    Thx for the video. I replaced my battery in 30 mins. DX7 now works perfect 😎. Voltage 3.1 V

    Thank you, now I have the confidence to stick that new bad boy in there. I noticed you used and engraver pen to undo the old solder joints. Was this so you wouldn't use to much heat?

    Is the Corrupt RAM a result of the battery issue (and something that can be prevented in some way) or a separate and independent issue?

  • @jsprite123

    Hi, wouldn't it be easier to solder a battery holder instead?

    • @Synthchaser
      @Synthchaser  7 років тому +4

      You mean easier for future maintenance? Probably, but it all depends what you want to do. It would be even easier to install magnetic FRAM and never change a battery again. Regardless this video shows how to get to the battery and change it. What you change it to is your choice. :)

      Can you show how you would install FRAM in a synth? Please.

      I'm glad someone soldered a battery holder in the DX-7II FD I bought. It took about five minutes to replace it, then a much longer time to restore all the presets that were gone.

      @@scottlarson1548 Yeah I added battery holder to my DX7 as well. No more unnessesary work with disassembly and soldering in future.

    OOOOOO, the Grey Matter Response E! board! Heard that it turned the DX-7 into a real powerhouse, with increased memory, mod routings, etc.

    • @atpdx
      @atpdx 3 роки тому +1

      It's the only way to Dx7 in my opinion.
      8 preset banks worth of E! patches that are stored in nvram and cannot be erased combined with 10 user preset banks compared to one bank and a cartridge bank if you have a cart is enough reason to go E! card. Not to mention the midi improvements - it's insane.

    it's same solder crap on TX 802 and TG77. why they didn't use 5 cent battery holder is beyond me.typical battery holders do not fit tx802 the pin spacing is different. the holes on board are 5/8 inch apart while all battery holder the pins are 3/4 inch.

    Is there any info of the "Ram corrupted" message? Replaced the battery, everything seems good except that message came on and when I turn on and off, Grey Matter screen popped up, but no sound. I did do a SySex dump w original patches, everything transferred good but again no sound. And original sound you had with the message was working but now not working when greymatter on. Probably something simple?

  • @mickenord1261
    @mickenord1261 7 років тому

    I've recapped the PSU in my Dx7, and thinking of recapping the main board. Do I need audio grade caps for that (since it's a digital synth)? Any caps on the analog outputs?

    • @Synthchaser
      @Synthchaser  7 років тому

      You'd need to look at the schematic and see how each capacitor is being used. If it's used for an audio signal, you'll want to use audio grade caps.

    • @mickenord1261
      @mickenord1261 7 років тому

      Thanks. I know there are also low leakage caps available. Should I use these for non-audio caps or is it waste of money?

    • @Synthchaser
      @Synthchaser  7 років тому +1

      It totally depends on the circuit. The circuit's usage of the capacitor will dictate which properties would be important for the capacitor. For a S&H capacitor, low leakage is important. But that would all be digital on the DX-7.

    Anyone knows where I can buy that cr2032 for DX7 in Canada?
    Nobody wants to ship it to Canada. I have checked a number of websites including Ebay.
    Even Mouser in Canada doesn't ship it in Canada because it is lithium battery.

    • @Synthchaser
      @Synthchaser  6 років тому +1

      Look on eBay or similar for "CR2032 battery holder", then you can solder the battery holder in and use a plain old CR2032 from a local store.

    • @Handcraftedrock

      Tomorrow, I will visit Radioshack just in case. If not, will order from Amazon.ca
      I actually liked idea of holder.

    Have you ever replaced the aftertouch felt on a DX7? Mine is very torn up. I've been searching for a while and can't find replacement parts anywhere. If replacement is possible this could be a great item for sale on your website.

    Hey buddy, nice video! I've got to change mine that has all of Bo Tomlyn's sounds he programmed for Michael Jackson in it. When you pull the battery did you lose the internal RAM? I still have my Commodore 64 Computer with 10,000 sounds, I never converted all the sounds to MacBook. ua-cam.com/video/-m29nyMpRxk/v-deo.html lol. not sure how to store them before I would pull it. I got 4 ram cartridges and thinking of selling it with custom case for $750 , it has the "Special Edition" board with LED. thoughts?
