot with this particular filament and only realised I swapped brands after printing tens of piece with both - there's absolutely no difference, I believe even the part number is the same if you look at the spool.
* or other PLA with fillers that (usually) make it stiffer but weaker across layers
In my experience silk PLA has TERRRRIBLE layer adhesion, actually.
@@thenextlayer weird, I would question your print setting were it any other channel :) I usually print it really slow, though, like 30-60mm @220C (but with steel nozzle that's more like 210 on brass).
I believe silks are even described as I did by the manufacturers. It's also possible there are completely different additives used for silks to achieve the high surface tension, for example some are close to impossible to remove from a textured pei plate (most of what I use) and I have to create a separation layer. Just finished scraping some of my plate 5 minutes ago :) I commonly use it in place of petg for gears and stuff (as long as it's not under load). Are you sure you mean layer adhesion? Because they are pretty weak for mechanical stuff, gears under load just melt and bend but the layers hold fine.
Nah, dude, layer adhesion of silk is considered to be the worst of all the PLA's.
Really weird that you are trying to introduce people to new filaments and don't mention at all that at least half of the filaments that you mention should be run with a hardened nozzle of some form.
I guarantee someone is going to run one of the CFs on a stock brass nozzle and wonder why their printer started printing like shit
honestly I hate shiny filament, it looks really cheap. I prefer Matte.
