  • I had to make a modification to the umbrella stand pipe that I made a few weeks back. Apparently, it's best to actually take measurements of the umbrella end as well. Go figure. At least I was able to make a quick modification to get the pipe to be actually functional.

That's a lot of work not to mention having to have the right tools.

True. This type of solution is only feasible if you have the right tools, and know how to use them. My videos are only meant to give other people ideas by showing them a solution that worked for me. If you do not have the tools or experience using them, perhaps you know someone else who does? Additionally, I don't mind the work... I actually enjoy it. On the up-side... this was a ~$20 repair (total for both videos), compared to spending a LOT more for a replacement umbrella (my brother couldn't source just the umbrella stand pipe - not sold separately).

This is useful, I got an old umbrella and the poles of small umbrellas do not fit, besides the umbrella is gigantic.
      God bless you.

any kind of sleeve without welding - like a fernco?

Hmmm... Good question. Since the only "Fernco" fitting I know about is flexible (rubber, I think) - my gut reaction would be to say "No". But - I'm no expert. There may indeed be other solutions out there, but I doubt they would be better than welding. In the "Part 1" of this repair, I contemplated cutting out the damaged section. If you are able to find a strong enough pipe (schedule 40 perhaps) with a tight enough inside diameter that will fit snugly over the existing pipe sections, you might be able to cut, drill, and bolt the pieces together. No clue how long it would last though.

Very nice work. Curious why you didn’t torch it.

What exactly do you mean by "Torch it"?

Todd McMahon Use a torch to heat the pipe and expand it.

@@ryanmcmahon6210: Ahhh! I understand. I thought about it, but I would need a "Pipe Expander" to do it cleanly, and didn't feel like spending $30 or more on a tool that I currently wouldn't use very often; Expanding the pipe would weaken it; This was an easy method, and didn't cost me anything but time, and results in a much stronger fitting.

I know, right? While it is MY fault, I'm still going to blame my brother for not bringing me the umbrella along with the bent pipe the first time! That's my excuse, and I'm sticking to it! ;-) To quote Adam Savage: "I reject your reality, and substitute my own!" :-D LOL!
