  • In this video, Wilson explains the process of HOW TO INSTALL SOLAR PANELS. He shares step-by-step how he installed six 200 watt solar panels on top of our fifth wheel. Find the supplies needed in the links below.
We are a family of 4 who loves to travel. In 2019, we bought a 30 ft. travel trailer and decided to make our dreams happen by getting out on the road. Since then, we have upgraded to a 39' Fifth Wheel Mid-Bunkhouse and a 2018 Ford F-350 Diesel and are loving the upgrade for our family. We have always LOVED traveling and now seeing our world on the road has given us opportunities to see and make more memories as a family. We are teachers and are blessed to have the same "vacation" schedule, so we make the most of it with our kids by being both weekend warriors and by "school schedule" traveling--We call ourselves summer-timers. We hope to share what we learn while exploring this beautiful world around us and inspire you to get out and see it too.

Wow, thats amazing! Great job and thanks for the video! Id love to do this but Im apprehensive. I have one panel on my RV now, but Id like to upgrade it. Knowing what kind of inverter I need and batteries is something I have no idea about.

Thanks guys! I learned all I need to through a few websites and some how to videos along with some trial and error. It also depends on what you want to do to what system you need. If you want to talk about it sometime, shoot me an email and I’ll send my cell # and we can chat about it. It also depends on how much you want to spend, which was our limiting factor. Thanks for taking the time to comment ~Wilson & Kelli

Hi there, nice video. Here is a question for you. Can I use a 4s lithium battery in my trailer instead of a regular led acid battery? In other words can I Use a 14.8V battery instead a 12V battery? Thanks

Thanks! So we switched from lead acid to lithium with this install but the key component, for your question, will be your converter/charger. Some newer rvs have a lithium ready converter/charger on board. Ours did not so I added a Victron Multiplus II to use as an inverter/charger. You can can change out the simple converter easily if you need to without buying a more expensive inverter but it all depends on what your goal is. Thanks for watching! ~Wilson

Not an expert here but that breaker switch installed between solar panales and Charge controller is usually rated for 48V or under.

My system should not run above 20-22volts max so it should be okay. 1 year after the install it’s working beautifully. Thanks for watching! Wilson

brilliant install but what bugs me why don't they make elevated bars that can Mount to the mounting brackets that hold the solar panels to the roof to hold the wires off the roof so crap doesn't build up around them you could use aluminium u channel upside down it took the wires then it would look neat and wildlife or the weather will damage them

Hey Mike, they make the mounting system but I decided not to go with it. Good idea about the channel, I may go back and do something like that. We just got back from a 9000 mile journey and the tape held up well. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. ~Wilson

Watching what you did on the roof didn't work very well with the camera so far away. Good explanation.

Be careful when you say you won't ever have that voltage or amps. The stated specs are at 77° f so you can over produce at lower temperatures

That's true, I should not say never but it is very unlikely in our situation. Thanks, Wilson
