    All your research assistant videos are so so helpful, please keep them coming! I’m going into my third year studying biomed, and since my degree isn’t IMBS accredited I’m leaning heavily into the research assistant route - your videos have been a huge help, thank you sm!! 💗💗

    I have been watching your videos past few days and I must say, I am impressed by your work at Cambridge uni. Can you also make a video on how did your job application at Cambridge went, how did you manage to receive the job, how did you prepare for your interviews, and tips for students looking out for jobs in academia and industry?

    Hi, I am looking for research assistant roles, I am doing my MSc Public Health, the only challenge is I am allowed to work part time and the companies approaching me are offering full time research project. What should I do in this situation?

    • @biomedwithvy
      @biomedwithvy  Рік тому

      When I was applying to RA jobs whilst doing my MSc, I always told them I am only able to start full time once my MSc is over. Those who wanted to hire immediately ended up not giving me the position, but at the end, I landed a job that was willing to wait a few months for my start date. It depends on whether you're looking for something more permanent/full time in the coming years or if you're doing part time for the experience/side income.

    Hello Vy. Is it required for most research assistant jobs to require Master Degrees? What if I only have a Bachelors?

    • @biomedwithvy
      @biomedwithvy  2 роки тому +1

      it's not essential but having a Master's tends to make a candidate more favourable, this is usually bc undergrads don't have as much lab experience, i.e. having a bachelors can be good enough if you have a lot of relevant work experience.

    Thank you for such an informative video.
    I wanted to ask, are international qualifications less favorable than UK counterparts for research assistant jobs in the UK?
    I've got a bachelor degree from Egypt and master's from Russia (both from recognised good-ranking universities) and have the essential and most of the desirable criterias they are asking for, and have been applying for months without being shortlisted.

    • @biomedwithvy
      @biomedwithvy  Рік тому +3

      I am personally not sure about international qualifications but as an international student who has graduated from a Russell Group university in the UK, it took me many more applications to land my current job compared to some of my peers who have a British citizenship. This is because not all companies are licensed sponsors, meaning they cannot generate you a certificate of sponsorship required for visa application. Only bigger companies tend to be, which means most international candidates will face higher competition aiming to secure limited positions. However, don't lose faith! In my experience, you just have to keep on applying!

      each RA job has different essential and preferable requirements depending on the research project, so as long as you meet the essential ones, you stand a chance to be shortlisted to the interview

    I did my masters in Biotechnology from university of nottingham uk and graduated on 2020...but was not able to secure any position. Any advice for me?

    • @biomedwithvy
      @biomedwithvy  2 роки тому +1

      IMO, if you are getting shortlisted for interviews, then you can be relatively certain you have a good CV but the institution/company is looking for a different set of experiences/personality more suited for the role, in which case it might be a good idea to ask yourself what you really want in the long term and work backwards to find a role that aligns with your goals.
      If getting to the interview stage is the issue, I have a video on how to write a CV, but getting the right experiences also matters and that can be down to networking and finding opportunities for internships/work shadowing/lab experience. This can sometimes be down to luck but also reaching out to a people. Best of luck!

      @@biomedwithvy Thanks a lot for your response. I don't have work experience. Also, I have not landed onto any interviews. I remember getting my CV re-formatted and edited by my career counsellors. That pretty much helped me but I have not recieved any interview calls, which compels me to think I might have to work more on my CV and cover letter as you said

    Hello! I would like to thank you for making these videos, as these are really helpful for people like me who plans to apply for a research/lab technician in UK.
    Can I ask if you applied while you are still outside UK? Or are you already taking a Masters in UK when you applied? I asked this because I was gauging my chances if I applied to a research assistant position given I’m outside UK and currently finishing my Masters in the Philippines. I plan on taking on a research assitant job so I can pursue a part-time Masters in UK. Thank you!

      Hi! I'm glad you found it helpful 😊 I applied whilst I was still studying for my Master's and started the job ~5 months later.
