Turns out my enemy is: hustle culture. The tireless energetic drain it imposes, the false dreams it dangles over peoples heads to keep them coming back, the false promise of better, the overworking, the sacrificed health and rest and time in leisure & play with loved ones, the way people dedicate their lives to being of service to the workforce only to spend much of their retirement in and out of hospital or even worse, 6 feet under without the chance to enjoy their “free” time.

That happened to me in my old job a few months back. Led by a ringleader who was the queen of gossip, she turned everyone against me. She and I used to be « friends » or so I thought, and even went on holiday together once and I was very friendly with everyone else. They excluded me and stopped talking to me and then got others to think I was the one isolating myself from ALL of them. They were all older than me in their 40s. I didn’t react. Karma came when I was contacted for a new position in a more prestigious company in the same industry, with a higher pay. They were all flabbergasted when I quit. I did not give them the time of day and don’t intend to if I run into them ever again. And yes the ringleader was basically jealous of me, even though I wasn’t giving her anything to be jealous about and just being myself. She was talking about me behind my back, even to our boss and that isolation thing is the only thing that came up in my improvement areas during the quarterly evaluation lol that lady could say nothing bad about my job and was between a rock and a hard place when I quit 🤷🏾‍♀️ your enemies will make you stronger so thanks to them, my favourite haters 😘

Good video, but keep in mind the enemy is a narrative device. It's a trick of the manipulator to convince you that you are afraid of something. In a story the enemy is just an embodiment of the weakness of the protagonist. The Stoic/Buddhist practice is to deal with an enemy, but not let them change who you are or what you do. Being too focused on an enemy gives that negative person a degree of control over your life. Not good. I had a horrible boss who wasn't even that good at back stabbing. One day I had the idea, instead of fighting his war -- and becoming like him -- I will, every week do something amazing. I'm sure Taylor Swift had a moment like that because she's the very definition of amazing.
But I'm not a fan. I'm an old guy still listening to Joni Mitchell. No problem. I have deep respect for the community Swift's built with her fans. Until this video I didn't know how critical to her narrative were the mean girls, but instinctively I did. So well Done Taylor Swift. Mostly what I get from her is she's a woman with a notebook writing poetry, struggling with the things all women struggle with. Her challenge is as it is to all of us, with herself.
But we all have some chip on our shoulder from past ill treatment. I'm almost 70 - it's still there. Almost everyday there's at least the echo of 'Oh yeah, I'll show them....' But I use it to push myself forward. Even if I had the chance I wouldn't seek out those who've wounded me and rub their noses in it. I wouldn't do that to anyone. It's cruel and a waste of time. Leo Koetke the guitarist song writer has a piece, "I guess I owe it all to Pamela Brown" because she fell in love with a guy who had a pick up truck, instead of him. His disappointment and jealousy went into his music.
Just having the thought, what amazing thing am I going to do this week? Gets me motivated and gets something done.
The downside? When any of us change for the better in some remarkable or different way, often the people in our lives who are used to us being a certain way can feel angry, hostile to the new changes. Often they reject us. We've upset the family, community, group....

The ego loves its identity, it makes it seem alive. Hate and demonisation is how we define our ego and compartmentalise our love. Soon enough we conflate ourselves with it. But increasing self awareness and awareness of what you dislike and like can be very helpful especially compared to staying ignorant of the ego or even worse demonising it. All these good and bad value judgements are ends to means and as long as we have a body and live in a dualistic world it can’t be bypassed. I guess understanding your intentions and keep being aware of where you’re coming from is what matters.

As if pressing it 20 times makes it think there's a crowd of people so it needs to change quicker. But no, pressing it once sends a signal that someone is waiting. Pressing it more than once does nothing. In cities they're usually fake and literally do nothing at all. Number 3 people tend to seek out information that confirms what they already believe. Number 4 people will do more to avoid a loss then to pursue a gain. It looks like Taylor's handlers have carefully crafted her identity so that it triggers all of these unconscious biases. The internet algorithm's have mastered this too. They have a myriad of ways to exploit and amplify these biases. It's like the inventors of these algorithms have stated. "We can't resist our own creation"

It's not just the enemy, it's something adversarial preventing a like minded group from advancing, and this is a slam dunk sell because typically all eyes are on the gold medalist, but the gold medalist does not do a disproportionately larger amount of common good than silver and below, let alone silver and below unified to a common goal. Almost all of the work done to any end is done by silver and below, not the sole gold medalist, and it is very easy to ply the resentment for never getting recognition that everyone else has because well, if we're being honest about the output, they deserve more of the gratitude, not less. When the amount of attention shifts toward the top dog too much, it is like a rubber band stretched tight, and it can snap or fly back the other way at a moments notice.

Had this moment today in Uni. Saw my ex, hated on her in secret with my new classmates that I know for ½ week (so not really a deep bond) and a girl that didn't even know me, they started hating on her too, for no fucking reason, and we instantly all bonded by being evil together.

So glad that I have found you and this super insightful video! I approached a lot of branding for my design clients with only the hero part being the main focus but never really saw the potential in an “enemy” or how I would phrase it: The one thing you want to change in the world more than anything because you have likely felt the negative impact. „Be the change you want to see in the world“ (by Ghandi) never gets old!
Love your perspective and style - deserves more than a thumbs up ✨

If you watched Grease then in the midst of over sexualized pink ladies Taylor is the goody two shoes Sandy, and all the girls hate that. She’s only considered cool now because people underestimated her “kid” audience and how their loyalty helped her become the most successful. And money makes you the coolest.

So far you've had two genius intuitions regarding social influence, but I was wondering if you had any insights on how to build real self-worth and self-esteem, and by that I mean self-assuredness, the kind of “inner resilience” that's not tied to external validation, which I identify as a “state of being”.
I ask this because self-assuredness is perceived by others by aura/energy alone. If I act social and confident, people are still gonna instinctively detect the low self-worth underneath. For example, there's this girl I know who has admitted to being reclusive in her teens but after working on herself she's social, outspoken and has made many friends. There is one issue though: despite her social and assertive demeanor, I can sorta feel on an instinctual level that she has zero self-worth, so she still has worked on the external but still hasn't done the inner working.
I've been wondering for quite some time on how to achieve that self-assuredness that in turn changes also your aura that people still perceive, but I'm kinda stuck. I know that self-assuredness comes from an inner acceptance of who you are paired with an inner knowing of your worth regardless of external standards, but see, I “know it” rationally, but not in my heart, therefore it does nothing to achieve that change of aura that everyone can detect. How you do start to truly feel self-assured on a deeper level? How do you make it click?
