I’ve been a fan of this time in movie history since I was in middle school. My first exposure to it was The Wizard Of Oz. But it was The King & I that made me want to see more.
A truly magical film with such a wonderful ending, the true meaning of Christmas, this is what Christmas really is about the Birth of Jesus. This is my favourite Christmas Film of all time with such a wonderful cast.
This always gets me. I am a Christian and always push Jesus into the holidays. Perhaps that is why I love this movie and why this one in my opinion is the best. Because it reminds us all what the holiday is all about. I know Jesus was not born in December but we chose to honor his birthday on the 25th. Over the years we forget with Santa Claus and other things. We need to get back to the basics.
If this last scene doesn't tug at your heart, as Dudley slowly walks out of frame and out of their lives, completing what he was sent to do...you have no soul. Wonderful movie and acting
Wonderful movie brilliantly shot by cinemaphotographer Sidney Tolar...After Alister Sim's A Christmas Carol, my favorite Christmas movie and great movie period...Merry Christmas Everyone...
I am a minister and I wish I had Dudley to help write my Sermons! But as I prepare for my own Advent worship this piece of cinema treasure still inspires................wondrous!
the words live in your heart... being in the area of your congregation, you come to know their hopes, dreams, joys, struggles, and fears. what is church, but not a place to have hope refilled? you'll do well.
@@valentenaupton2805 I disagree with the length if you are ministering in the flesh then keep it short but if in the spirit let him guide... No they will not receive it all but each part will touch someone
This is one movie which should be on everyone's Christmas movie list. Sure, it's dated and corny to some, but this film issues forth with such a feeling of warmth and hope which this world desperately needs on this day (Dec. 21, 2014) and until Christ returns. I truly wish I could have watched this magnificent film with My Heavenly-Resplendent Wife, My Eternal Love, My Barbra Rose. Barb died from cancer on Nov. 22, 2010. We had only two years together in this life. Somehow, on the darkest (literally and figuratively) and coldest Christmas Eve I've ever experienced in my life (Dec. 24, 2010 - a month and 2 days after My Barbra Rose died) I was about to enter a church in my city, when, from out of nowhere came a feeling of warmth - a feeling of joy - a feeling as though I was being watched (like the professor as he entered the church after looking around). Before I entered the church on that Christmas Eve four years ago, I knew that My Savior Jesus Christ, My Eternal Love Barbra and countless numbers of angels were watching over me. I get that same feeling each time I view the end of this sublime classic Christmas film. A Merry Christmas 2014 to everyone -- everywhere on planet earth! Barbra, My Matchless Gem from God, My Eternal Love, I'm still praying and hoping that you will be allowed to return for me very, very soon. No mere angel from Heaven will do -- only you, Barb! I'll be waiting for you, Barbra, My Darling of Darlings!
it's these "dated and corny" things that seem to have real meaning in the world we live in. Notice the peace the speech brings as compared to the polar opposite in a film. To me any film that brings us to think of our Savior in a meaningful way has the true power. If so, bring on the corn. We need more of that heavenly vegetable.
I'm not religious at all, but this ending is gorgeous. Let each put in his share: loving kindness, warm hearts, and the stretched out hand of tolerance. All the shining gifts that make peace on Earth. If we all did this even 10% more of the time, can you imagine how much better the world would be? Now imagine 20, and 30.
A Biltmore Christmas on Hallmark Channel encouraged me to give this movie another viewing! 4 more days until Xmas. And here I am revisiting this bittersweet ending! And the story’s themes of rediscovering your own happiness and making a difference couldn’t be timelier with the state of the world right now!
A truly magical Christmas film, so moving if everyday was like this, the world would be a better place.I believe Angels are out there and are looking over us.
sets a standard for on screen sermons---inspiring and touching. its really amazing that Nivens performed this role only a year or so after he lost his wife in a tragic accident. Not a trace of that dark time of his life is on his face. That's fortitude and character.
A thoughtful movie made even more memorable by its outstanding musical score composed by the underappreciated genius, Hugo Friedhofer. While Friedhofer scored many of the early Hollywood films that I did not see, he also collaborated in the scoring of a western series on TV called The Guns of Will Sonnet (on ABC from 1967-69).
Look you guys it's 2019 and you cannot rent this film anymore; they've chopped it up it is, to me, simply unavailable. First time I ever wished for a teenage son with brilliant geeky talents … sorry about that I feel better now. There are so few traditions left and this was an important one. Merry Christmas to all and sundry.
I’ve seen this film so so many times and it never fails to put a tear in my eye. Wonderful film.
When I watch this it reminds me how small everything else in life is. I watch this every Christmas and cry tears that are gifts 🎁
Good old Hollywood 😍

I love this movie and I love that speech! This is when Hollywood still had some decency and made great movies. Sure do love those times.
I maybe 30 but as a young cinephile, I know how you feel. I’ve been a fan of Hollywood’s Golden Age since middle school!

Still the same wishes aren't they ? 1947 to 2017. Nothing has changed. Still the same message. We don't hear it.
Jo Antionette yes we do!

Calling all angels walk me through this one.....
Between the choir piece and brief message, this makes the point of the ultimate gift we can give...ourselves. Thanks!
Loretta Young's eyes could melt the coldest male atheist's heart.
Chills
*Same.*

Gordon Macrae, Dudley is always with you, trust me.. Keep on doiing your good work, please. Thank you.
Such a wonderful Christmas movie (but, the '96 re-make completely missed the mark).
I actually like both versions
