- Trying to revive an old Honda ATC 125 motor and transplant it into a CT90 to make a trail 125. The original 90cc engine was in fine shape, but I couldn't resist giving this a try.
Having your son help you like that is awesome. It's how I learned how to make a living. RIP Dad, I miss the hell outta ya.

OUTSTANDING edit! - As someone else who spends HUGE amounts of time editing my videos; I can (and DO) TRULY appreciate all the cutaways etc and how ridiculously LONG the process IS to make such videos! - Great pacing; sure beats sitting through hours waiting for the person to do it step by step!
Loved the project. I'm 37 and have no mechanical skill but I am so inspired by this that I want to start a hobby of buying broke down bikes and learning to fix them. Thanks for your videos and personality.
This video is hysterical! I started watching it because the first motorcycle that I ever rode all by myself was my fathers 1976 Honda Trail 90. The setting was an empty fig orchard in Fresno California, the bike was a Sultry Honda Red Color, I was 10 years old, but boy was I ever, " King of the World" on that thing.
Love this stuff! Custom valve spring compression tool... priceless! I've been tinkering for 40 years and have never seen anyone as creative as you. Definitely need to add a welder to my toolshed. You need your own show!

My friends' dad has one of these that he bought new. I've heard so many stories of how indestructable and unstoppable that thing is. It's never been rebuilt, and it can still take a large rider, or two smaller riders, anywhere you want to go. Through mud, streams, and up steep hills; nothing stops it.
In 1965, In installed a Powroll Big Bore Kit in my own CT90. It used a piston from the Honda CB250 twin and gave 103cc's to my 86.7cc stock Honda 90 engine. It produced a quite noticeable increase in low-end torque, but excessive vibration reduced max RPM, so there was probably a DEcrease in maximum horsepower. It still was a very cool bike to have, and I wish I could find that old girl. Thanks for a very enjoyable video.

Every time I see a Honda 90,it reminds me of my preteen days. My older brother helped me get one for ten dollars. Which may have well been ten million for a poor boy in the sticks. Sadly it blew up before I got to take my first ride, and no money to fix it Working in the fields didn't come close for the parts. great replacement swap of the engine . I have owned bikes since then,but still would like to ride one.

I just got a CT90 and honestly I was just gonna fix it up as is. BUT since I'm also in school for welding/fab.... I know exactly what I'm doing for the rest of my life. Thanks for the inspiration

I had an old Honda Trail 90 when I was a young kid, It also had a bent intake valve. Grandpa put it in his lathe, indicated it in off the stem and banged it with a lead hammer until she was good enough. I put it back together and she fired right up and ran for several more years. Good memories!
Just rewatching some old videos. I hope all is well with you and your family. The Ct90 is still one of my favorite project.
Great video and what a good engineer you are. Nice to see someone resurrecting the old Hondas. I bought a brand new 1965 CB160 while stationed in Hawaii in the USN. I drove that baby 28,000 miles on the island of Oahu and then had it shipped to Seattle where I picked it up after discharge. I then drove it to San Diego, across the deserts of the American West, and home to Ohio. That bike performed flawlessly and even got me up Pike's Peak (with some leaner carb jets). It was the trip of a lifetime and to this day I still buy Honda bikes, mowers, generators, and cars. Not one has disappointed.

Thank you. I have made some life choices that are a little unconventional, but I don't think of them as sacrifices. Every decision involves benefits and compromises. I feel like the ones I've made have a lot more positive aspects than negative ones, so I think I'm doing ok.
@@jenniesgarage Just discovered your channel.. was considering the ATC125 for my ct. It's now been 7 yrs, probably long gone but any thoughts about the upgrade.. I'm on the fence.. was it a worthwhile swap, or would you recommend rebuilding the 90.. 🤔
Thank goodness for your little helper. It made it a lot easier to get that engine mounted with his help. Reminds me of when I was his age and help my Dad work on his boat. Such great memories.

Super cool machine. The Chinese 125 engines are not too bad, the metallurgy and tolerances are pretty good these days. CDI ignition too. Good luck with this groovy trike!

I just purchased 1967 trail 90. He really had it listed for $2,200. I purchased it for $1,400. Brake light does not work headlight is not very bright, horn is not very loud. it does over 40 it's. The yellow filter was not mounted. run so far terrific. Need to get a helmet now, I am excited to start investing

I was actually thinking about doing this same thing. I have a Trail 90, bad engine, and a few ATC 125's, but man, after watching this, I think I'll stick to getting my barn find 350X to run. Lot of work brother, but came about AMAZING! Your perseverance is contagious!

Did a modded '76' model trail 90 with my boss not long ago for a charity ride. Mod list included ct125 triple clamps, ct125 forks, ct125 21" front wheel, ct125 swing arm, xl185 18" rear wheel, longer travel rear shocks, and a Lifan 150cc engine with 30mm oko carb and takegowa performance exhaust. There are a few other lesser mods as well. Many people ask why would you bother but they don't get that, like any customising, when you do the work yourself the journey is the reward and you end up with something cool and unique at the end.
Great so much better than watching commercialised programs hopefully u get picked up by non commercial tv and keep making same quality videos

I once took an ATC110 (105cc) auto clutch and built a 185cc 12.5 compression bored and stroked Manual clutch monster, I bought a rear suspended frame, some triple clamps and made a really cool fully suspended ATC when they did not exist (early 1080's) I added a CT110 clutch and kickstarter. (lol u had to pull off the rear fender to kickstart). I love these old Hondas

love the vids man. i got a 1979 ct90 handed down to me from my grandfather going for my motorcycle permit in 2 weeks cant wait to get it insured and on the road! I have a decent amount of experience riding in the dirt but i have never road a motorcycle on the road ct90 seems like a nice bike to start out on

Those old 90 engines was amazing just had one flaw the battery ,fuse and wiring. It would not run off its own magneto I remember having to use foil to wrap the fuse stuck miles out in the woods. The 70, 90 and 110 all had this problem wiring harnesses in many cases had to be replaced. I will finish the series this 125 may have a better electrics system fixing that flaw. All these old honda engines was amazing my old honda 50 still runs had it for 30 years. As a kid would run it out of oil put more in watch it steam and then it would fire up again! never let an 8 year maintain a bike lol A top end rebuild and it still runs like new any of these old engines is worth their weight in gold for any project.

I was an apprentice mechanic in 1990, and did a few very simple engineering style jobs after that, but I have not retained the skills or confidence. I would be calling people every two minutes and asking how best to do such and such.

I did this swap back in the 80s, not only did I swap out the Engine but the trans, from a 3 speed auto to a 4 speed manual...
