Idea: A frugal lifestyle choice is not the same as poor. Simple is wealthy. Wise is wealthy. God and faith focused is healthy and rich. Being well off is a matter of knowing what is important. I think your family is one of the healthiest and most wealthy I have had the pleasure of “knowing”. God bless!

I've never thought you were poor. And quite honestly I've never thought to consider your financial situation. You all are great.
We are all poor during this inflation. We just keep going and do our best. We have a roof overhead, shoes on our feet, and clothes to wear. We are blessed.
Life is not about money. Yes, we need to pay our bills, however, we do not need the expensive phones, all the cable channels, etc. I lived in Missouri for 21 years and know the area you live in, it is a wonderful place to raise children. I have now moved to North Dakota to be with my family. My grandkids LOVE to play outside in the dirt, and with my dogs, a simple life, they do not need to be entertained all the time. I am like you all.. older car, no payments, only the necessary. I am content and at peace. You are a wonderful family, your children are loved and well taken care of. I raised 5 children and was on a very strict budget. You, Shawn and the children are blessed with your life. Peace be with you.

Exactly.... you don't owe any of us an explanation. Nor should any of us expect one. If you can't see the extent this family goes to, to save and spend their money wisely, then you are a lost cause.
I always freeze berries, peppers, and onions if I don’t use them before they go bad. Great for cooking, smoothies and baking. I also make mashed potatoes before my potatoes go bad. They freeze well in freezer bags and provide a quick side dish. Like I said before, leftover cooked chicken and beef can be frozen for casseroles and pot pies. I try not to waste anything. It doesn’t matter how much money we make, we all need to be good stewards of our treasures.
You can freeze pepperoni. It freezes really well. I would have bought them all. You do such an amazing job budgeting.

I am beyond impressed with the meals served. That person that made the comment might not be aware you raise meat birds, hunt, produce your own dairy products, and have access to fresh farm eggs.
Choosing to live within your means does not mean one is poor, just wise. You have a better quality of food than others that spend way more. Homegrown and fresh foods are your staples.
You also have a better quality of life by choosing a simpler life style than others.
My husband and I choose to live debt free. Others may see us as poor but we do not. I work hard to keep our budget tight so we can save for retirement and such. There is so much freedom in a simpler life. A life that values things that are not materialistic.

I buy so much meat on sale and portion it and freeze it. Even if I find it in ‘poo corner’ (reduced for ‘sell by, use by date’, I mark it as such). We are only a family of five but my husband and I play full contact rugby and have to keep up our muscle mass so cannot cut out the protein. Sale meat and veggies and beans are cheaper than protein powder.
Oh my days people are nuts let me tell you something I think I'm poor you guys have a home a homestead you have a jobs and oh my goodness there is nothing poor about you You're frugal if somebody finds frugal as poor they're just not very you know with it or maybe ignorant

I have never looked at your videos and thought you lived in poverty. I have always felt you are rich in all areas that are truly important. You have a beautiful children who are so loving, well behaved and a a true joy to your life and your viewers. Not eating expensive processed foods does not make you poor it makes you rich in health and Mrs. Smiths apple pie can’t hold a candle to Sarah’s I am sure. Everyone drives a used car even if they buy it new and have a huge payment every month because once you drive it off the lot it’s used period. It’s more important you drive a dependable vehicle than a flashy status symbol. Your lifestyle brings you such joy and allows you to spend your time with your family and your children are learning so many important skills and are truly learning coping and thinking skills. They are independent thinkers with problem solving skills and creativity that other children no longer have. Clothes are the same as cars why pay full price for status when you can pay a fraction for nice functional attire that is clean, well kept, and lasts long enough you get your moneys worth from it. I imagine people who think you are poor are working themselves to death and missing out on their families to make another dollar to spend and then buying expensive convenience items because they do not have time to cook from scratch. Your treasure is in heaven and you are pouring your time, money, and energy into those things you can take with you to heaven, your family. No one is going to show up at the gates of heaven with a uhaul dragging their earthly possessions with them but you can teach your children and be in heaven together so your circle is unbroken. Priorities are different in each family and they each make a choice about what makes them feel good about their life. But why gain the world and lose your own soul. No when I watch your family I see riches beyond compare and blessings poured out that your cup can not contain. I think it is why your viewers want to bless your family with gifts and treats. I don’t think you are lacking I send the occasional gift just because I love your family they bring me so much joy and make me happy. Money is not the root of happiness, relationships are. Be joyous and be blessed your family is amazing.

It’s rare that we go into Walmart but we did this past Monday and we were near the eggs and I asked my hubby how much are the eggs 🥚 and he said they are way cheaper at Costco he has been paying attention to prices 👍 and there organic milk was also more expensive $$ it’s cheaper at target 😮 we did buy a couple of things what I really needed was TEXAS TOAST but nobody has it , Walmart is not cheaper…. WHO SAYS THAT ? ARE YOU POOR ! Who raised this person ?? THEY FAILED teaching common decency
Quick addendum: You and your family are in no way poor as you have all the treasures you’ll get in Heaven right now: Grace, Faith, Hope, Charity, Love of God, etc., unlike the Hollyweird crowd in general who promote a lifestyle to compete with each other, bigger houses, lavish vacations, confused and troubled children, kids unable to thrive after leaving home, turning to drugs….none of their, “treasure’s” will help them in Heaven, more than likely they’re on their way down the slippery slope to Hades. 🔥🔥🥵🥵still, we are called to pray for all. Thankyou Janice I wish so many more would watch and learn from your videos. We have just replaced our 2009 Captiva (that was written off, no one hurt) with a 2010 Captiva for $4800, it had low mileage and is a 7seater diesel, I'm so thrilled with it. We grow most of our veg and fruit and buy specials on groceries and meat, mostly thrifted clothing and are very comfortable living on a pension.

I don't think that you are poor, but in one aspect: Health insurance. I know you have this christian health insurance, but in my opinion the children need real health insurance. They could get a chronical ilness. I know health insurance is expensive, but please make it work somehow.

That is so rude for someone to ask that... That amount of $$$ is reasonable per person... So lets say you spent 20.00 to make a dinner..\\that is 2.22 pp for a dinner...You could get a nice dinner made for 20.00 You always seem to have good meals everyday... No one is starving by any means...and when you do your what you eat for a week video's.. You have very filling meals... You also have alot of property, and that is something to be very proud of... Not one of your kids looks like they are unhappy, ever... They have a wonderful life... Just my thoughts

I've never had a car newer than 10 years old, my $79 phone works better than my sister's $800 phone, I have free antenna tv, rarely eat out. People I had worked with are amazed I own a house on the small income I have. I furnished my entire house under $1500, going to auctions, flea markets, free items people put on the curb.
Hi Janice I really like your videos!! I'm from KCMO and didn't even know we had Kroger's in this state. I know you don't like Walmart, but do you ever look at their sale prices to see if there's any savings, since you said you compare the sales to their regular prices? Also, have you ever thought about doing Walmart pick up so you don't have to go in? I don't like going in either, but I like the pickup, especially since you can pick substitutes if they don't have what you want.
I got strawberries at Publix for 99 cents this week! We shop Publix a lot but purchase a lot of the bogo deals there. I do watch the digital coupons at the stores. . We do have Kroger, Aldi, Walmart , Sam’s, BJ’s and other stores close by.
WOW, that's a lot of savings! I am always amazed at how much you save! The people asking if you are poor are the same people who can't get by on much more money than your family lives on because they squander their money! Your groceries are chocked full of fruits and vegetables and mostly non processed foods and most of your meals are homecooked from scratch. Your family eats better than 75% of american households. The people asking if you are poor could learn a lot from you!!! I grew up poor and we never had all those fruits and vegetables and all the meat you serve your family everyday. My mother used to buy a gallon of milk, split it in two and use powdered milk to make 2 gallons of milk. If my mother brought home a package of cookies, It Was A Big Day for us!! I think you are wealthier than most, you know the value of a dollar, you are mostly debt free, you eat well and most of all you have a great family! What more can you ask for?!!

For me any produce that is the same match price as Kroger and Walmart I will always buy it the Kroger for me which is Ralph's but I don't like Walmart's quality of their fruits and vegetables that they just I don't know I'm in California they're just not the best
I don't understand why anyone would have the nerve to ask if you're poor. You don't look poor to me. Your kids look well fed and taken care of. That's what's most important. I guess that some people have nothing better to do than judge others. By the way Janice, you DON'T owe them an explanation.
When a child at school told my son he was poor, he came home and told me. I told him we were rich because when a house has a lot of love in it, you were rich. He told my dad that they were rich, my dad says, I wouldn’t say that. He said, yesterday grampa, of you have a lot of love on a house you were rich!
I never thought you and your family were poor. I always just thought you and the family had priorities to achieve your goals on a single income. Which I respect. There is nothing wrong with not wasting money on a fancy vehicle, I don't. I choose to invest the money into my property. I was always taught to get ahead. You must make scarfice. Obviously, I don't have all of those beautiful children, but the principle still applies. People who waste money without a second thought are only getting into debt, not ahead. Keep doing what you are doing. It's the best way to achieve. Your children will do the same, as I was raised similarly and I do the same. I'm across the other side of the world in Australia.
You are not poor. You have family willing to work for garden and preserving, animal care to have food, plus you're watching prices makes you smart.
Your family isn't poor - in what - poor in spirit? No. Poor in terms of money? No. You have chosen to spend whatever you have in ways that benefit your family. Do you sometimes do without - not necessarily - you choose to substitute what you consider "more wholesome" than what others might choose. Poor in terms of what you and the family eats? Absolutely not. You are able to "source" the raw ingredients (most of them are), and make delicious, satisfying meals. And you will never be poor with all that love that's in your family.

Publix which is a grocery chain the south had blackberries for 99 cents. I bought 15 of them as there was no limit. I put a bunch in the freezer for smoothies and I made freezer jam.

Good video, Janice! Good explanation too. We all have things that we prefer to put more money toward and things that aren't as important to us. We're like you guys on the vehicles. I could care less what it looks like as long as it's clean and runs, gets me from point A to point B. Clothing and household knick knacks are another thing I have very little interest in. Just more to dust. Our main priority is our house and land, keeping them maintained. They're paid for, but still have to maintain them. And our animals. I won't have an animal unless I can afford it's vet care, yearly vaccinations, food, flea and tick meds, etc. Thanks for another great video! Cheri
So really what people who might want to call you poor are noticing is your minimal convenience items. You buy whole packs of chips instead of individually packed for home use. You buy larger packs of dried fruit and split them on trips instead of spending insane amounts at a convenience store. This is smart not poor! I pity those who think spending at least twice as much on chips makes them rich just because it cuts out the pre planning. Kids are 100% fine with already having cheaper items and fruit available. Also I overheard a man arguing with his children about how much the items that they wanted at the circle k cost as they were leaving the store. It wasn’t the kids fault that he stopped at the wrong store! Dollar tree is next door! Imagine how much he would have saved if each kid got two things there. That’s just good stewardship!

Your family is rich in love you don't have things just for the sake of saying you have things just to show things off. Your family just oozes love and respect for each other. You have plenty of what you need regarding food clothing shelter. My husband and I are considered poor according to the world's standards but we can have plenty to eat drink we have a roof over our head we have a nice apartment and we have love and a wonderful family and to me that makes me Rich as it makes you guys rich. Will you do choose to have an older Xbox and a very very extensive movie collection and we choose to spend our money on streaming services which provides us with plenty of entertainment since I am mostly homebound now we just love watching your channel as it provides us with lots of recipes and entertainment from watching your Littles my daughter's 22 now so I don't get all the entertainment of the littles which bring me great great joy and entertainment and smiles all your daughters are beautiful but little Rebecca is a gorgeous little girl. Also I've never seen any of your children drive I was just wondering if you choose to let them drive at a later age or if they don't choose to drive I was just wondering I don't mean anything disrespectful or hateful by this comment just curiosity❤
