Trying Spanish Craft Beer in Os Ancares, Lugo

- Part two of my trip to the Ancares region in Lugo, Northern Spain and we meet a couple of the locals, Manuel and Angelita, and we try Manuel's tasty Spanish craft IPA beer, one of the better craft beers in Spain, in my opinion.
Check out the beer here - www.cervezamil...

Coming from the upper Midwest portion of the US. Over the past several months, I’ve definitely fallen in love with the country of Spain! So much culture. So much history. So much diversity. So much to learn about. Always enjoy the very informative tours in and around the county!
Me ha encantado el video! Such a great idea and so nice of you giving visibility to this local beer and little paradise. Great job sir!
Hola Stuart, that village looked beautiful, as always in spain they do t realise the beauty they have in the regions, love the videos, from Dublin Ireland 🇮🇪, Hasta luego
Thanks Stuart, what a beautiful place. The Lady was right in her view of happiness, the simple things in life mean so much.
Really enjoyed hearing about the beer production, the full circle of the rye plant, it’s use in traditional roof thatching.
Cheers from Australia, Chris
Nice vid Stuart.. This is my style - no flash, no fake reality - just the true essence of the place your in with good company.
How sad, but thank you so much for capturing something of the old life there. What a lovely woman.
That was superb Stuart. I loved that. My idea of the real Spain. Great video, thank you.😍🏴😍
Terrific... I've been searching out videos like this for over a year now. I'm not Spanish fluent or altogether culturally aware but I'm getting there. Spanish conversation with annotation with relevant & interesting subjects can be good finds. thanks again
Absolutely stunning place in the middle of nowhere. A secret gem. Thank you for your everyday report, I'm curious and looking forward to news from Spain every day. Keep on! Greetings from Czech republic.
Great job Stuart. You should be a travel vlogger in your next career.
I think he already is! 😀
Probably best not to travel so much when u are trying to stop a virus spreading around the country
What a gorgeous place up in the hills...
Hi Stuart - This is fascinating, thanks! I always think of Rye as a Northern European grain. But it really suits this beautiful rugged Landscape. Pity that all the younger people have left - just like in Italy. Empty Villages.
That has been an issue in these parts of Spain for so long and it's exacerbated by the very low birth rate today. I'm a visitor of Umbria in Italy too and it suffers with exactly the same problem. Beautiful part of the world and no opportunity for work or decent employment.
How beautiful and authentic. This way of living is the future not the past....maybe a message from Covid19 however painful the situation is for all of us it’s about local not global. Respect the land, people, get what you need for your mental and physical health not for greed...sadly the ads are not quite in rhythm with Manuel but maybe useful to some until the world changes. Gracias Manuel y Stuart, y muy interesante. Qué Bueno ver la naturaleza del norte de España en tu vídeo. Gracias
Great to see you out and about again on a proper visit.
I wondered when this would be published. Great video, Stuart!
Good to see the Spanish fully embracing the IPA. Delicious ales.
Hola!! Este ha sido mi video favorito!
Gente sana y noble, trabajando duro pero sin la maldad ni la anciedad que tenemos hoy, un abrazo fuerte y ojala puedan recuperar ese pueblito.
Stuart su Español es perfecto!!👍👍
Nice video Stuart well made and formative,
keep up the good work.
Fabulous, Stuart! Thanks for sharing it. I'll look for the beer.
Super video Stuart! I would love to see similar videos which highlight the people who are breathing new life into these regions. When I saw the rye, I thought, “hmmm, that could make a good whisky as well”. Keep up the great work!
Hi Stuart, thanks for something completely different and away from all the pandemic concerns!
What an amazing trip to that village while also trying to pick up on some of Manuel’s conversation!
Thank goodness for subtitles 😂😂👍🏴
Hiya Stuart, interesting video thank you for sharing, stay safe.
Very interesting Stuart a beautiful area lovely blue sky thank you
Muy bueno Stuart ! finalmente hablando en castellano y gracias por tus videos !!
Wow Stu, you made it to my neck of the woods! Hope you got see Cañones del Sil and O Courel.
My family is from Quiroga and Obarco. Covid has me grounded in the States, can’t wait to go there.
What a pleasant trip that was! Thanks, Stuart.
What beauty! What a wonderful place.
Well done, one of my favorite, Thanks.
Cool place. Should visit some day.
I love remote places. The most remote so far we were, at Casa Rural in park natural del cadi-moixero in Catalonia.
The views around and especially on Pedraforca are stunning.
Love your videos which are full of information.
Hi Stuart another great video nice to see inland spain. Off to Nerja in October for the winter there's so much to see inland on my way down. Been following your videos for some time really enjoyed the information you give out, thanks
Wow - I enjoyed this video. Amazing views and friendly people.
Amazing Video.
You should do a Travel series in and around Spain.
Loved your tour around the area..You are so down to earth and honest about where you visit..You actually feel like we are there visiting with you.
I looked up places for sale in Galicia, specifically in Ourense and Lugo and the prices were higher than i expected even the" Fixer Uppers ".
Mate I bet when the cameras were off, that beer went down like a homesick mile. Great video.
Awesome video buddy!! That beer looks incredibly delicious! Congratulations to you all guys, for spreading high culture content!
Galicia is so Beautiful...My family have a small home in Murcia, but I just love northern Spain I hope to get to Santiago de Garabandal next May ...
I certainly have enjoyed. Thank you.
Excellent job. Thanks for sharing. Nice to forget Covid for a while. Spain has so many places waiting to be discovered. I bet some of those old houses will eventually become retirement houses for city people or perhaps for central and north europeans. That is what is happening down in Murcia. Old houses are being bought and renovated buy retirees. Keep up with this line of information. By the way, I like your T-shirt from Mount Orohena , Tahiti. I was there long time back. Regards from the deserts of Qatar.
Great video, Stuart. I love the interviews.
Nice change of pace, bravo 👏🏻
What a nice change to the gloom and doom. Thanks
Thanks Stuart, great stories
Loved this. Superb.
Beautiful video Stuart thank you so much I really enjoyed it, Manuel must work really hard everyday, I can't believe this is going on everyday in Spain while I am stuck in front of the telly. As soon as this virus is under control I am going to try to explore more of the "off the beaten track Spain." Thank you again. x
Great lov it stuart reaching parts others beers cannot reach..
A jackpot of very high quality produce and all cool colmo beer you can drink.
My husband and I really enjoyed this episode, Stuart! Thank you so much! If you keep this up, you'll be getting a call from National Geographic or the Peabody Award judges!
That was really good thank you 🤗
Thanks so much for this adventure. The Days XXX needed a day off.
An excellent video. Thanks, very interesting.
Great video Stuart, Beautiful place !!
The actual town of Lugo was somewhere I have visited just once a couple of years ago but I intend returning when this pandemic is over. The walls are, I believe, the longest unbroken Roman remains in Europe (effectively the world therefore) but it had a night time bar life that was quite distinct from anywhere else we’ve visited in Spain. But I’d love to check out Os Ancares next time I’m there!
Fabulous hotel in the middle of nowhere!
nice one stuart, would look into properties there, with changing climate and seeing it will be cheap as chips its a no brainer.
👍 cheers ! Lovely people!
Definitely a place to visit when I am up that way next July/August. Nice one mate 🍻🇪🇸😎
Great video!
Stuart gracias por dar conocer Os Ancares al mundo... a veces nosotros no lo valoramos
Excelente Estuardo !!!
Fantastic video, very interesting!
thanks stuart galicia has plenty empty villages because the youth move to the cities for work thanks for this video
GOOD DAY STUART!!😊 Now that was a truly GREAT VIDEO!!! Lovely folk in it too, we really enjoyed it! Brings joy to us sat in a a cold wet UK! 😉 Seem like everything is getting banned in Spain with the NEW NORMAL!!! Hope they don't ban MASTERBATION!!!! keep up the good work! Lots of LOVE, Karin n Nic 😘Xxx
Just northeast of Xinzo de Limia, Ourense Province, there is an abandoned village called Couso Real that was bought by an entrepreneur and converted into a hotel. All the abandoned houses were rebuilt to serve as rooms.
The lady's accent is wonderful. My ears are tuned to Andaluz and I feel like I can almost hear the proximity to Portugal in her.
She speaks Galician, which is 100% Portuguese. The difference beetween Galician and Portugal it's only a political one, even Instituto Camões (the RAE of Portugal) says in their site that Galician dialects are in the same language as Portuguese dialects or colonial dialects.
Great video. Beautiful. Maybe a vineyard ?
Was good..documentary and interviews style...
That was a nice vid Stuart, it's a pity that once those people die a whole way of life will be forgotten. The old senora was right about having nothing and being happy, it's only stuff and the desire to aquire more stuff that makes people unhappy.
As I get older , I seem to be more attracted to a more peaceful life like this !
Great one Stewart !! these villages need as much help as they can get as the populations shrink, unfortunately its happening all over the campos, love a nice IPA.
That problem is very difficult to reverse I'm afraid. It's a massive problem in Castile as well. There are so few job opportunities that ambitious people are compelled to move. Business shrinks even more and when a school has to close due to lack of numbers it's serious.
Thank's Stuart amazing discover of Los Ancares beautiful area for sure! Who said only shitty weather in Galicia ? 😂 Are you living in the area ? We looking for a property few ha, big house to renovate and river accross in the area or Asturias any advice to find at correct price level ? Thx
Which do you prefer for quality of life? Portugal or Northern Spain? We are an expat family living in Spain and seriously considering moving to Asturias / Galicia / Cantabria.
Both places have differences, but I don't see a huge difference beetween Galician and Northern Portugal, for example. I think the only difference is that Northern Portugal has lower rental prices than Galicia and the cost of living is also a bit lower (excluding petrol or pharmacy products, which are more expensive in Portugal).
Nice video again!
Have to admit I’m missing La Capa Marina you had in Portugal
Great video. Nice departure from the usual Covid news. I know you have spoken about this before, but how long did it take you to become fluent in Spanish?
Anyone here done any building renovation projects in that part of Spain? I have found the major problem where I am is the bureaucracy and associated fees and taxes which can make a project unviable.
@Bilbo Baggins Too numerous to list in a UA-cam comment.
tiny homes, would be a good idea
have you any information about it ?
@@Davis89199 Not sure I understand what you mean.
@@juvenalsdad4175 An English woman built her own sustainable tiny house in Spain.
It's a lifestyle choice that people all over the world are taking up.
youtube has lots of tiny home videos.
@@Davis89199 Hello again, I just watched Elizabeth's video, and well done her! It just goes to show that not all hippies are daft. I very much identified with the 'people said I was mad' thing. Been there, heard that. I did wonder how she got an American company to give her a solar set-up though.
Os Ancares is in Galicia, you must say it,a old celtic nation with her own language.
Her unique language that is almost the same as my Portuguese in Southern Portugal...
Hola Stuart! I saw a video documenting a number of villages either abandoned, or like Os Ancares sparsely populated. What’s causing the exodus?
The exodus has been going on for many years. Nothing new in Spain. No jobs. No schools, no hospitals, sometimes not good communications. Only rural tourism helps a bit.
@@idemserra The same in Portugal. Most villages in the north of Portugal have lost fifty percent of their inhabitants since 1960. My neighbor told me that in his village near Chaves there were 50 children around 1975 and two football teams. Today the primary school lies abandoned and the two or three children are transported by bus to Chaves to study.
Maybe if the government instituted a kind of homestead act, with subsidies, like we have in the States, it would encourage budding agriculturalists to resurrect some of those villages. The efforts of Manuel were very impressive and a bit touching. Great work to give him the exposure and credit he deserves. I’d buy one of his Colmo t-shirts!
I noticed that when the village lady said, "antes trabajábamos como negros" Stuart left out the politically incorrect reference to black people. That is a dilemma. Do you translate it or do you leave it out? I don't know. I guess he did the right thing.
@@meilong2338 Absolutely !!! The woke brigade need a smack. (although the quote in question is definitely offensive and largely obsolete..i hope)
I could easily move to a location like that except I hate snow.
How lovely but sad about the abandonment!
would i live in that village yes .and i am a 74 year old from the uk .
Interesting
Celts, in Spain?
Yes indeed and very proud of their heritage. As a fellow Celt I completely approve.
Celtic tribes were the indigenous people of the majority of the Iberian Peninsula before the Romans linguistically romanized them along with the non-Celtic Iberians of the east and south.
Fantastic job Stuart but you have to learn a little galician.
I am the first person to leave a comment.
and i noticed your comment at 456am, trippy :)
Manuel for PM.
just like Chancey Gardener
People are leaving the country to go to the city's the opposite of this country 😉
Yes, depopulation continues to be a disaster in many parts of Spain but Galicia really has suffered with this problem.
9:20 interesting translation there...
Hi, couldn't translate her exact words. Especially with the current climate.
@@spainspeaks completely understandable. You translated the actual, non-literal meaning effectively enough, anyway.
@@jeanbethencourt1506 or deftly tip toed around the racism...
@@stephen1145 it's just a saying. No need to to try to impose your gay Anglo values on other countries that don't care for the smiling hypocrite ways of northern europe.

I'd like to know what was dislike about this video
Manuel needs to study English online with Stuart.
I would say more foreigners need to study Spanish if they want to live in or visit Spain.
Los Ancares , sólo existen en León!!!
León, Galicia y una pequeña parte de Asturias
"Trabajar como negros" = 'work hard' 🤣
