- On June 14, Pharrell dropped his "Double Life" single from the Despicable Me 4 film soundtrack. A lot of fans and publications think this is a response to Drake. Let's discuss.
#pharrellwilliams #drake #doublelife
You killing me smalls, hell yeah he’s talking about Drake lol
I just don’t see it lol
@RobMarkman agreed, I don't see it either. It's all intentionally about Gru. Inadvertently, though... some of those lines apply to Drizzy.
2:39 he a fan, he a fan, he a fan
Hahaha i should’ve did that part in the Kendrick flow
@@RobMarkman No Homo, but you look good for your age. I thought you were around twenty four until you said you had kids that are grown
To me it’s the most Pharrell way to diss someone without being hyper vocal, it’s the most subtle not subtle way to diss someone, to be that coincidental 🤣 the timing and the choice of song I mean you curate the music for it, and it leaves easy deniability while leavin easy acceptance.
Maybe. We’ll never know
The internet is talking about it, Twitter is tweeting about it. If Pharrell doesn't come out and say NAH it's not a diss at Drake, then it's the same as being a diss at Drake. For Pharrell to not dispel the rumors of the diss, he's let people believe it's a diss and that's the same thing IMO.
Pharrell is not gonna come out and address it. He rarely does interviews someone is gonna have to straight up ask.
@@RobMarkmanI think that Pharrell is too big to care about us. He can sit at the top of the hill and watch the chaos ensue down below. Talking about a rap beef would just solidify it and he’s never done that because his career isn’t entirely rap. Until then, it’s just speculation and will be forgotten quick
The thing that stood out to me as a clear reference to the beef was this:
Pharell on Double Life: "Some of your dirt has come to light"
Drake on Family Matters: "Your darkest secrets are comin' to light"
I think P gotta be flipping his own shots against him there
I hear ya.
Could’ve just been fresh in his mind when he was writing. Sometimes things sound similar when they come out around the same time, subconsciously. Who knows🤷♂️ It would only hurt Pharrell’s career to speak on it because white moms would be going “oh lord, Pharrell was fighting with some rapper” and he’s got a ton of kids songs
I’m pretty sure this song was used in trailers before that line came out
Pharell knew what he was doing though 🤣 He's too smart to not have phrased them like that on purpose
How ironic, though, that I was just listening to “Euphoria” recently wondering if Pharrell would diss Drake 😅
lol
Beyond the lyrics that match with sneak-dissing Drake, one line that stood out on Double Life was "So, I'm sorry, but you have to choose a side" because those word choices back to back sounds familiar to "I choose me, I'm sorry" on Mirror by Kendrick Lamar. I don't think it's far-fetched for Pharrell Williams to sneak-diss Drake on a movie soundtrack, because Kendrick has dissed Drake on the Black Panther soundtrack album.
I hear you. I still don’t buy it. I’m sorry. I hear you tho
drake buying these hip hop artifacts is like a global colonizer pillaging the villages they raided and then setting up a museum .... I don't see any other hip hop legends doing that
Facts
💯💯
British museum type vibes.
💯
@@TheWorkzBeatZ its so weird man
I was waiting for that high pitch ‘Pusha Tee’. Good video breakdown for the songs
😭😭😭
I think he dissed him smartly. To use the film would be a no no according to the film industry, they want no part of that. That’s why it’s smart. As always. Great video
Thanks for tuning in and sharing your thoughts!!! 🫡
always gotta remember that one point, The Neptunes produced more than 50% of the radio hits in 2000’s
What a time !!!
60% during one year. Then another indirect 20% everyone else copying their sound to survive in that era lol. A great time for music
One of the last real journalists alive frfr
Respect!!!
@@RobMarkman dead ass u the last of that cloth we known and loved growing up
@@giovanniortiz7301 I just wanna try and do a good a job as i can. 🫡
Pharrells impact on hip hop culture > Drakes impact on hip hop culture.
Damn. I don’t even wanna go there lol.
They both have given a ton.
@@RobMarkman true indeed, in another universe Drake did a whole album produced by Neptunes 🪐
Facts
@@RobMarkmanSound wise... Drake has hopped on a lot of waves, but you can define it as he was highlighting them. Drake hasn't created any waves himself.
You can't say the same about Pharrell. He's created waves. Not all of them were the greatest, but that comes with being creative, yet you can see Pharrell's happiness about them regardless.
I use to rap, and some of my schemes and bars weren't executed the best, but I love that I created them.
Drake is just happy to be a part of the creation of others. Hence, his many collaborations.
They forget Pharrell been around since the 90s 🥱🥱🥱
Yo, your voice is synonymous with one of the best times of my life. I didn’t appreciate Taylor Alderdice when it first dropped, but when my homies kept playing it - it became the soundtrack of our summer. It’s now one of the tops for me. Love what you’re doing on here, keep it up. Thanks for all you do, fam. Happy belated Father’s Day.
I’m glad that i could be a part of something that resonated. I’m grateful. Thanks for showing up!!
how do you miss all the references? lol it's definitely about drake....Kendrick used black panther to diss drake. why wouldnt pharell use this
Still not convinced
2:40 He a FAN 😂
It's a great double entendre.
Even the cover mimics Drake's life: gangster persona/rich boy with a mansion based on what he feels like.
Aye Rob, We Neeed that video on the Pop out man🤣yours the only one i was looking forward to watching. (Ik u probably cooking up rn)
The beat kinda sounds like a toned down version of the beat switch up for Kendrick’s verse on N.E.R.D’s “Don’t Don’t Do It” maybe I’m reaching 🤷🏻♂️
I like your brain, it's not a reach, I put Don't Don't Do It at 0.75x speed it and the instrumental sounds so close.
Appreciate the answering the question in the beginning. The videos where they wait until the end are mad annoying. Great discussion and thanks for the content. I doubt it's a Drake diss as well. P would have had to flip one of Drake's lines from his previous disses for it to be a real diss.
Yeah. I didn’t wanna drag it out lol
Nice shirt Rob. Where did you get it from?
Big fan of this channel.
The brand is Jugrnaut - they’re from Chicago. I got it at complexcon two years back. Thanks for coming thru
For Drake to even diss Pharrell is egregious, sad Canadian man
“Man”
amazing video, rob!!!!
Hey Rob, this is unrelated to this video, but have you heard if another Mac Miller release is being prepared by his fam? I'm still hoping for Run On Sentences Vols 1 & 2 to make it to streaming platforms
2:42 Drake moves like a museum
He’s like Klaue from Black Panther collecting all the history 🤦🏾♂️
The UK needs drake!
This is so clearly a diss Drake. Pharrell was just slick with it
I honestly do believe that this song is a shot at Drake, because a lot of the lyrics line up with his antics. I'm just saying. Especially "some of your dirt has come to light." Not to mention the first few lines of the song:
"Hey, what are you hiding? What you doing when you're gone? Nothing wrong with being private, just make sure it ain't wrong." To me, this speaks to Drake's weird behavior around younger girls.
I guess only Pharrell knows
As an Aries and the just feel like he’s on some oh well if the shoe fits and being petty we would do it on a song that will be heard by all audiences 😂😂 and we can be hella passive aggressive so yeah I could def see it and people askin if it is a diss was def intended
Exactly he would never confirm or address..he said it there and that’s it ..and Drake needs to stop he knows he’s a Startrak stan or else he wouldn’t have bought Pharrell’s chains or the clipse mic..he should be like Tyler and admit he’s a FAN and stop the hypocrisy ..Drake has done his thing but Pharrell/Neptunes musical impact is way bigger
The fact that it’s even a question is funny. I can see P on some “if the shoe fits wear it” vibes lol
Kendrick said it best
“ I don’t like you poppin shit at Pharrell, for him I’d inherit the beef”
ROB WHERE YOU AT, WE NEED THAT KENDRICK POP OUT REVIEW...BLESS UP
off topic, are you excited for the new dead pool wolverine movie?
I’m hyped!!!!!!!!! Can’t wait
Yo Rob what you you think about that new Common & Pete Rock?👀 For me it’s refreshing to get some straight Hip Hop again man just pure music
cant wait to sit with the album
I mean it fits so perfectly on the surface its about gru living his “double life” but drake sid diss pharell so it is possible that it could be towards drake too so idk it’d be amazing if it is directed towards drake but the movie is about gru living the “double life” stuff so it could just be the movie lol
Pharrell is the most Machiavellian man. If anyone could sneak a diss like this it’s him 😂😂😂
But I doubt it lol
Everybody reaching with this one.
Super reach
to me the shoe fits DRAKE tbh lol
also I'M HYPED AS FUCK FOR DESPICABLE ME 4
but then again it's also a dope Pharrell song lol
Yeah a dope Pharrell song for real. Lol
Drake is Gru? 😂
Lmaooooooooo
Erick the architect
Great guy!!!
"Pharrell dissing drake??" It made me think of RDCworld's skit of Future and Metro making a "diss album" bout Drake and saying "How Drake got beef with Common???"
Is this the same robmarkman from taylor allderdice, amber ice ?
Yup! Thats me
@@RobMarkman hell yeah 😎!!
NOOOO!!! this is a minions song damn
Right? Lol
I'd like to watch the movie first before i make any concrete judgements. Eventhough you could apply the lyrics to Drake, my question is how does the song relate to the themes in the movie.
I think it might be based on chad. Aren't they legal beefing at the moment??
I don’t think he’d do Chad like that, I think that legal thing they had will blow over. Felt more like lawyers going at it on their behalf.
Well somehow (and inexplicably) a Third Eye Blind song about crystal meth addiction found its way into "The Tigger Movie" soundtrack, so I'm not the least bit surprised a diss track against Drake is in a "Despicable Me" film, hahahahaha! XD
Kendrick fans always reaching. No, he wasn’t dissing Drake but referring to a character in the movie.
Let’s stop the nonsense at this point stop using Drake and the word real in the same statements 😂😂😂
The chains are in teh family matter video. It's easy to forget because Kendrick murdered drake so fast after that.
As much as i want it to be true because it'll be hilarious it feels like a stretch
Same lol
Yer
Yerrrr
Drake bought those hip hop trophies because he's a trophy hunter, like all colonisers are. Then he brags about owning some parts of hip hop culture, and disrespects the culture; because he'll never be fully accepted or be a part of it.
Drake is an actor and everything he does is for clout. He didn't melt those chains, he had them on in his family matters vidéo. There's a difference between paying homage and taking advantage to brag and disrespect. Drake is doing the brag and disrespect.
It could be..... Pharrell can rap.... Hold ya breath long enough, you might see Christ/Y'all critics killing me I thought y'all got my point-Pharrell (Got Caught Dealing II/We Get Money)
Pharrell can absolutely rap.
Kinda seems like it’s about Drake to me
I think this is a HUGE reach and a cope from Kendrick fans. There's really no proof Pharrell dissed Drake on this track, this track is very much relevant to the theme of the film.
Then why is the right side of the cover looks like drakes house?
Nope, Drake is just such a turd, anything negative in a rap sounds like it could be about him.... sad.
I'm 1st! 🎉
Wow. Damn. SMH. Lol
I am not here for a pharrell diss record rob he's just a meh to me as a rapper
No he didn't
Hey man, what do you think about DJ AK on stream with the dude who botted likes and streams for Kendrick?
I don’t know the validity of it, but also it’s not far fetched to me at all. Honestly i assumed every artist is doing that anyway at this point. “Not Like Us” still fire.
added streams for any artist just adds to chart positioning. To me the record was dope whether it charts 1 or 100.
@@RobMarkman right, the battle
Is already over and people keep going back to it lol
@@RobMarkman I’ll be at the concert tomorrow so I’ll see myself if the streams were botted
Don’t have an opinion on this vid bro , just slidin through to say “what up doe” 🫡✊🏾
Aye, i appreciate that!!!
