O-M-G! Fantastic interview! THANK YOU for not interrupting, for letting him speak! I've watched too many interviewers interrupt, and speak about themselves incessantly. This was such a joy, to listen to Rod tell his very interesting stories. I appreciated how you waited to ask questions as well as- let him fully respond. I also appreciated you waiting to add your own anecdotes. Rod seems like a very nice guy. Just subscribed.
I remember Winger was on tour on their 2nd album. They were supporting Kiss. I think it was 1990. He did a drum clinic at a drum store called Portland Percussion in Portland, Maine. It was incredible. But the thing I really remember was him expounding on his love for Mahavishnu Orchestra and their drummer Billy Cobham. He was talking about a song from them and then proceeds to play Billy’s part, note for note! I wish I remember which tune it was. Mind boggling to say the least. And, an incredibly kind soul! Great interview. Keep up the good work!
So happy to hear that PIAT was so helpful for you. I produced and directed it with Rod. He was my best friends' brother in law and such a joy to know and work with.
This was my first concert when I was 14. Now in a couple of months I'm taking my 12 year old to his first concert- to see Winger. "It All Comes Back Around." This is a great interview Jason, thank you.
Jason we appreciate everything you do to the diaries, interviews and single broadcast.I look forward to it all all week long even though I don't get to be there live at every episode, but I will always go back and watch 🙂
Rod has described himself as a "card carrying hippie" I'm his explaining his taking part in the Jazz is Dead project, which I was a fan of, as well as the Dregs, and his instructional vids were like, a noine out of 10. He seems happy, so surely his personal life is much better than a "2".
Actually no it’s not a surprise at all anyone who has even remotely followed winger should know they’ve been legit and badass since day 1 one . Same dudes man
Nice interview! Had the opportunity to meet Rod (and the whole band, actually) twice and he was one of the most genuine guys I've met in music. He does have funny stories! Super cool and unassuming person.
Rod seemed to actually enjoy being interviewed. It seemed like a fun discussion for him. I remember when the Dregs would play a small club in my town back in the early-mid 80s. I was a kid, but I loved their music and appreciated their musicianship.
What a great man and great accomplishments, rod is the best.. he still goes at it like he is 20 years old again.. the dude can still kick some ass on the drums.
I remember seeing Winger in Philly with the Bulletboys opening then Winger then Cinderella. I thought that both Jimmy D"anda and Fred Coury gotta be behind the stage watching Rod knowing he's the best drummer on the tour.
Excellent interview! Every member of Winger seems to be very awesome guys. I have met Kip Winger and Reb Beach at different times and they were both extremely cool guys. Winger is one band that got better with time in my opinion, and their self titled debut album is a MASTERPIECE to me. Love all seven of their albums, but my favorites are Karma and Better Days Comin.
Rod is such a great guy and great drummer! I have some cool stories to tell about him and Winger and also Billy Cobham whoever wants to hear them. Thanks Jason! Great interview!
I knew that Rod is an amazing musician, but I had no idea he had such an impressive resume. Great interview. 😊 Can't wait to see them perform in January. ❤
Great interview! I was fortunate to see Rod play a few times with Steve Morse and the Dregs at the old, dilapidated Musicians Exchange Cafe in Fort Lauderdale in the early 80s. I'm betting that's where they had the power outage LOL. Rod is correct about your interviewing skills and knowledge. Thanks!
Rod Morgenstein... In the 80's I listened to a bit of Dixie Dregs and caught the eye of this drummer. A good drummer. Also read about him in Modern Drummer (at the time I bought it back in the day). I don't know much about him, so now I'll probably find out more.
@@WasteSomeTimewithJasonGreen So far, these are the best interviewers of musicians I’ve seen so far: -Jason Green -Pete Pardo (Sea of Tranquility) -Rick Beato -Dick Cavett You’re in some fine company!
Rod is a great drummer. Great interview. I loved it. I never put Winger in the hair metal band. I feel winger and Dokken was not in that category. They were great, Winger still is. Nothing wrong with She's only 17. It's a great song. I love Purple Haze. Jimmy Hendrix way it's the original but I find Winger did a good job. Great interview Jason 🤘 Winger still rock 🤘
Back in the 80s I was assistant stage mrgr at the Grand Ballroom in Reno I W was helping with backline and met Rod Gtest man! I told him I was a lefty too, he said can you play the sound check so I can hear it in the house? YES it was the green sparkle I think Premier ? Great moment in my life!thanks Rod ☘️💕
Rod still has passion!! and you can see and hear it in his voice and expressions! Thx Jason! for a deep Drummer conversation 🤘

“Putting it all together” and “Double Bass Drumming” were pivotal to my drum journey! Thanks Rod!❤
OMG toootally
So happy to hear that PIAT was so helpful for you. I produced and directed it with Rod. He was my best friends' brother in law and such a joy to know and work with.
Rod is such a stand-up guy and is like so real and just an amazing person and what an incredible drummer I might as well
What an amazing drummer. One of my all time favorites.
Cinderella, Winger and the Bullet Boys was the best arena show in 89! Well, Drx Feelgood wit Warrent also, Top 2 arena shows of 89.
Nice I was there!
I was there too! Fun show.
Yes!!!

Rods about the coolest Guy U could meet. & happens to be the best Drummer ever.
Thank you. Very good interview. Winger has never been one of my favorite bands, but band's latest cd is very, very good. BIG surprise.
Actually no it’s not a surprise at all anyone who has even remotely followed winger should know they’ve been legit and badass since day 1 one . Same dudes man
glad u discovered them as real musicians… if u erase images of their music videos and just listen to them live… they’re an awesome band.
What an awesome interview with two awesome people! Way to go Jason!
We just love Rod, Icon drummer, Thx for doing the small shows over the years.
must be awesome for his students

Rod is a drumming genius. That first album is brilliantly put together! I saw him play with the Dixie Dreggs at the Chicago House of Blues brilliant!
Rite on rod, winger, thanks for the 80s,and mtv
What a great man and great accomplishments, rod is the best.. he still goes at it like he is 20 years old again.. the dude can still kick some ass on the drums.
Yeahhh baby! He is such a wonderful guy.
One of the best
@Waste Some Time with Jason Green, do you plan on interviewing Kip Winger and Reb Beach as well.
I love that he got such a reaction out of those two measures on Seventeen and how thrilled he is about that!
I remember seeing Winger in Philly with the Bulletboys opening then Winger then Cinderella. I thought that both Jimmy D"anda and Fred Coury gotta be behind the stage watching Rod knowing he's the best drummer on the tour.
I am soooo loving this❤❤❤❤❤
What a great human being. I've admired his drumming for decades. But he's much more of a comfortable human being.
Excellent interview! Every member of Winger seems to be very awesome guys. I have met Kip Winger and Reb Beach at different times and they were both extremely cool guys. Winger still rock 🤘
Thank you
Out of sync for me but outstanding interview anyway. Drummers make the best interviews, not biased at all.
Loved it
Amazing band. And they definitely have the last laugh now! My favorite album is Karma.
Rod really blew me away with the Dixie Dregs..Dream Theater played after them, awesome show with both bands. That was in Denver Feb of 2000.
Steve morse band always are humble people
The inaugural MOR Cruise was 2012 not 2014. Although 2014 may have been the first year on the west coast...
It was Winger’s first year
Gotcha! Thanks for the clarification!
Cronos and Mantis are next week's guests.
