I'm late to the party, but I just want to say thanks for sharing your knowledge. This solution brought my A/C back to life! It was a great feeling when the cool air came out of the proper vents. When it's 120 outside, it sure helps!
Great video, just got done doing this to mine. I ran my line across underneath seal against firewall. Zip tied it to wire harness and ran through fire wall by steering column. Total time about 30 minutes!!
I got a 99 Dakota. The black goes to a line coming off the brake booster(which, of course, originates at the intake manifold). It exits the cab where the 3/4 inch heater hose goes through the firewall.
Its 2023 and i just got a 2nd gen ram like this one and had the same problem. THIS FIX THE PROBLEM! HE IS A LIFE SAVER OMG LOL!. Im glad you posted this on youtube. Without this video I wouldnt be able to fix my problem.
Thank you for blazing the way for this repair. My main vacuum line broke off at the firewall entrance at the AC lines too. I had the same idea but needed confirmation of the line to run. I ran mine through the fender hole and thru an grommet plug in the door jamb. WORKS GREAT. Another gd Ram problem solved. Thanks brother!!!!
My Man!!!!!!! You just saved me from a three day of research. I been having this problem by a few days and i just have Made the same you did. And it worked Three days dissasembling the dash and looking all the vacuum lines one by one jajajaja
This video is great!! My vacuum hose broke right at the firewall entrance and I was not looking forward to the repair going through the dash. This will save me tons of time!! I'd rather spend a little time and the $10 versus probably $300 plus taking it somewhere. Thanks for the tip!
Bro, after roughing it thru Canadien winter and 3 months of summer heat waves,l was going to pull my dash apart.Thank you very much for your video.lt was great. You kept it moving, and showing everything.. Thanks again.l subed also.
Worked perfect, I just cut the line where it ran down to the vacuum block, spliced in the hose, ran it out through a opening to the left of the steering column where the electrical for the stereo and amp came through, over top of the brake booster and zip tied it to the electrical harness across to the passenger side, was able to also get that thing away from the exhaust by splicing some line over where the plastic ones are and routing it behind the kegger.
Looks like your video is saving me a whole lot of headache. I have an '00 1500 and I believe if you remove the glove box and reach behind the hvac you can feel the a/c core tubes so I am gonna try to feed the line through the same way.
Thanks for the video. My vacuum line came off at the check valve. I could not figure out what was supposed to go to it. I guess the line fell back into the cab. My truck is really clean though. No cracks in entire original dash. Im going to try and go fishing.
Did this on mine, but avoided drilling a hole in metal. There's a body plugin a factory existing hole in the door jam/hinge area. I ran the new hose through that. I now get flow from all settings, rather than just the defroster vents. Still have issues with lack of heat though. Minimal heat on lower 2 fan settings, gets cooler on settings 3/4. Flushed core both directions, didn't get much crud out. Temp gauge is where it's supposed to be. My truck is a March 98 production. I've read there was a change in design at some point in 98. I don't have the electric blend actuator under the dash.
I know, 2 years old, but I flushed my core too, not much crud, and barely any heat for the past 10 years.Changed thermostat too made no difference. Mine is a 1-98 extra cab but no rear doors.
I was having some of the same problems with my 99 Dodge Ram2500 Van. After hours of frustration I finally found the ultimate solution for my HVAC problems and that was to pour lots of gas all over it out in the farm yard and put around a 1000 shotgun ,.22 and other various caliber hand gun and rifle rounds into it , then sot a bottle rocket into it and WOOF! up in smoke, didn't burn real good. On the next Monday or tuesday I called Ardnt's auto recyclers to pick up a freebie, the man asked what was wrong with it , I told him it was shot. I bet he couldn't believe his eye's when he picked it up, it looked like Swiss Cheese.
thanks bro , i found snapped off original line that feeds in next the two a/c lines. so i just slid a loose line over that for now and works. this will be my next step later.
I gotta give this a try. Been blowing out my defroster for 2 years now and I have tried finding the bad vacuum line. Heck, just replace the whole thing! Thanks for the idea! 👍
Thank you for this video very helpful, I have a '99 durango 5.9 its doing the exact same thing, but the line that goes thru the fire wall looks visually ok, could it be that they just get clogged?
I have the same problem...my vent vacuum line melted. Is it a lot of work to get the vacuum line through its intended hole? I dont want to drill unnecessary holes.
Does the 1/8 in. vacuum line slide inside the vacuum line that runs off the switch and then did youn wrap some tape around it so it does not slide out under pressure. This for an 01 Dodge Ram 1500. Thank you, J
@@jeffhull748 I did not put any tap on it it was pretty snug and ran it like that for another 2-3 years before I sold the truck didn’t have any more ac problems
Never mind my questions. After watching the video again lol! You had already answered my questions. You are a life saver!! I live in Texas and I definitely need my a/c as well! Thank you for taking the time to video type this for all of us die hard Dodge Ram and van owners!
I’m not worried about my ac but how was ur heat with this line being messed up I have a 99 ram 1500 my line is completely missing my heat only blows warm when I’m in park an only threw the defrost vents
@@CMWeber88 sounds like what mine does without the extra steps. I've heard that the cruise control service has a leak there. It's under the battery and battery box.
Yeah the vacuum line Chrysler uses isn't good for hot areas, so it dryrots cracks and falls apart, super bad design, what I call the firewall grommet, has multiple lines running through it, the lines inside the truck are fine, but once it goes through the firewall grommet they break right there so I'm just going to take the grommet out, and run all new lines through the grommet hole, but wow dodge what a fail.
You low on refrigerant. Your ac is cycling on and off too much and it should not do it that much and the condensate on the drier up on the firewall tells it all. Your a little low on refrigerant
My dodge condensates.like crazy when it's low on freon. I'm an hvac tech and I can tell you a handful of things that lead me to believe it's low just by your video

The vacuum tubing on mine broke at the firewall. Must be a weak spot. The plastic was a bit deliriated too.
I have the same issue. A/C only blows through defrost. I will look tomorrow to see if this is the same fix. Thanks.
Just had thermostat changed today. Still not getting to operating temperature and no heat 😢

does this fix heat to come out of the front vent aswell? no matter what it seems mines just blowing threw the vent
It should do the test at the window first
Thx man I appreciate the help, I had this exact problem
When turned on the ac blows hot air after the ac comes on for a few seconds
So was the vent door not opening? Because my vent door won't open and close?
Yea you can test it like I did to confirm that’s what was going on
Hopefully you will see this. My 98 the air coming out of the dash will divert to the defrost when I go up a hill. Do you think this will fix it?
I have the same problem, under any acceleration it switches to the defrost
Will this method just help to open the vents? My 99 dodge just blows through the defrost
Yes
i you do this it will work 🗣️💯
Which vac line did you cut behind the HVAC Controller?
The black one
Thank you very much
Thanks helped me

Napa auto parts

what part of the firewall the does the original line run through?
It goes through where the accumulator feeds into the firewall from outside passenger side.
Black piping at 1:13 mark.
Did you keep your defrost settings as well as having AC? Does the vacuum " fall out" under acceleration?
Michael Smith yea it always did that going up hill or 1/2 throttle
