Why the Ace Attorney Trilogy Is Brilliant

- The original Ace Attorney Trilogy are some of the most beloved adventure game visual novel hybrids of all time, but do they deserve the hype? Are they perfect, or do they have flaws? And if so, what are those flaws? And how does it surpass them anyway? Let's find out.
(This is a compilation of the retrospective videos I have made of the first three Ace Attorney games.)

Happy holidays, and thank you for the support this year everyone 💜 Something new coming in January, and Apollo Justice coming after that! Stay tuned!
You can feel the sweatdrop fall as the video fell under 12 hours..

Would an expectation of mid-March for the Apollo Justice video be realistic?

Excited for your future stuff! Could you please put these ace attorney retrospectives on Spotify as a podcast because it would be quite useful. Thanks!

a well spoken lady mostly dabbling in my interests talks about ace attorney for 11 hours?!
how could this get any better, or actually worse cause i do not have the time
This is my 3rd time watching this collection. 😅
The Ace Attorney series actually inspired me to pursue a career in law/the legal system. First as a legal assistant for 8 years and now as a court clerk in the criminal cases department at a regional court for almost 5 years. ⚖️❤️
I think this technically makes you Phoenix Wright himself
@@luketalbot2643 naw he didn't do it to follow a man. he's only half wright materiel
Omg that reminds me of my story! I played AA2 when I was 12 and was convinced I wanted to be a lawyer, I pursued until I was 23 then realized.... no... no I liked the game part of it
so I realized I wanted to be a game designer and that's what I went into hehe
omg same here! started out as an art major, figured out i didn't want to make that a career, played the games and decided to give law a shot. i've been a paralegal for the last few years and i'm working on law school applications now!
Just passed the bar exam this year. Story for why is also very similar lol.
All of the jokes about checking the timestamp are even better now. Its like Rise from the Ashes is a 9 hour trial now

And he left a dust imprint!
Regarding Rise from the Ashes, I always understood Emma came looking for Mia because she was acting against Lana's wishes. Lana was expecting to take the fall, she didn't want anyone competent to defend her. Emma went on her own looking for this Mia Fey she had heard her sister talk about, not knowing she was dead.
The saddest part about the hole thing in the second case? Had Mimi talked to Maya instead of Morgan? Maya would have GLADLY helped her trick that jerkface and ruining his entire visit. No one would have had to die. And all it would have cost Mimi would have bein inviting Maya to a burger
I'm not sure Maya would want to murder him though lol... which is what Mimi seems to have wanted
@@oneof9958yeah but I think the point they were trying to make was that maya would easily have agreed to pretend to channel mimi and say what she wanted her to say so he'd stop bothering with mimi and she could move on to live her life normally.
3:21:22 "well I guess phoenix isn't going to take down the prime minister" [Edgeworth investigations has entered the chat]
holy HELL i should just say this now but the voice acting for von karmas breakdown GAVE ME SHIVERS. props to whoever was voicing that
Thank you! All the voices but Tigre are mine, haha.
@@NezumiVA EVERYTHING??? YOU HAVE INSANE RANGEEEEE 🙏🏾🙏🏾❤️❤️❤️❤️
holy shit yeah, I keep replaying the scene where von karma uses the taser because of how insane it is; I am always awestruck when a va can make every character sound unique despite being ONE PERSON. I can only dream of having your kind of range 🥹
Something that i feel like a lot of people miss with Franziska when discussing her personality is that she probably didn't get the chance to be a normal kid. From the age of 13 she was made to work a difficult and time-consuming job, which cuts her off from kids her own age. She was dealing with more responsibilities than most kids her age do, trying to convict presumably dangerous criminals. That's a lot of stress for someone so young to deal with, not to mention her father's strictness adding even more pressure.
THE BIG COMPILATION LETS GOOO
i’ve watched the three separately about 4 times already…. and i’m gonna do it with this one too!!>:)
Dear god 44 hrs, I can’t hate.
It's funny that Marcie would call the pink paint in the RonDeLite case "Danganronpa blood" because I had just finished playing the first two DR games when I played AA3 and I genuinely thought that's what that was for a second before I remembered which game I was playing 😅😅
Angel Starr's nickname is kind of unfortunate if you think about it. It makes sense for her previous profession as a Detective but if somebody told me they were called the "Cough-Up Queen" and then handed me a bento box I would question if she got that moniker because everyone who eats her food throws it up violently afterward
The “have you?” bit with Iris and Edgeworth…. absolutely perfect
I think one of the biggest things that gets overlooked in the Fawles/Dahlia situation that makes it feel like it works for this instant, one that *isn't* his mental state, is actually Valerie's involvement in the initial heist idea, especially once you see later how many levels of fucked up house Hawthorne really is. It's not hard to read between the lines of the text and see a Valerie of the past who, in her crooked ways planned her much younger sister's seduction of Fawles that would lead to the ransom full well knowing he would make a perfect scapegoat. After all, she couldn't have gotten kidnapped for the ransom, she was too well trained as an officer, it wouldn't make sense. Dahlia though was just a little girl, one Valerie could say *he* manipulated with no pushback from the court despite his lesser ability mentally. It then makes Dahlia's character make so much more sense, after years of getting away with such a crime she was most likely gaslit into doing by her sister could finally pay off, and at a time in her life where that could be such a huge windfall for her, *now* Val gets a come to Jesus moment and wants to admit everything??? I can hear the inner monologue now, "fuck that, this is *my* moment, *my* future she's stealing from me with this that bitch," the demon of Dahlia born truly then and there by pure greed.
TL;DR: Val's position in the story makes the bits in which I'd normally say "that's weird for a 14 year old to be doing that," be quelled pretty quickly by the answer of ,"the 14 year old is doing that because her 20+year old sister has gotten her to do it."
You make a good point. Because it seems like most of the fandom simply forgets Valerie's involvement with the whole thing, in favor of focusing on just Fawles and Dahlia
To add to this, criminals manipulating people with high functioning disabilities does sadly happen quite a lot. While it's maybe not represented very well here it's not completely contrived.
Really? I always thought Iris was the one who arranged for the kidnapping and Valerie always just trying to put a stop to it? Terry talks about a sister helping them plan the ransom, and Dahlia always refers to Iris as a backstabber.
Regardless, that is a really good point and is still weird that two 14 year olds would plan this
@@omgwtfbbq767 Iris was supposed to help with the plan but backed out at the last minute. Valerie was always aware of the plan
@@omgwtfbbq767 Iris was seen as a backstabber because of her falling in love with Phoenix and ruining her plan to kill him, Terry knew of Valerie but not Iris as far as we know in the story.
I want to live in the parallel world in which phoenix wright is a hamster.
9:45:50 is still my absolute favorite part:
So, have you asked him out?

I once recreated this with my ocs lol
I'm glad someone else loves the Phoenix/Franziska dynamic as much as I do. I liked their out of court dynamic since Phoenix brought her flowers to the hospital and I was very happy when we got to have her as the obligatory teen girl sidekick for a bit, I obsessively examined every little thing during that segment so I could catch all the possible dialogue between them. They play off of each other so well and besides their banter being pretty funny it's really cute how they're warming up to each other with Franziska being her tsundere self and Phoenix kinda finding her adorable and not as intimidating as before. Definitely an underrated duo
9/10 Doctors recommend NezumiVA as the best way to burn half a day!
Did I watch all of these videos when they originally were released? Yes.
Will I also be watching and falling asleep to this compilation for the next several weeks? Also yes.
Happy holidays, Nezumi! Thank you for this. ❤
9:04:52 I successfully had pranked my ex into believing godot and Diego were twin brothers when we played LOL He believed me and was shocked to learn they were the same person 😂
Wait a minute, are you the same Cheyenne who I've seen on TheThirdBill's streams?
If so, hello again! Nice to see you binging ace attorney content like I am right now :)
Probably why you guys are ex's now 😏
curious to know what his reaction was when Iris showed up and actually *was* a twin for real :P
Hearing about Adrian got me thinking about the next time we see her. If I had to propose a theme for the mask⭐️demasque case, it’d have to be… repair. The urn keeps being broken, but keeps being fixed just as often. Adrian Andrews has moved on from the dark place she was in during her showbiz career. Ron makes up with Desiree, and the whole plot is us having to unfuck a case after we get a kind-of-erroneous verdict that puts our client in a bad spot.
They practically say so at the end, I’m surprised I didn’t… *put it together* before now.
[booing and jeering noises from the gallery]
Find it interesting how Turnabout Memories shows such a different Phoenix that makes perfect sense. Like yeah, he's always been impulsive and emotional, and he went through all of Law School for the chance to meet his childhood friend, of course THAT guy is susceptible to a manipulative relationship.
Have I watched all the Ace Attorney retrospectives a while ago? Yes, I have.
Will I take this as an opportunity to rewatch everything? Absolutely.
Marcie, I would adore it if you made a full video going over all the neat and interesting localization bits
When I first played Farewell, My Turnabout, I picked the "Not Guilty" option at the end. And it was glorious.
While Rise From the Ashes was definitely tedious to play through and I will forever curse that stupid rotating vase, it's very much one of my favorites. The mystery of Goodman getting murdered twice in the same spot was a fascinating one to try to figure out, and characters like Marshall and the Skyes were fun additions and felt well-rounded despite only appearing so briefly relative to others. The best part for me, though, was Damon Gant, who is by far my favorite antagonist. He feels so terrifyingly real in a way that others villains like Manfred and Dahlia kind of don't--this charismatic, domineering corrupt police officer that has the entire system under the thumb. Fighting against him felt like such a genuine tooth-and-nail battle and I direly wish we got more of him because he was just terrifying.
It really still urks me how the game (and a lot of other fans) say "Go easy on Acro" because he's sympathetic but like?? He still tried to MURDER AN ACTUAL CHILD????
I’ve heard your voice a lot from my boyfriend listening to your Danganronpa content, and he recently was the one to tell me about this compilation video. I am a huge Ace Attorney fan, but was like “11 hours? Nope” but I tried anyway because I wanted to see his excitement about you as a creator.
Before I knew it I was three hours in, then seven, then completely finished. I love this video so much and how you articulate all of your points. This was incredible, and I’m excited to check out more of your other videos!

I always interpeted Yanni Yogi's pasta shop bit as tragic. Like, he was imagining a future where he ran a family shop with his children.

I think what’s very underrated about Franziska is how perfect of a new opponent she is to Phoenix.
Phoenix was a novice lawyer in the first game, and yet in under 4 cases, he was making a massive name for himself. More specifically, the last case where he:
-defeated a veteran prosecutor who never once was truly defeated in decades of being a prosecutor
-solved a 15 year old case that not even people who have the ability to come in contact with the dead could get an easy response on who killed who (due to the spirit not even truly knowing who killed him)
-revived the reputation of said group of people (as shown and told in Trials and Tribulations)
(And this isn’t even counting the added 5th case where he was able to solve the mystery of two murders happening at once, AND get a chief officer arrested for murder which was very risky to get done)
Any prosecutor would understandably fear going up against an up and coming lawyer like him who’s accomplished and solved so much in under a year, you’d have to think so highly and arrogantly of yourself to think you could have a chance to take him on, to think you’re so perfect in every way that you can ruin his perfect record. And what do you know, Franziska just so happens to fit the bill. (And sure one could argue Winston Payne might also apply here but he probably just hasn’t paid much attention about what Phoenix has done since the last time he faced him compared to Franziska).
You could also claim that Godot is another great opponent for not fearing Phoenix, as he’s not in court to show he can take down Phoenix or ruin some sort of perfect record, he doesn’t care if he wins or loses as prosecutor (he literally states he’s never lost being a prosecutor cuz he….never was prosecutor in his life). He’s more focused on seeing if Phoenix can prove himself worthy to carry on Mia’s legacy and truly be a supporter of the Fey family, due to his affection with Mia before she died.
Godot isn’t really focused on Phoenix as a lawyer and trying to embarrass or ruin his career as one, he’s fixated on him as a friend to Mia and her family and trying to make him feel sorry for daring to basically exist after Mia’s death.
“Mia is still M-I-A in more ways than one” the amount of times i’ve watched this video and i just got that… 💀

1:49:46 It's also worth noting that Phoenix was only *just* introduced to the concept of ballistic markings 2 days prior when he tried to argue that the bullet inside Richard Hammond could've possibly not been fired from the same gun with Edgeworth's fingerprints, only for VonKarma to introduce the concept to everyone in the courtroom.
I think it feels very fitting that Luke Atmey is obvious, because he's always looking for attention, and also taking in consideration his name basicaly says "look at me"
7:05:22 Franziska tearing up is the cutest thing ever.

Thank you so much for this huge compilation. I discovered your channel with the Danganronpa retrospectives. I have watched all the Danganronpa and Ace Attorney videos several times over and now have watched this video twice already. I love the analysis of the games, pointing out and picking up on things that I hadn't in my playthroughs and now can't unsee. Ace Attorney is a series that is dear to my heart as I first played them with my sisters watching and we were all hooked into the stories it had to tell. Now my perspective has changed, shifted and expanded through seeing it through another's eyes. Thank you for sharing.
I love these long form analysis videos, they're my favourite kind of content to fall asleep to, listen to in the background of my studies or just to watch again while I craft. I'm excited to see your next triology videos. Keep up the good work! Much love
Though her analysis skills are top notch are we not gonna talk about Nazumis voice acting! I would listen to her dub the entire AA franchise.
Thank you so much for this retrospective
I watched it for the first time a couple of days before you released your Apollo Justice video, and it almost single-handedly reignited my love for the series
I sat through it for 2 or 3 days, and I loved every single second of it.
Now, I'm just waiting for Steam's summer sale to buy all 3 compilations and replay each game (and play both TGAACs for the first time too)!!
And while I'm waiting, I think I'll be rewatching this retrospective over and over again, and maybe even falling asleep to it!
As soon as I stumbled upon your channel, i was hooked!! Idk what exactly it is about you but the way you present topics, your humor, snappy editing etc. It all hits the nail right on the head for me 🪷
You could out out an 48h video and i would watch it all the way trough! Keep doin whatcha doin, much love 🥰
I love how I fell asleep listening to this compilation (I have watched each of the og vids all the way through) And then suddenly woke up at like 4am to the opening of justice for all with the demon judge yelling "You can't run forever!"
Luke Atmey's breakdown reminds me of that 80s gameshow which from thw wrong angle looks like hes pleasuring himself behind the witness stand while looking at you.
I've been an ace attorney fan since I was in high school, and I've had an internal monologue of what these characters sound like. I'm three hours in (Just finishing the case with Lana and Gant) and you've captured these characters in the scenes where they speak so well that i've felt the need to leave a comment. Bravo. I'll be sticking around for the other 7-8 hours of this. Keep up the awesome work.
Oh boy, here i go rewatching these again
Hell yes! Been waiting for the compilation video of this series. Cannot wait to binge watch it over the weekend like i did the other videos 🤩
Some of the best decisions of my life has got to be wandering the Steam store, looking for a game to spend my money on and to see that I could purchase the entirety of the Ace Attorney Trilogy right then and there. I never would've imagined that a game styled in this fashion would also end up to mean so much to me despite being a newer person to the franchise since the release of the Apollo Justice Trilogy motivated me to spend many hours a day playing through this game.
Not only have I somehow played through the games and watched both seasons of the anime, I've come to eventually watch each individual video of these videos AND rewatch them + more in the form of this specific video.
Personally, thanks for making these well done videos and for also sharing a lot of thoughts about this trilogy. It's been a blast to watch every second of it, and I can't wait for the release of the future ones regarding the sequels!
I fell asleep to this compilation, and it wasn't even over when I woke up. These videos are a testament to an amazing amount of effort!

Regardless of why he did it, the image of Godot with Misty's Sword/Cane goes *hard*. A gentleman cyborg assassin
Time to rewatch these video even more! I really appreciate all the effort you put into these videos.
I'm just gonna drop this here; I love this game series. I'm gonna come back to this video when I finish the trilogy -- But I just wanna say. An 11 hour video? About my favourite game series? count me tf in.
Perfect for when I need something to listen to at work, thank you!
I loved your description of how Distant Traces feels post learning about Dahlia's true nature. The song still sends chills down my spine every time I hear those opening notes, over a decade after hearing it for the first time
"babe wake up, Nezumi posted an 11 hour video"
i always took the rise from the ashes retcon as less that miles had never forged evidence and more that miles didn't know about it. I personally don't think he ever went that far (although he definitely concealed evidence and manipulated testimony) and his horror in RftA is him being ashamed that he was so bent in getting a guilty verdict that he never bothered to check. which would lead to a need to re-examine his work philosophy
I accept this challenge of watching the entire series again, but in one video.
Optional objective: Watch in one sitting.
@@thegreatstoneddragon9432get a feast on deck
Ironically this video is about the same length as one of the longer and bigger cases so it's objectively less of a challenge than just playing the game

IM SO EXCITED FOR YOUR APOLLO JUSTICE VID!!!! I finished watching now and you showed me some viewpoints about certain topics that I didn't even think about before!! So good!!
Can't wait for you to talk about two of my favorite characters in the series (Apollo and Kristoph)!!
I have such violently vivid memories of struggling through Rise From The Ashes on a hotel room floor at age 12-ish, completely blind with no walkthrough, blood BOILING over the Blue Badger Vase puzzle. Good times best game series maybe ever.
oh god 11 hours. That's a new record. Can't wait to binge watch it.
I totally understand frustration with the Bonus case, but my God, Gant actually had me intimidated. What a great antagonist.
I found your channel throu this series covering Ace Attorney and even after many replays and now a eleven hours compilation I still can't believe you did all but 1 of the voices throught the whole thing! You are truly impressive.
My favorite one is that one interpretation at the end of Farewall, My Tournabout. Great work! And thank you for displaying hours of incredible work!
After this almost 12 hour video i went to watch objection funk (very cool song) and realised the fandom is insane
Just finished watching the whole thing, and I just wanna say thank you so much for putting this together; was nice to be able to get a bit of extra context with the additional edits here & there, and even though I had to watch the video in segments over the course of a couple days I really enjoyed getting to hear your thoughts on the series again!
I watched this whole damn thing and my girlfriend was concerned.
Your channel's videos quality and the research required for them is something I'm sure would make most people dread the word research for weeks on end, your diligence is extremely admiral dude I hope you realize that
Only reason I dislike Mike Meekins is because of that damn Megaphone that he constantly uses
love this video. all of your points were so well thought out and correct and your recap is also amazing. i've been thinking about making an ace attorney video for a whilee (mostly comparing the earlier and later games) and i watched this like "well surely this can't articulate all my points on the trilogy THAT well.." Well turns out it did. your analysis on dahlia and godot were standout moments to me that i think a lot of ace attorney fans don't necessarily get right-- i've noticed that people will either ignore dahlia or give her attributes that are not present in the game, and a lot of people write off godot because they're put off by his personality. also, your voice acting was great, it took me several hours to be like "hold on... i think this is all just her doing all of these voices." truly a great video!
The parallels between 2-4 Phoenix and 1-5 Edgeworth are genuinely amazing. In 1-5, an unbiased Phoenix has to help an unknowingly complicit Edgeworth. Just as a defense attorney puts their entire faith in a client, the prosecutor does so on the investigation. When that very investigation is muddied and corrupt, the prosecutor too becomes sullied by association. That final speech by Gant showing his true colours causing Edgeworth to re-examine what being a lawyer means to him, leading into JFA...
...and in 2-4, an unbiased Edgeworth, now on the other end of the crossroads has to help Phoenix get there. Now Phoenix, who put his trust on his client blindly, like Edgeworth did the detectives of SL9, has to face the truth that not every client is a victim waiting to be saved- sometimes just a disgusting rat bastard wearing the face of a man. And the reveal of Engarde's true self causes Phoenix to re-examine what being a lawyer means to him.
2-4 is one of the greatest stories written in video game history and rightfully takes its place on the Ace Attorney Mount Rushmore of cases, next to 3-5 and 1-4
I love listening to these videos at work, so it's nice to have them all in one place like this now!
Oh wow, 11 hours!? That just proves how much hard work you put into this!
Thank you so much for the compilation
My gosh, I didn’t realize these games had violence murder blackmail drugging suicide mass death grooming psychological abuse child abuse kidnapping AND captivity! I played this game when I was 7!

Ive been rewatching this over the past days and I love your retrospective so much. And Im so excited for your vid on Apollo Justice, its my fave in the series and one of my fave games of all time!!
Thank you for this amazing video. I can't wait for more retrospectives, you do an incredible job.
amazing video, really loved it. fun and funny and also deep and thought-provoking. been in a 2- or 3-day rough patch mentally and it's been really chill and easy and comforting to be able to just turn on this incredible work and find a quiet space. never played ace attorney but now i almost feel like an expert, lol! thanks for the dedication!
This essay inspired me to finish the AA trilogy so I could enjoy watching this
Just imagine when the Apollo Justice videos are done and we can edit all those videos together. Maybe like an 18-20 hour video!
wow, thank you again for such a great retrospective series! i love these games too, and the effort put into your videos really shines here so it's really nice to see a very thorough and intelligent take that i 100% agree with. i've seen the original videos before, but i really enjoyed that you used this version to add some additional comments after the fact! very excited for more in this series, and for your others too (though i'm too much of a scaredy cat to be able to do the ones for horror games). please keep up the excellent work!!
It's 7am. I have spent the whole night watching this in the same way I spent whole nights playing the games on my DS. Thank you.

Just wanted to point out that one of the bits of dialogue with Someone (I think Ron but not 100% sure) actually says that when Ron was fired his card was taken away from him but apparently in the blackmail letter he was given his card back which I'm guessing was reactivated. I do still think it was a bit annoying that they put it in an optional piece of dialogue that most people won't even see because you have to present something that most people probably wouldn't feel the need to.
the reason was covered in the game but they definitely should have put it in one of the main dialogue parts instead.
i only discovered your content this month but i went on a binge and now im frothing at the mouth waiting for the apollo justice video
