hey friends I just want to address something insensitive that i said in this video. a few of my Hindu viewers have kindly pointed out that Om is a very important word in India. I did know it was a real chant - in the video I was trying to succinctly give the vibe that Om the character, as a white guy who went to India once to meditate and then renamed himself Om, was an insensitive loser who repackaged actual cultures for his own gain (as he is portrayed in the book). But then I proceeded to provide absolutely 0 detail or nuance on this idea by characterizing Om as just a word that white women use to pretend to be monks. Which is partly true - the West "tries on" global culture all of the time without paying proper homage to communities or seeking to understand them. That was the stereotype I wanted to highlight to characterize this man, but what I actually said was very reductive and absolutely not the full picture of what Om is to actual Hindu people, and I am really really sorry for presenting it like it was or minimizing Hindu experiences with meditation or religion in any capacity.
It was absolutely not my intention and I am sorry for biffing that description as much as I did 😭 I will be more careful in the future but I am not perfect so please let me know if I make a mistake like this again! I never want any of you guys to feel unsafe here and would SO MUCH rather you tell me if you ever do so I can try to correct it both in the moment & moving forward.
    thank you

Hey! Great video! I was thinking about books today, and the book series Zodiac Academy came to mind. I though maybe it would be a good book/book series for you to do a review thingy on? In my opinion, it's fripping crazy, but idk, since I think quite a few people do like it. Yeah this is my contribution. I'll put some like spoilers (kinda) below the cut.
I remember in it there are two main characters, though i cant remember their names. They like find out they have powers, and go to this academy and ThEy'Re SpEcIaL and get all four elements or something, and there's a lot of SeXy TiMeS, and soulmates i think? And I remember one of the main characters had to walk through fire, AND GOT HER CLOTHES BURNED OFF IN FRONT OF HER CLASS ON HER FIRST DAY. Oh, and like their friend (whose name i cant remember), yeah his family is in cahoots with the dark side or something (he isnt though) and his FRIPPING BEANIE is what keeps ThE VoIcEs away.

I've just finished Pachinko and you summed it up perfectly! If a bit more time and emotion had been put into the death scenes, I would've cried the whole way through.

I came back to this video after reading Yours Truly and could not agree more! The first half was great with top banter, from about 2/3 through i was just plain annoyed. I was literally saying “No, no, no!” to myself. The miscommunication was just ridiculous and too much. I understand trauma but all men are the same? Just no.

Hey Lexi not to be evasive but I wanna reccomend a book for you to read. The inmate by Freida McFadden this book had me hooked her writing style is very easy to follow, short chapters, twist, and consistent twist and character development with a daily dose of character stupidity. I have read three of her books and currently this one was the one I liked the most so far.
    1.The inmate
2.Lie (can’t remember but it’s the therapist one)
    3.The Locked Door

Oh my god, that trope is one of the only ones I absolutely hate. I read a paranormal romance series (4 whole books) and at the very end of the last book they used that trope to fix everything and I was so mad.

Great video! I can definitely understand why you found Small Things Like These shallow, I really enjoyed it and got a lot out of it, but I think that's because I am Irish myself, and was very aware of the Magdalene Laundries when I read the book. It probably comes across shallow because Claire Keegan brilliantly captures this intense repression around trauma and bad things happening that was huge in Ireland not long ago. It spoke to me culturally.
