Keep in mind this is not a 4x4 pickup. It’s a 4x2 with a 4 to 8 hp motor. Maybe. Basically an electric golf cart. It does have a pretty hefty payload capacity for its size. I like what you start with here. You have an inexpensive complete body shell to start with to do endless modifications with. This is something I can have a bunch of fun with. For not a whole lot of money. Question. Do you have to pay the 25% federal import duty chicken tax assigned to trucks? And is that tax included in the price?
actually its more of a washing machine with wheels a gold cart motor would have more oomf but its cheaper because of that so that just helps make it easier to buy
I'd really like to see you guys build out and mod this thing further, for proper overlanding fun. Here's some thoughts 1.) It's clear it doesnt have the suspension travel to keep all 4 tires on the ground and suffers from open diffs. How about a simple diff lock? Failing that, how about differential manual brakes? (meaning, a brake handle for the right and left brakes, so you can just brake the freespinning wheel). Or failing all that, how about a welded diff? 2.) The rear axle is a solid axle with leafspring suspension, right? How about revolver shackles to keep the wheels on the ground. 3.) Bigger battery/bigger motor, for more range or more power. Maybe try sticking with cheaper off the shelf parts for this to try to stay in keeping with the low cost of the overall vehicle. 4.) See how much you can tricklecharge it in the field using solar. 5.) How about a truck cap, and a simple camper setup in the back for the true "overlanding" experience.
Yeah we’ve begged them for it and apparently they’ve done some tests in the factory and just don’t like the issues they have running four-wheel drive so we’ll see if we can get them to do it
These little trucks are so simple that you can change almost everything yourself, which is also a big plus. Ebikeschool has shown what mods he has done to his dad's truck, including suspensions. You can also put a solar parnel on the top that will charge half of it during the day.
Remember now, the range he mentioned is manufacturer's data, running on skinny street tires, with lights and air conditioning off. Once you add the fat knobby tires, run the AC, and all lights on, you should expect half of the 40 miles range he quoted!
Yes but these trucks are so refreshingly simple that you can upgrade them pretty easily. You could add bigger batteries and a solar panel on the roof. Ebikeschool has done the latter and it almost doubles the range for him.
That truck comes with 2 battery options. Someone who bought one straight from China a couple of years ago.... Got the upgraded battery pack and just a roof rack single solar. You could easily fit another 2-3 in that bed. They were getting 1-2 weeks of "daily tractor use" out of it on a charge before the single panel, they said they were getting 4-6 weeks after the single panel. And I'm betting the better electric gennys can charge the Chang li..... So that would be a few extra miles all on it's own as well.
I wouldn't look at this as a buy it and be satisfied with it type of deal. The idea of something like this is super cool and getting the shell of it and mod it up to be a beast is something I could toy around with. There's endless electric motors/batteries online that are way more powerful that I am sure you can jerryrig something to make this a beast.
It costs less just to order them from China ($3000) and pay the crazy shipping, tariff and import charges (another $4500)... and ship it to your location. Basically you are charging $1000+ to handle the paperwork. They are just not worth $8500 anyways. For that price I can just go down to Tractor Supply company and get a nice Coleman (named brand) 400cc UTV with a dump bed, horn, mirrors, blinkers, headlights, brake lights, power outlet, 3,500 lb. winch, 4WD, push button dif lock, all-terrain tires, and hydraulic disc brakes... that goes 38mph. They have a 200cc one that does 25 for $7k.
It looks cool, and is probably fun. People need to remember that it's like a golf cart. It's not a mule or ATV. It has no suspension articulation. No lockers. Then again, it looks cool and costs half as much. Keep it on the dirt roads or use it around the farm or ranch. EIM did some great mods to make it look a lot cooler. Well done.
Great looking little vehicle!! Can you make a video showing more detail of the build quality like the frame material, quality of the welding, metal gauge, D.O.T. stamps on windows, lights and lenses. I'd hate to spend 10k on something that's not gonna last more than a year.
No DOT ratings on anything. Welds are crap at best, splattered, partials on some. Not a horrible vehicle with a little work. Clean up and finish the welds, give the bed and under body (maybe all of it) some raptor liner or something similar, tie up the wiring better in places. Chase the rattles and quiet them down. It would be a great little GP truck for the property, hauling little stuff on good trails.
