I respect those who deserve respect. As a retired police officer I have become more and more disillusioned and despairing of the blatant two tier policing taking place today and although it’s mostly down to DEI appointed, self serving management and politicians I have to say that front line officers would do well to remember that they are appointed constables and always have the final say when it comes to deciding who to arrest or not. They cannot be forced by anyone. It’s their decision. It’s on them. Do your job without fear or favour. Don’t lose the respect of those who want to support you.
that sound's pretty fair to me m8, but leadership comes from the top down and the guys on the street seem to have only so much room to freestyle. something that made both of us angry was when i was talking to a friend a few days ago who's daughter is a newly minted PC placed on the front line at harehills with other newbies, and she got jostled & spat in the face, but didn't take any action because she was told to 'contain' and not possibly 'escalate', which didnt work anyway. IMHO if you are going to be charged with applying the law you should do it whatever and to whoever, and any result of that is a seperate issue. We need stronger and proper leadership, which is where it all begins and ends. GL

I hate to have to say this but I am a bit disgusted at the behaviour and lack of discipline of our police these days, they seem to have lost the ability to use common sense, either that or they’ve had it trained out of them. They also seem to have forgotten that we all have eyes and can see perfectly well what’s going on.
Well said Dave , I'm tired of it all myself, I've started making a point of not getting involved in heated debates anymore on media platforms like Fb, and on reflection the more you get involved the more angry and depressed you get with the way things are, and I've got better things to do with my life, like enjoy what time we have left with my family and positive pastimes . Keep riding over the hills and moores and taking in the peace , Cheers Mel 🍻
Hi Dave, as a young police man in the RUC in the height of the troubles in the 1980's , I always remember my sergeant on a heavy rioting night ( one of many) making a statement that " you know your doing a good job when both sides hate you" .. the very thin blue line. Regards .
Nice one Dave. Thank you so much for that. The incessant bombardment of information - a lot of it either untrue, or carefully engineered to cause division is indeed overwhelming. Honest inner reflection and daily practice of gratitude are essential antidotes.
For my own reasons I decided to write down the essence of what you said, which was excellent and needs to be part of the school curriculum. Reflect inwardly on what your attitude to life should be Navigate your way through life doing the best the best you can, as much good as you can and causing as little damage as you can Respect your fellow human being, regardless of colour, creed or culture Above all else be true to thine own self Trust your own instinct Don't be manipulated by anybody, anything, any organisation, any school of thought, any philosophy Go through life treating people as you would wish to be treated yourself Ignore the siren voices of division Reflect upon what's good in life and how to make the most of it It's a short life, let's make it a decent one. yes, a good sentiment & sounds great doesn't it, - perfect for la-la-land, until you are the victim from people who don't feel the same way & see your good nature as a weakness to exploit. what do you think drove hundreds & thousands of normally placid people out on the street protesting, probably for the first time then being labelled 'far right' by the msm and two tier kier.
Thanks for sharing your inner thoughts about this situation. Being a Belgium citizen the only thing that I can say is that I'm very worried for GB. I see a pm with a rather thin mandate denigrate working class people and their concerns. I hear that at any time more than 4000 people are in jail for thoughtcrimes like tweeting or just sharing a tweet. Just to bring this into perspective: Russia is a far bigger country, at war and they have 200 people in jail for saying things the government and judiciary don't like. I saw a British police officer bragging about his thought police unit browsing the web and threatening the civilian population. WTF is going on, why do you allow this to happen? Why aren't there more protests? Where are your basic rights like free speech and who decides what hate speech actually is? These things are very real and legit.
As a recently retired police officer I no longer recognise the police I joined. It has morphed into nothing more than a puppet of which political party that manages to con its way into number 10! I’m lost for words to describe my frustration. I had to retire to regain my sanity. Thankfully I have managed to get another job. Minimum wage but I’ve got my self respect back and actually love getting up work each. I’m out of it and glad to be. I’m still proud of what I achieved and serving my community to the very best of my ability! I miss the everyday people I came into contact with. Many of them helped to keep me grounded. Never blame the men and women who are on the front line. Blame those at the very top who have no idea what being police officer is there for. These people rise to the very top because they can’t hack it on the streets dealing with the public. They prefer to terrorise their own staff because they have a little bit of authority over them.
