  • Urine bottles being thrown, doors broken off their hinges and threats of violence.
These are just some of the experiences nurses have faced at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital in Dorset.
They have spoken to the BBC to highlight the issues that many NHS staff face in the work place.

Maybe if you weren't so quick to turn on patients, this wouldn't happen. Your "niceness" is shallower with every year. Some staff are really stroppy to patients even in a life or death situation.

@@Taketheredpill2023 You're getting paid to abuse patients for 18 hours, five days a week? Yet you feel entitled to a better life? But how could that be when patients have prayed against you to live miserable?

I have videos and audio of ward staff neglecting and abusing a patient in severe pain, maybe stuff like that explains the backlash. It really is "If your face doesn't fit" and people just want to be treated with respect which is sadly lacking.

maybe you should forward that evidence to the NHS trusts involved so something can be done about it. Or are you just flexing nonexistent muscles?

I was a nurse caring for the elderly 50+ and I tell you something I would get mostly old men giving me shit.
I had this retired police man and he was so rude and vile.

Absolutely agree those nurses are trying to force help on those that don't want it they deserve to suffer and get attacked the patient are defending themselves against offensive nurses trying to help when we don't want help.

@@IsupportRussia nurses at the moment are imposing inhumane and ridiculous policies, such as scheduled and restricted visiting policies.
They are spineless and harmful, the lot of them. There are a few good apples who are helpful and have commonsense. But much like the admin staff, the majority do not care for the public they are supposed to serve, and who are paying their national service for them to even have a job on the first place.

Uk may look rich but there are so many mentally unstable people in this country, some are teenagers who occupy beds in hospital due to their drug addiction. Find reasons to be admitted to get hold of their drugs

Mental health, Alcoholism or Drug addiction may explain violent or abusive behaviour but doesn't excuse it. People forget sometimes that medical staff are there to help you and treat you and care for you.
It's a hard job with long hours, so show respect, understanding and restraint.

We don't want their help or care and they are trying to force it on us that is a more than justified reason to attack staff we will not sit here and allow them to force help on us when we have said we don't want it they are the aggressors for starting the offensive into try to care for those who don't want it.

Dude, did you just attempt to reason with people in acute mental states by telling them to "show some decorum"? I hope that is a joke. They don't act normal because they are *out of touch with reality* - they aren't being treated in the community because of government austerity, and they've been taken to a small understaffed A&E for the same reason. The blood is on the government's hands, not people suffering with dementia.

Nurses in the NHS and in America look at most like, "the patient isn't in their right mind". And we see when they get the help needed, most are remorseful. We don't want police and law to convict those not in their right mind. "it's part of the job" is a frequent response. We're here to help them and get them out of their psychosis, and the majority of the time, we do. It's not uncommon to have a violent patient turn to the sweetest human. So it's a difficult subject to treat those that are unwell, even those that are violent, and then tell us nurses that they need to be prosecuted. That's why it's such a tough subject. Most anyway. I would want more security, but not more assault convictions for someone that really doesn't understand their actions. Where to do you draw that line? I don't know. But we're a healing community, not a punitive one. "it's part of the job..."

Yes, but what about those who are in their right mind? I’ve seen that happen a lot. I get where you’re coming from. Alzheimer’s patients & the mentally ill are different, but that’s not always the case.
I also think staffing is an issue b/c you should be able to have another nursing staff member available to go into the room w/you when you have a violent pt. Can’t always do that when you’re short staffed & it gets dangerous.
I have a lot of respect for you b/c I couldn’t handle it & I quit about a year & a half ago. You are much stronger than I am. I was a CNA working towards my RN. I wanted to be a nurse so badly until I seen what all you go through, not just by some (not all) patients, but how you’re treated by the hospitals & nursing homes you work for! I know you have a lot of sweet patients too who do thank you b/c you helped them get better &/or saved their lives. I know they make it worth it to you. I’m very thankful there are nurses like you who care & are passionate about your job!
It just makes me angry that you get crapped on so much.

The waiting times are far too long because the staff get abused and when they go to prison and come back theyre allowed to be treated by the nurses the abused the first time so how about they ban any person that abuses a member of the healthcare team for life if you abuse someone that saves your life you dont deserve to have your life saved so if you permanently ban abusers of healthcare proffessionals then the waiting times will go down because there will be less people to treat

Status, gender, sex should never be brought into the mix to dish out silly sentences.
Just because of status doesn't mean they are not provoking or causing trouble with the police acting on their behalf even when they are wrong.
Nothing to do with mental health, sort out the system, it is not functioning.

DISCUSSED with the nasty and on a whole premeditated violence towards staff especially when it comes to a mental health ward, this takes advantage of the staff who come to work in mental health and care and themselves may have been affected personally with mental health issues, SHAME on you

Iv been a mental health patient for many years due to autism... Iv been on Manny wards and rarely see abuse to staff except from a few serious cases, which is why we have acute and piku wards... Iv only ever been on acute wards however I see patients been manipulated, gaslighted and forces to take medications that drs know are killing the patients, they don't care... What gives a Dr the right to abuse someone with forced medications and constant assault with needle weapons because they were raped by police officers... Drs covering up for there police colleagues. When the patient says no and you then force yourselves on people like your a good person for contributing to the abuse of a. Rape victim... Anxiety has a firm grip on my life due to police and hospital abuse and to have that manipulated by health care professionals to make me look violent is what's truly disgusting. The. NHS has turned rotten and all those who still think they are good people I wish a hard lesson onto them people. The police force is full of rapists right to the top and beyond, the NHS is no different. It's actually quite rare these days to find a good Dr or nurse at any NHS establishment. What amazes me the. Most is private health care is superior starting at as. Little as 40 a. Month yet the NHS costs the average person 200 a month and the care is shoddy at best... It should be a world leading service but it's barely even a service. A reboot is needed
