  • My favourite extracts from the teaching found in the water scroll, from the book of five rings by Miyamoto Musashi, (1584 - 1645) history's most famous Japanese Ronin and sword master.
If you like this concept I will also dedicate one video to the other scrolls, fire, earth wind etc
ps: I'm aware Musashi ment a katana when he talked about long sword, but I only have a nodachi at the moment, these concepts still apply ;)
My armour was made by Iron Mountain Armory.

It is said that Musashi did not take a bath or brushed his hair for years. As I dedicated myself to follow his teachings and to walk in his footsteps as a warrior I have not washed me or my clothes over the last three years. The effects are truly mindblowing My CHI has grown to a level that when I walk the streets people faint and fall to the ground like dead at a distance of 5 up to 10 meters! They literally loose conscience.
One thing I havent figured out is the following phenomenon, the power of my CHI seems to depend on the weather, on a hot summer day with no wind it is like a perfect circle around me whereas on cooler and windier days only those people standing DOWNWIND feel its k.o.effect but those UPWIND have to be as close as two meters before they take one deep breath and fall like dead flies. Any ideas?
PS: All these people that don't believe in CHI, I tell you, it's real! But it is not for anyone, you need the mindset of a true warrior with a stonecold heart, as you have to deal with the fact that you work with a power that is so strong, normal people can not even bear your deadly presence. I tell you nobody dares to mess with me now, people flee wherever I go! Isn't that amazing?

You need to consume more garlic in your diet during your Shinto ritual prayers. This will embolden your inner spirit and thus amplify your chi such that when you do deep breathing exercises within a few feet of others they will faint even if downwind! Hope this helps!

To strengthen your Chi or Ki, I further recommend implementing not only garlic (like TheScaleless said), but also onions and possibly hot peppers. Peppers would help Chi exit or emit in really strong and hot form from your rear end, whereas garlic or onion will from your front end.

Not me. One Halloween night a man with a machete and a hockey mask came out of the woods and started stalking my car. My friends started freaking out and yelling for me to drive faster, but I stopped and rolled down my window.
He came over, pulled up his mask and simply said "hi." You can meet so many interesting people if you're not afraid of death.

I understand how the mask is intimidating now. Once the eyes and skin are covered in shadow, the main traces of human within that armour is shown only in the skin of the hands. It is a black silhouette and shadow of death on the fields of war.

Another thing is that a mask or full faced helmet is hiding the identety of the warrior. In peacetime you might spar with a warrior from another court, or see them fighting someone else. With the face covered you can''t recognise and prepare your moves based of knowledge of his skills.

    • @adam-k
      @adam-k 7 років тому

Even though he makes a point in an other video that samurai did not wear face mask in battles. In fact there isn't a single representation of it in art when it comes to battles. Also in reality samurai armors were pretty colorful. Some were black as his, but most was painted and laced with brightly dyed silk cords

      So your argument is
      1. Musashi was a coward
      2. Americans like him
      3. Therefore Americans are cowards?
      How does this follow?

    • @dreadrath

I've heard historians say things like that, he's a child killer, though strangely a lot of them don't like to explain why he killed that kid. But it's their opinion, and be that as it may, I prefer the historians to state what happened without trying to impose their moral views on their readers. People these days get shit for wanting historians to be impartial and just state the facts much like journalists should, Sadly, that's not so in a lot of cases these days.
"Think as we say instead of thinking for yourself and forming your own conclusions." seems to be the way of things.

Just a note, when Musashi-sensei refers to a "long sword", he is referring to a katana, not a no-dachi. Though the principles can apply to both. As a practitioner of Heiho Niten-Ichi Ryu (Santo-ha Hosokawa-dento), we study the Go Rin No Sho quite a bit. It's quite interesting how much deeper meaning can be drawn from the text when you start to understand the actual techniques of the style and can see their practical application.

    • @RicH0864

Musashis Sword School still exists to this day.
    Hyôhô Niten Ichi-ryû.
There also some Training Groups in Europe and the US/Canada.
The Gorin no Shô(book of five rings) is the denshô of this school.
And while the translations of this is very nice and pleasing to hear
only students of Musashis School, who learned the Kuden to deceiver the japanese text, will understand the true intended meaning.

Distraction, deception and disturbance are three necessary things needed when battling. In case of blocks, the ability to disturb your opponents pace of blockage determines your escape from getting a rebound by the enemy. This movements can be understood from interaction of five elements, water fire earth wind and sky which water represents that which grasps or engulfs, wind as that which brings movement, earth as the substance of it, fire as the thing that converts and sky as the thing that holds. The interactions between these five elements with respect to time matter and space brings many aspects within its range of characteristics form and activities which leads to movements like holding, blocking, spreading, engulfment, predictibility of pattern, focus to break the engulfment, speed that distracts the focus through multi directional spreading etc

Dear Metatron, I have two questions and would be ecstatic if you answered: First, was the shadow covering your face part of an edit or is that how it naturally is with a kabuto and mempo? Second, what do you think are the differences between eastern and western war/combat philosophy (be it in scrolls, manual;s, treaties, and etc?)

I've been staring at my hardcover for years wanting to do a readthrough. I've a bit of Iaido training from the 2000s via Sensei Niclaus Suino. I saw sensei throw up some of his Iaido videos...a man with your training could likely appreciate his shtuff.
    Good vid!

Every opportunity is to kill. Not to block. Or to escape. Or anything of that sort. Simply, to kill. That is your only objective. Anything else will only interfere. Keep your mind on the goal and it will make it happen. It will aid you like no other. The power of a focused mind is limitless.

ABA - Always Be Attacking. Every defense should also be an attack. The whirl of a moulinet deflects the enemy's blade while following through to the cut. Every movement should be a deliberate, linear chain leading to the defeat of one's opponent.

    grazie

I wonder if Miyamoto san would approve of the choice of ground. On the one hand, you can't be surprised or surrounded. On the other, you can't retreat...

Have it read to you while you drive. Get the audible copy, it's quite decent.
