They can’t when their job is on the line. There’s a reason most of these teams are picking in these top 5 spots. Then they have do extra to convince their team owners if/when it does fail that it wasn’t their fault.

💯💯 It’s so insane how out of control the JJ hype has gotten. Dude was so average in college. He looked terrible in half their games. Even against bad teams like Maryland he looked terrible. And he was playing on the best team in the country. Can’t process, isn’t accurate, struggles to throw to the left side of field. So many issues

They had elite transcendent arm talent and other raw traits that if developed, could become elite talents. No quarterback outside of Williams really possesses either.

I love how everyone acts like they know how these players will turn out. So many factors play crucial roles for the success of a QB.
I like JJ and in the right situation he could be great and that’s the thing with ALL QBs.
Where you go and what’s around you especially while starting out matters.
Top 2 QBs are perfect example of that. It’s not a shocker CJ talents was able shine with the players and coaching around him.
While Young struggled with dam near nothing on offense for him.
All those stats are cool with 2/3 of the season being against GARBAGE... I'd like to know, what he was against good teams. Numbers are simply numbers if you dont put them into proper context. 👍

Quarterbacks always get hyped up and then they usually disappoint and end up being backups or gone from the league. Tom Brady, Brock Purdy, Russell Wilson, and Kirk Cousins were all drafted after or during the third round. Maybe those GM's should start taking the best player at other needed positions instead they choose the flashy pick that usually gets them fired.

Of all the QB's being talked about in this draft, maybe one will end up being a success with the team that drafts them. They are so over drafted, teams are better off trading down and taking a QB in the second to 7th rounds. Remember when Trevor Lawrence was another can't miss "generational talent" how's that working out? Along with the other QB's taken that year in the first round, Zach Wilson, Trey Lance, Justin Fields and Mac Jones. Common sense in sports isn't very common anymore. Good luck.
Mad dog, it’s not about if JJ is a top 5 player in the draft. That’s not how the NFL draft works. Qb is a highly valued position for obvious reasons, and that’s why QBs are taken higher than they “should” be. If we are only selecting players bc BPA, then there would be only one qb in the top 5. It’s about who will go after him and how early he will go

JJ has a a better passer efficiency rating, fewer INTs per game, higher yards/attempt than Maye. He can run a 4.5 40 and he can throw the ball 61mph. He is also younger than Maye. I really don't get downgrading JJ because he went 27-1 and never even played a down over age 20. Michigan is not a dynasty. They just won their first title in 26 years.

Jim Harbaugh believes JJ is the best QB in this draft. Jim Harbaugh believes that Justin Herbert is a franchise QB. Both of those things can be true.
Also...Trading Herbert is a practical impossibility because of the dead cap hit. You have to weave in and then unwind signing bonuses.
I know what the injuries were but I think Michael Penix would be the QB to take for the Vikings with the 23rd pick not a high top 5.
I'd rather take Penix and risk him sitting a year to fix any doubt in his game (I'd love to see what O'Connell can do with him in the background) then take a guy like McCarthy. McCarthy is a classic case of a riser in my opinion. A team in that top 10 not looking for a QB begging a team overdrafts him so they can get a quality player at another spot.
It doesn't matter whether McCarthy is truly a top 5 pick or not. Its about supply and demand. If you have a bunch of teams desperate for a QB. Vikings/Raiders/Broncos and maybe Seahawks/Giants or ???? then JJ McCarthey could be picked in the top 5. What are those teams going to do at QB if they don't draft a QB? A lot of teams are going to want JJ cuz the top 3 picks are going QB. So its Penix or McCarthy.
