Absolutely love your videos!!!
Useful review, for a shoe that I would like to see get more attention. The wider toe box you emphasize around 5:20 is crucial for me, as well. I tend to do well with 'wide platform', but if Hoka had insisted on combining it with a pinch-toe (narrow) upper, my feet just can't tolerate that. Will be interested to see how this G5 fares against other brands. Curious if the feel of this shoe reminds people of any other models.
Thank you for the comment and interaction. I really appreciate it your insight.
I’ve ran in almost every Hoka and the G5 is very unique due to its bigger toe box. Imagine a lighter Bondi 8 with a wider toe box/ base. That’s the shoe.
Thanks for this video. The Bondi 8 was way too narrow for me, especially in the toe box, so I was hoping the Gaviota 5 would be a great alternative. The Gaviota is definitely wider in the toe box, but isn't anywhere near as cushioned as the Bondi 8. Hurt my feet on long walks. Looks like I'll stick to my Arahi's.
I’ll get a pair!
What I would love to see is a Gaviota with a vibram outsole. It’s a great shoe but I’ve had it for a month and the outsole is wearing down already!
That would be great…I agree 💯. That would make it pop for sure and hopefully add some longevity
I’m on my way to 1000 miles in my Bondi 7s. The rubber does what it does but the heel cup is where the sadness has been since around 400 miles.
@Deadbuck73 wow! 1000 miles on a shoe. That’s incredible. Super impressive
@@JoelLong well it’s been 925 before today’s run. I started them 11/2021. Aside from a few trips into Fenway Park I have only worn them for running. I do that with all running shoes until I retire them. But between a few injuries and a Corona break, then a major surgery I just have kept them going. They are my daily. I’m saving up to get another pair this fall. 😆
Fire shoes 🤝
Agreed! Thanks bro!
Why the change from late-stage meta-rocker to early-stage? That's what I liked about the 3 and 4.
Thanks for the comment…that’s a great question.
I guess would be that they changed it due to the modifications and updates to the geometry of the shoe. Since it now has a massive base and H frame technology, giving it a early-stage metarocker would give you a more smooth transitional roll.
@JoelLong You're welcome. I guess I'll have to try it out to see if they still work for me.
its most soft than kayano 30?
If you were a newer runner how far would a recommended distance be for running?
For new runners, I don’t necessarily recommend focusing on distance but rather time on your feet.
Some people may be fast and some people slower, so it’s really a case by case basis.
As long as you don’t violate the “3 toos” too much, too fast, too soon…you will be ok.
I would recommend someone starting out with a run/walk method for 15-20 minutes and building up from there.
Alright thank you @@JoelLong
You’re welcome. Thanks for commenting!
Nice shoes
Thank you!
This review would be much more relatable if a dude with wide feet was doing it. Someone that finds comfort in a 2E or 4E New Balance shoe for instance. Most folks looking at this shoe are considering it for the stability and the wide toe-box. I find the New Balance sloppy at times and I'd like something different.
Thanks for the interaction and input. I do believe that they have wide and extra wide options available in the Gaviota 5. I hope you find what works best for you.
Yes. Yes. PLENTY (key word) of rubberized outsole. Misleading dude. That the rubberized outsole goes all the way around the perimeter is one thing...but doesn't qualify it for the use of "plenty". Plenty would refer to the actual thickness of the outsole that gives an outsole its longevity. This sole will wear down in no time.
I appreciate your perspective. Thanks for the feedback
Can u recommend a good alternative stability shoes like this?
@drojeen2580 for Hoka or another brand?
@@JoelLong yes, hoka or any brand stabilty show with wide option
the gaviota 5 is a glorified bondi shoe which is more neutral than stability. removing the j frame and making the sole less supportive.. I am not happy with it at all. I wish they just refreshed the 4 lol this isnt even gaviota anymore
Thanks for keen observation. Ill getting gaviota 4 instead of 5. Can u recommend other stabilty shoes as well?
