- I just heard the news that the amazing and talented Kathryn Grayson has passed away at the age of 88.
I am heartbroken.
She is one of my most favorite actresses ever. I simply adore her. I remember watching her films when I was four years-old.
She will be missed.

The vibrato of Kathryns voice is just so beautiful. Her duet with Howard Keel of "Only Make Believe" from Showboat will always be very special. Long live her contribution to the Golden era of the great Hollywood musicals. Thank you for posting.

I'm really saddened to read that Kathryn has passed away. Showboat is one of my my favourite musicals of all time. She and Howard Keel were fabulous.

So sorry to hear of her passing. My own mother passed away in april of 2009 at the same age, 88. Thank you very much for the tribute. I watched Showboat just today one of my mothers and my favorites.

What a sad day. We are losing so many of the really class acts. Remember those beautiful MGM musicals where true talent was seen and heard - and there was never a vulgar "F" word expressed?? What we get now is violence, expletives, and immorality. I'm sure to many this comment may seem to be old-fashioned, corny and pedestrian, but whenever I learn of the loss of one of our iconic entertainers, I long for the those days of decency, charm and gentility. RIP Kathryn. You have left us with a vocal legacy of which you should be proud.

In darker days after the second world war, food rationing etc Katherine and Howard Keel/Gordon McCrae lit up our days with their songs..... Katherine was also a hint of the girl to come in my life too which i realize now..RIP Kath....
Here's a true story you might not know about Howard Keel and Kate Grayson . They were watching the premiere of "Serenade" unbeknownst that the star of the movie Mario Lanza was sitting right directly behind Keel and when the part of the movie where Mario was singing the operatic duet from Otello ,Keel leaned over and abruptly said to her " Only a Mad-Man can sing like that" Mario became furious and with that booming clear powerful voice of his leaned over Keel's seat and said " That's right Howard, fuck-up and let loose it might make you a better singer"
