    Great 3 part series of paddling in Killarney. Great heartfelt chat at the end as well. That is what our paddling community should always be like... Thanks for sharing Andrea

    They were aka as the 'group of seven'. Gosh Andrea, I could listen to your voice all day and night long...lol. It's Very soothing and relaxing and...interesting. You are such a sweetheart. That water is breathtaking with its color. The rock in the water if it is the one I am thinking that you pointed at is covered in canoe paint...lol. What most people do is they get out and stand on that rock then have the other person take photos of them as it looks like they are walking on water in the middle of the lake...lol. Gosh you are making me want to go back to Ontario (4,112.6 km away from here) for a long canoe trip with you. Spanish River trip mostly takes 10 days. It does have lots of rapids and fast moving water in parts and rough portages. The voyager route. I would be novice too when it comes to rapids but I do know what to look for. I also like doing something more relaxing and leisure like as for a long trip with interesting scenery. Countless places to choose from as far as canoe circuits go. Nice places in Algonquin too but portages are rough as well. It is getting late in the season too as far as down East goes. Sigh...and the way the crazy world is today, it is hard to know what is going on. I am not sure if they quarantine if traveling inter-provincially,. Canoe trips are great to get away from it all. After a trip, I can perhaps serenade you on piano while you whip up a beautiful painting haha. I am an artist too in acrylics--landscapes and ocean scenes.

      Yes, the Group of Seven were members of the Ontario Society of Artists (which is based out of Toronto and still going today). The OSA, and A.Y. Jackson in particular, were integral players in the foundation of Killarney as a Provincial Park and saving the area from being logged. Ontario is certainly full of so many wonderful canoe trip opportunities! I think my passion for canoe tripping has grown exponentially this past year because out there, we forget everything that's going on in this crazy world right now. It's a lovely way to escape for a bit :)

    That looked like a great trip, it's always a bit of a challenge doing that type of stuff on your own; you really learn a few things about yourself I find. Really nice canoe and dog! The scenery looked amazing, reminded me of northern Sweden.

      Thank you! Yes, a little challenge & learning about one's self can be such a good thing... and perhaps a bit addictive, lol. Especially when doing so in such beautiful places. Northern Sweden sounds like it would be a cool camping destination!

    I really enjoyed all 3 parts. As Canoehound Adventures said, your heartfelt message at the end says it all - we have a great community & I'm thankful that your experience was a positive one.
    I also like your taste in books. I just finished the same one a couple of months ago. He's such a great story teller! And a quiet, but wicked, sense of humour to boot. :)
    Looking forward to more of your videos!

    Found your video while trolling around for Ontario back-country vids, enjoyed following along. Nicely done, taking the initiative to follow a dream and go solo. The pup will be an incredible companion if you do more of these types of trips - and for just 6 months old he was sure nicely settled and stayed close. The Nova Crafts are wonderful canoes - picked up a Trapper 12 this year although it arrived too late for my own fall trip into Algonquin. Already planning more, though, so it will get a workout! And yeah, the vast majority of folks who back country paddle and camp are pretty awesome folks. Cheers!

      Hi there! Yes, camping with a canine companion is amazing, and she doesn't seem to have any desire to wander off (may be a Shepherd trait). I agree about Nova Craft Canoes... my pup's name, Nova, might just be a slight nod to my canoe! A Trapper 12 sounds like it'd make for a good solo boat? Will have to take a look at those... I'm not addicted to canoes, I swear! Definitely feeling the itch to get next years trips all planned out... a nice winter activity. Hopefully your fall Algonquin trip went well, and you have many adventures in that Trapper this coming season. Thanks for stopping by!

    I have a Wrangler too. But now looking at the jeep gladiator cause I need a pickup so it's best of both worlds!!!

    My first solo I was a bit nervous/cautious with the whole thing. I planned it around wind. Now I am comfortable with it after 5 solo's. One thing you should consider is, they make/rent "Pack Canoes" for soloists. they are as light as 25-30 lbs. the seat has a backrest, and they substitute a canoe paddle with a Kayak paddle(efficient). I used it for 2 trips this summer including my first Killarney trip. Out of bell lake into David Lake. I love these pack canoes as there is way less need to be concerned about solo paddling in wind. if any. Good luck on your next solo.
    editing this, didn't realize it was your own canoe, so forget about the pack canoe tip:)

    • @andreabrand23
      @andreabrand23  2 роки тому

      Hi! I have seen the pack boats, and they are awesome! The weight factor for portaging is what interested me, but I didn't realize that paddling in wind would be easier too. Thank you!! I might just have to invest in one someday, but renting one is a great idea. I definitely prefer using a canoe paddle, but did use a kayak paddle when necessary, for more speed, etc. 5 solo's is an amazing accomplishment!! Good luck on your next one too :)

      @@andreabrand23 My next I'm hoping to go north for a week. I see someone commented below about "lost lakes" . I'm getting ideas from them, and others. "Canoe the north". they go everywhere up there. Maybe Temagami.
      my first time trying to paddle solo across Burnt island in wind , couldn't do it. had to get towed but it was 16' and doing it wrong i think. And it was friends in the other canoe towing and they capsized while doing it( but close to shore) lol
      First solo trip regular canoe I got up in the dark to paddle before the wind where I thought it might be tricky because I watched people struggle as I passed them the day before into the wind.
      know your winds and if possible hug the wind side. That shore is calm maybe out to 50-100ft.
      And don't think u have to follow your booking if you wake up and it's dodgy wind on a good size lake. Stay safe.
      Like Opeongo. I contemplated it as my first solo but was concerned with wind on that big lake so skipped it.

    • @andreabrand23
      @andreabrand23  2 роки тому

      @@brentkelly5445 oooh, yes Temagami is definitely on my list!! Yep, my plan when I encountered the extreme winds on George Lake was to just wait for evening, or even camp at the portage where I was overnight if necessary, until morning... since evenings and mornings are usually calmer. But thankfully that wonderful family came by with an extra person to help paddle with me! In Algonquin, I have had to stop at a lake that was not our booked destination due to unsafe stormy weather conditions. Made for a memorable trip! I think I'd be concerned trying to tackle Openongo even with a partner in certain conditions... that lake is huge & I have heard numerous stories about how crazy and wavy it can get!
