I named my company Shining Star Electric when I heard Jerry perform it. I was stuck on what the name of my solar company was gonna be. Wow. Soooo many roads
I agree 150% I have been listening to the show and specifically this song from the show on a continuous loop more or less and basically sober for more or less the last 24 hours and I haven’t stop listening yet it’s magical in every sense of the word and mix in a beautiful sunrise or sunset and each of us begins to realize what and how such an extraordinary man like Jerry Garcia can go so deep and bear his soul and share his grace, that blessed us with his love for all of mankind now for eternity and also for everyone who had the opportunity to hear this song during this concert in 1993.... and allow each of us listening in person that night or also years and or even more years later to be the very best human we can also be and for all of us as a collective whole or a mix and match of the most beautiful individual parts…… The shining stars Jerry and his amazing band had in mind for all of us to discover on our own…… Happy tears, A love so divine,, a sense of purpose, A joy like no other, blessed in every sense of the word, and more and more and more…… How can we really and truly ever completely say thank you…… We really are are not even compelled to do so and Jerry’s not asking us or wondering or wishing that we did say thank you…… He just wants all of us to keep listening keep reaching for our own shining stars that he knows and now still believes to this day are all around us each and everyone of us…… I’m still gonna say it anyway though…… Thank you Jerry so very much so very very much…… And also a big thank you to Will Donna Jordy and more for sharing this masterpiece with me the first time over 20 years ago…… On that beautiful car ride home from that last shoreline fall tour Phish show……Let it be……
We never wanted it to end and in some ways it never did... The Music Never Stopped. I think this was the highest I ever got on Jerry... l recorded the show on tape, and it was the first thing I listened to when I found out he was finally standing on the moon... I played it over and over and just played my guitar along with him...
Fare thee well, Gloria Jones, you'll be sorely missed, and will forever be part of the JGB soundtrack of our lives. We are grateful to Jerry Garcia for bringing us your sweet soulful harmonies. Rest in sweet peace you SHINING STAR! You're singing with Jer again!
Jerry had his demons as a lot of us have had or do. tell ya what the fact that he played as amazing as he did and toured continuesly...dam give the man a lot of credit.MISS THE HELL OUT OF THOSE DAYS. Great music , times and experiences.started listening at 13 and at 51 still can get enough and still get goose bumps at times listening to his music. Anyway thanks Jerry you are soo deeply missed and cherised.
He kept on touring outside of the Dead because he needed the money to feed his addiction, and John Kahn wasn't the best influence. Don't get me wrong, I love JGB and JGAB, but even guys like Phil, Mickey, and Bobby have said they wished he took more breaks to get healthy. This performance is utterly brilliant though, nonetheless.
That’s not true!! The man loved what he did, it’s as simple as that. True about Kahn but we’ve all got a friend like John Kahn. Most likely as in my case, he’s your best friend and not for the reason you suggested and rightfully so but because as great friends do, they shared music, ideas and addictions and many other things. But to say that JGB was touring so Jerry could “get that cash to feed that jones” is absurd! If anything and by no means am I suggesting anything other than he did it because he lived to do it . For himself and for all of us . But the freedom that he had when playing under his initials as a band . There a true happiness to him when on stage playing songs like TLEO, Mission, Tore up and TOUGH MAMA! I know you know what I’m talking about. The smiles that Jerry wore on any given night with Melvin and John and his two favorite sisters in crime are some of my best memories of him. God I loved that man and everything he did for us all and I thank him everyday
Agree 150 percent.....I have been listening to this show and specifically song from it for the last 24 hours and haven’t stopped yet...it’s magical in every sense of the word and add a beautiful sunrise and or sunset and each of us begins to realize what and how a simple man like jerry can go so deep and share his grace and love for mankind now for eternity and also allow each and everyone of us listening in person that night or years and or even more years later.....to be the best human we can also be and for all of us as a collective whole or a mix and match of the most beautiful individual parts.....the shining stars jerry and his amazing band had in mine for all of us to discover on our end... Happy tears, love so divine, purpose, joy, bliss and more....how can we really and truly ever completely say thank you....we don’t even have to and he’s not worried either.....he just wants all of us to keep listening and keep reaching for our own shining stars that knows and still believes are all around us each and every day.....I’m still gonna say it though anyway.... If you havn't already, go dig the Shining Star from Hampton 91. And the rest of that show. Same show almost from 2 years earlier. Also incredibly beautiful, but different enough to check it all out. Especially the "C'e La Vie" and "Wonderful World".. really the whole show. I think it was my favorite S.Star at that Hampton 91. Really that whole Fall 91 and a good bit of those shows on UA-cam. Not greatest video but some worthwhile video and lots of great audio. Then you can float on that cloud a little longer.
i come in here every year on this day just to watch this video--have a little cry, clap and sing along. Gawd bless all you bootleggers and tapers. A broken angel sang/from his guitar. TKU JRY
Warms my heart to know Jerry can live, if just for 25 minutes, again, channeling his best, in the hearts and spirits of those who hear, feel, know, and love his Spirit. We are all messengers of Jerry. Keep the vibe alive...
Jerry was a very generous portal to Love and Light and Truth. No real thing is always pretty. Some of the deepest times are dark and painful. But Jerry could take us through the heart wrenching times until we were once again standing in a shaft of Light. Somewhere on a back porch in July allowing myself to fully feel the music is my blueprint for walking through Life. Such an amazing Teacher Jerry is. Never was Forward never straight. Such Love and Gratitude into eternity 🧡🩵💛💜
I went to a couple world class Art schools way back when and learned an incredible amount about the mechanic's of making stuff, it was Jerry though who taught me what it is to create Art. Into my 50's and never stopped the Art, never had a 'creative block', a simple Thank you Jerry just doesn't seem to cut it. This whole tour was beyond belief, Thanx Mike D.! Never would of happened for me w/out ya, You of course Rock!
I was there. Came from PA no ticket. The ticket office opened for 10min at the top of the hour all afternoon. $9 general admission - changed my life. I walked in 2hrs early went right up to the wall directly in front of Jerry. The whole time I felt like someone was going to tell me I couldn’t be there. Then the lights dimmed. Oh to hear more music from the stage than the PA. It was nuts. Crazy insane.
Thanks man for this vid, took a ride out from Illinois with my girlfriend and 2 friends to catch this and the Richmond show. Was on the floor toward the back loving the shit out it all!!! Miss those days...alot!!
Good god i really miss Jerry!! I treasure my memories of the shows i saw when i was just beginning to learn bass and guitar... His phrasing tone and feel ... So soulful
There's no doubt we. All miss Jerry, badly, every day! And I would never wish the horrors of addictions on anyone. But if this effect is what heron causes in some particular susceptible kinds of people, then we should encourage more musical roles and choices in rehabs.
Not sure how many shows I have been to. From Metallica to rusted root and so on. But the dead and jgb have to be my favorites. Maybe Allman brothers or umphreis mcgee shit I loved them all but dead shows still stand alone as something special. From around 87 to 92 best damn time of my life. The last year was sad though watching him get noticeably slower etc ah hell I will shut up now. Smoke a hooter and give someone a 😃.
In this version of Shining Star, the Yamaha DX7 ROM-2B patch “Electric Piano-Brass BC” without the brass part turned on similar to the Yamaha DX7 internal patch “Electric Piano 1” was heard.
Does one have to be high to see this? All I see and hear is some dude going off on a solo while the rest of the band just sorta claps along and ponders where they made the wrong decision in their lives.
@@devtrash Dude, if you can't see how magical this is get your soul checked. why were the two best versions of this most incredibly beautiful song done two years apart in Hampton, VA?
Because Hampton always had so much love for Jerry
jerry was super ahead of his time with the whammy pedal right here
+mrfish4lyfe is that was he's using at 10 minutes? sounds awesome
+Sean Sklenar yes almost certain a digitech whammy ii. the last few years he explored the options on this pedal ALOT
