+Aktuell Russland (RussiaGood) Someone's retarded for using a system feature? I love how you throw in the "who cares about streaming" bit to try to discredit a feature. Also if you didn't know Windows 10 Xbox One Streaming and Steam In-Home Streaming (which does the same thing on PC) have done great numbers and have had an huge adapt rate to to them so yes, a lot of people care about streaming.
Likea Spoon its ok, but the outright hypocrisy in the reviews is fucking laughable. if any other game company shipped a game as buggy as bethesda does the internet would have there head on a pike
7:53 So does the Wii U, we got stuff like Mario Maker, Splatoon, Captain Toad,, The Wonderful 101, and you could also put Bayonetta 2 and Xenoblade X in this category. Also NX won't be 8th gen. It just won't, its too late for that, 2016 is 9th gen. Also last edit 11:45 Wii U is still fighting in Japan, some weeks Wii U still out sells PS4, some weeks they are evem, and the Wii U still has a pretty large lead
AdamKoralik true, but this feels like it will be a short generation, and normally, no console maker has 2 systems in a generation. Plus Nintendo will probably market it as a "next gen" system. (Next gen being the actual next, or 9th gen, and not this, or 8th, gen
+GoldenTriforce Traditionally, no. But there are plenty of examples of that. SNK released the Neo Geo AES and Neo Geo CD in the same generation. Atari released the 2600 and 5200 in the same generation. Sega released the SG-1000 and Master System in the same generation. While it's unconventional, don't be surprised if Nintendo is the first company since SNK to do that. Unless it's apparent that the NX blows away the PS4 and XBox One from a technical stand point, don't be surprised if it ends up being considered an 8th gen console.
Again, it is possible, but a cd add on is an ADD ON, not a console. And the technology of a console does not define if its generation, but its release date and how the manufacturer portrays/markets it.
XB1 and PS4 don't have identities like previous eras of consoles. They are more alike than they are different and are basically multimedia boxes. I am getting addicted to digital downloads though, I don't have to deal with clutter in my house or anymore midnight releases lol.
+TheLWebb100 Exactly how I feel about it. Both of them don't have exclusives that appeal to me. When it comes to third party single player games, if it's on PC I'll get that version. If it's a multiplayer game, I'll get it on the Xbox One version as that's what all my friends own. Regarding digital copies, I love 'em. Much more convenient and personally, all the games I want physical are ones I'm nostalgic for. Modern games don't have the emotional value to them to warrant a physical purchase from me. As for the Wii U, admittedly I don't own many games for it, and I'm not in a position to judge it yet. I feel like the slight advantage PS4 has over Xbox is the indie front. The Wii U has good indie support, but I'd rather get those on PC (unless they're exclusive). Overall, I don't really lean towards any console right now, and I just buy the games that I want to play with my friends. But the real winner for me is the 3DS. I've put a shit ton of hours and money into it.
+TheLWebb100 Yes they are more alike than ever. The games we play were intended to USE the BLU-ray drive they were engineered to perform with. The old school disks run faster because lasers can still load faster. Until the future when consoles become more like actual PCs, I recommend not buying digital downloaded games. That XBOX 1 HAS a blu-ray drive so use the blu-ray as it was intended.
I know in my case, I chose the PS4 over the Xbone because all my friends bought the PS4. That was the only reason for me. However, I've been very pleasantly surprised with the PS4! It runs well, it's got good games, and the controller is actually kickass. Overall, it's a very good console.
i think you are wrong on the exclusives subject, sony does not have a ton of exclusives but more than microsoft: ps4: - infamous ss - killzone sf - disgaea 5 - bloodborne - driveclub - knack - the order - until dawn xbo: -forza 5 -forza 6 - halo 5 - powerstar golf - sunset overdrive only counting real exclusives, not including platform/console/timed/generation exclusives.
ok, had to pause the vid at 7:00, to say that was a freakin' fantastic rant on competition etc. stopped again at 21:54 to say.. well, this has been the most coherent, insightful, lucid description of the problems with this generation of consoles i've ever listened to. great work. if i could have the heads of industry watch one video, it would be this one.
My only hope is that, after the servers are shut down for 7th and 8th gen, there will still be a way to download patches from the Internet. Hopefully tech-savvy people will upload them so everyone can use them. Heck, even nowadays there are still ways to get the original Xbox DLCs. So I hope that trend continues.
I doubt that we'll get homebrew on the PS4/XBOne, and no homebrew = no modifications = no backups that work. So this gen? It'll die quickly. It'll die and will become far more quickly forgotten. People won't talk about it, it'll be forgotten. Not entirely, but far quicker than any other generations before. Emulation keeps the older consoles alive far longer. (๑•́︿•̀๑) eh, this gen was mostly boring as fuck. (*´∇`*)
+ThePreciseClimber Online servers will be shut down, but I think you'll be able to download game patches on the internet and just install via USB to your console.
+dizzy zane They'll be hacked eventually, just like the 360 and the PS3 currently are. Probably won't be easy, but the few who'll bother to mod their consoles will act as a minority who is able to preserve every single game and DLC in original hardware, at least.
+ThePreciseClimber Although it'd be cumbersome to put together, I don't see why Microsoft or Sony wouldn't have a page listing the last updates for all of their games. (Not all the updates, just a compilation of the final states of the game.)
+Demon Rantz I agree to an extent. I always felt like you get what you pay for. Updates and fixes always seemed faster on XBL and PSN updates always seemed fewer and further between. Seemed the same with parties and switching from single player and online multiplayer, I always felt like it was a chore on PlayStation. Maybe I was just more accustomed to the Xbox Live way of interacting.
I prefer the xbox one because the external hdd support. I have many games and I like to have all installed, read to play. So the internal 2tb hdd on Ps4 is small for me.
Another way the PS5 may end up going is a system designed to run games in 4K, and include that new Ultra-HD Blu-Ray drive in the system. That might depend on whether that format tanks or not by the time Sony is gearing up to release their next console.
I'm sorry but if pcs can barely run 4k the ps5 ain't running it if it gets released in the next 4 years maybe by then cheaper pcs will handle it which is also a doubt in my mind
Imagine if older movies never got rereleases on newer storage formats. Imagine if bluray players couldn't play dvds, so you needed both a bluray player and a dvd player to watch movies from the past 15 years. And in order to watch movies from before 2000, you also needed to have a VCR set up.
+Steve Hutch That's one of the big points in my opinion with backwards compatibility. We won't see Microsoft focusing their efforts on remasters and they can focus their studios more on new content since that old content will be available to consumers via backwards compat.
+MandarinDuq just saiyin guys, the PC really doesn't have this problem due to it being one unified definitive system, also we can use console emulators so you don't have to moan to Sony about it
I've always held a certain grudge against the PlayStation, since they're partially (I'm not saying fully) responsible for Sega's death. If the PlayStation hadn't come a long, Sega could have made the Saturn much easier to program for, and they could have marketed it much better outside of Japan. They then manipulated the magazines, consumers and retailers to endorse their glorified DVD player, the PS2, instead of the far superior but format disadvantaged Dreamcast. I'm not saying they're the reason Sega failed, they made a bunch of mistakes in their own company - that would be like telling off Nintendo for killing Atari - but Sony definitely didn't help them, and like Adam said, really had no business going into video games.
These videos are really fun to watch again years later, I can't believe I'm feeling nostalgic for early 8th gen stuff! (Mostly 2013/2014 not so much 2015 or later yet.)
Actually the ps4 has a ton of exclusives but they're mostly japanese games which are GOOD games that honestly a lot of people overlook because they're dumb or ignorant. It's too bad that japanese games are niche because people are missing out on some really good games.
You are a content monster Adam. So many youtubers make content for the sake of it but your channel goes above and beyond when it comes to quality. Thanks for doing what you do.
I'd be fine with the next gen of consoles being all digital if: 1. download speeds increase in the next few years 2. games get steam-like discounts, and/or cost less up front
+FilmStrife People need to understand that "Steam-like" discounts happen because they currently have competition. Namely, the console market, and especially the used market. Once it's all digital, you're perpetually at the mercy of your digital overlords to control prices. Without competition, they have no reason to give you a good deal.
+AdamKoralik this right there! We can kiss the idea of actually owning our games goodbye if cloud gaming ever becomes the dominant form of gaming. Also, at least here in rural Germany, broadband internet means 5Mbps down max...don't see myself streaming 1080p60fps content over such a connection anytime soon. Still, I'm sure digital only gaming will be the future, but I'm not sure I want to be a part of it. Now, back to Fallout 4 :-)
+RubberDucky I don't see steam going under but if it does all I really have to do is search for the patches on the internet Pcs aren't closed platforms like consoles
The only time I see steam going under is if when Gabe retires which I don't see that happening for 10 to 20 years and the next Ceo Fucks up Valve but if that doesn't happen I can buy gta 5 in 2025 on steam and still have every patch
Good video. I think it be cool to see you bring back the games segment for future ps5 n series x coverage videos where you show games you recently gotten and briefly talk about them I think it's a entertaining part of the video and shows us what your current library is and what your playing on the system.
I actually had no idea that every Ps3 was backwards compatible with the PS1. That actually gives mine more use now (despite me having the soft modded Ps2 slim for that), which is awesome especially given the graphical upgrade. The entire lack of exclusives is what is driving me away from the Playstation 4. I like the Playstation consoles and the experiences they have given me, but games are the selling point. Always have been, and always will be. If it is not offering me something that I cannot get on the PC which will play much better and not cost me a fucking subscription fee for online multiplayer, then I refuse to buy it. I have friends who own it and would want me to get it so we could play together, but that is *not* enough for me to justify the purchase (not making the same mistake I did with the 360). The fact that they are shrugging off exclusives is going to hurt them in the long run. They are only ahead because Microsoft fucked up (and to an extent Nintendo) and that will not last forever, like you said.
+treeghettox Well there was never any articles that stated you couldn't. It'd even possible to put a PS1 disc game in a PS3, and Remote Play it from across the planet with PSP and Vita.
Sony should really step it up when it comes to exclusives. They could start by localizing the Yakuza games on ps4, they are easily some of the best exclusives on ps4. I hope Yakuza 5 does well enough to get a chance to see this happen.
+I Sir Laughsalot I used to feel the same way when I started watching his videos, but nowadays it just gets me in the gaming talk mood. idk how to explain it
i'm surprized that you did that ps4 upgrade, is there any chance you could be a few pc hardware videos to show your workstation and how much of a hardware enthusiast you are? also if the NX only had digital but had timed refunds, game trading and giving to friends, and all the things you can easily do with a physical copy of a game but you need a internet connection to do it, do you think you would still use the NX? Another possibility is games being put on to a read-only memory stick or flash drive which one of the pre-built small form factor pc's have but for software.
+adamhouse9999 I would be highly unqualified, and frankly uninterested, in making PC related videos. No, I would not support the NX if that was the case. If the console is useless without an internet connection, I am not interested.
i meant requiring an internet connection for doing trading, selling, etc, like how you need a internet connection to connect to the eshop's servers or playstation now servers
10~ : Adam, ofc there will be a PS5. i really dont know why you argue against that. havent the gamers shown clearly what they love? dedicated hardware for the hadrdcore gamers...remember the sony sony chanting 2 years ago at e3? thats because gamers doesnt want a streaming device. internet is still too shitty for that. basicly ps5 will be here in like 3-4y, 5 at worst. you really dont see this coming?
AdamKoralik no Adam. you just have to see that MS tried to pull that off only 2y ago and people hated it. also the whole feminism bubble bursted and its clear that people value their games (i dont mean harrassment. but that people are against nepotism and wrong journalism and the review sites and the publishers are too close to each other. i think developers and artists need the freedom to express what they want to do. you can clearly see this with the character Mika R in Sf5 and some other recent examples i forgot right now). all this shows very clearly that people have some standards. you could say we gamers are conservative. and as long as that there will be consoles. also doomsaying is nothing knew. years ago people said PC is dead...crpgs are dead...indies are dead...and look at our current landscape. so yes, i really am convinced that we will have many more consoles to follow. heck, even valve is trying now to emulate consoles with their steam machines....consoles were never stronger than now Adam. in germany its hard to get sometimes 16 Mbit dsl depending where you live. nope, not believing in any streaming setboxes at all.
AdamKoralik well, one day that will happen. im simply not seeing it anytime soon. it will happen because people are comfortable and lazy. you could say we have it even now. bought the witcher 3 yesterday, had to download 17,9 gb patch on ps4... i would still differenciate digital only vs. ps5.
I recall in an earlier post about the PS4 you mentioned having to swap in and out your different PS4 hard drives to ensure in the future you'll be able to keep the game data along with any software updates provided assuming they become unavailable. How do you keep track of what games are on what drive (I'm somewhat unorganized at times and can imagine I'd forget what games are on what drive), how do you organize them?
For me this gen has been a huge disappointment. I'm really not liking where gaming is going. I was never into PC gaming because consoles had a quirkiness that the PC did not. Thats all gone now. As you said in this video its all about do I want my multiplat at 1080p 30fps or 900p 30 fps? My fingers are crossed that the NX can be something special. Screw that noise I'll take it at 1080p 60fps than you very much. While I have a PS4 its strictly for its exclusives (or lack thereof). Multiplats are on the PC. Now I know you are all about physical media, as am I, and luckily all triple A multiplats get a physical release on the PC. Prior I was like you Adam, adverse to the PC but at this point with the way consoles behave in installing the entire game on an HDD, whats the difference between this and PC? There is none. These consoles are trying so had to be like a PC but with none of the benefits. Your rant about external hdd support, what you want you can have - the dark side has cookies you know. Now I'm not telling you you are wrong for dismissing the PC what I am saying is at this point, its tomato tomahto. Except one of the tomatoes is starting to grow some mold on it, eat at your own risk =p
haha! you read my MIND! I just subbed(before) and saw the 1-year later. PS4 vid and you mentioned a few things they changed/fixed, which made me laugh a little, really hoping you could update it....and BAM. Nice. Love your stance on Exclusive, I hate it when people say exclusives suck, this follows your stance Competition, I too find it a very very VERY important thing, I'm used game buyer...kinda like you, but not a collector, I just like saving money. If there was no competition, price drops would have more to do with age rather then one upping the competition. Again like you said it, Competition does drive creativity to one-up the rival. Great points, odd to just pick those in a PS4 video, but its nice when someone agrees with you, especially a UA-camr.
new smbu looks better on wiiu super mario maker looks better on wii u super mario 3d world looks better on wii u mario kart 8 looks looks better on wii u yoshi wooly world looks better on wii u super smash bros looks better on wii u bayonetta 2 looks better on wii u hyrule warriors looks better on wiiu kirby and the rainbow curse looks better on wii u donkey kong tropical freeze looks better on wii u how the hell is the wii u not selling better? because of bad marketing? go out and buy a fucking wii u, all of you, right now.
+keven therrien The Wii U isn't doing as well it because of the goddamn wii and its "fan" base of "non-gamers". I don't hate it as much as Adam, but I'm not a fan of wii. But I too, thought the Wii U was just another Wii when it came out. Boy, was I wrong! I've since bought myself a Wii U and a bunch of games and love them. Go out and buy Wii U, people! It's better than the Wii, and better than it looks!
I'll be honest, a lot of those games don't interest me because it's a lot of Mario and platformers. Platformers bore me to hell a lot of the time since there's no challenge. The only notable games you have on there are smash (a game available on 3DS as well), Bayonetta 2 (most likely will get a PS4 and Xbox one port in the future) and that's pretty much it.
If I remember correctly SSD drive is also made from flash memory e.g. same material as your USB stick which sometimes has been well known to go off randomly for no reason at all.
Also, broadband availability will always be a problem for streaming game (or go all digital download). For now, I think that the future console should still use local hardware.
Great video Adam! I think the PS4 did well despite the current state of the console market from both a PR and business perspective. However, I still don't understand why I own one currently, except OBV for Shenmue 3, 4, 5 +.
Here's my question: If the full game files, not needing a internet connection after download, are on a local storage device, isn't it still technically a physical media?
Question: if the NX sells physical cards that you buy from stores and then you put it into your console. it then downloads a digital version. Would you still get it adam?
If you put it in and it made a digital then would you be able to redownload or would you need the card to play again? If you don't then people will buy the game and just give it to all their friends and nintendo will die out fast
Only thing I have to say about the Back to the Future recommendation is that you don't need to have watched the movies to enjoy it. The game was my first experience with the films, and while some of the jokes went over my head I still enjoyed it. (Plus, for a time-traveler story, does it really matter what order you see things? :P )
Hi Adam, what about digital foundry's review on ps2 emulation on ps4 with trophy support? The patent was seen quite a while ago and has come to fruition now. Could be a game changer!???
+G Aston Jandu Man, people are really blowing that out of proportion, I did a video on this if you're interested: ua-cam.com/video/9KBavPbtwrc/v-deo.html
HI Adam, thanks for the link. Have fallen behind on your videos so doing a massive catchup! Your so right, its not backward compatibility, but its interesting that this patent from a few years ago has become something..maybe with the starwars games emulated could be a 'test the waters' for backward compatibility or as you said, incentive to buy digital downloads of ps2 games..do you think if this becomes big in whatever shape or form it takes, it can rival xbox one backwards compatibility?
AdamKoralik witch 1tb ssd are you using? I'm trying to upgrade to 1tb ssd but, I want your recommendation I'm guessing it's a Samsung but witch one? I see people using pro and evo what is the difference? and also what is the difference between 840 and 850 numbers? thank you
Hey Adam, I'd like to eventually put a 2 or 3 TB SSD hard drive on my original 500 GB PS4 but I don't wanna loose P.T. (Playable Teaser for Silent Hills). Unfortunately this digital game won't allow to be re-downloaded once deleted from the console. Do you know how to fix this issue?
+arioca Welcome to the future, this is why I protest digital games. The good news is, I THINK you can keep it if you use that backup feature the PS4 provides. But I'm not 100% sure.
+AdamKoralik Yeah this is the first digital game that doesn't allow to be re-dowloaded from your history (as far as I know) due to copyright reasons with the cancellation of Silent Hills. I prefer physical media as well, but aren't you concerned about not being able to eventually play all the disc based consoles? So far I had issues with my TurboDuo, CD-I, original Xbox, Xbox 360 and PS3 where the optical laser lens stop reading discs and it's getting increasingly harder to find parts to fix some of the older systems. We need to have all the disc based consoles with USB ISOs support like the 3DO USB Adapter and the Dreamcast USB-GDROM projects.
Hey Adam I've been wondering for a long time. For the Xbox One backwards compatibility can you plop your old disk versions of the game in the Xbox One and work?
+TheHackedMac If they're compatible, yes. But it doesn't read the disc for gameplay. It basically detects the game, then downloads it from the internet. Just uses the disc as a CD unlock key basically.
I don't have a current generation of consoles yet and I was wondering which one you think is the best to get. I'm really thinking about getting the wii u because I really love Mario games and am really looking forward to playing super Mario maker and do you think that's the one that's got the most fun games for playing alone and offline.
Wii U Master Race represent! Haha, hard to believe that the PS4 and XBone are already 2 years old. And it's even harder to believe that the Wii U will turn 3 this week! I've got a feeling you're gonna have a looooot to say about it, Adam.
You make a whole lot of sense and I really mean that. But I am curious though, how do you explain Black Ops 3 selling more units on the Xbox1 rather than the PS4?
Wait, can you use the 360 version on your actual 360? That may persuade me to get XBone games even though I don't even own the console. Also, sony could probably do PS2 compatibility (for DVD games at least), but can the PS4 even read CD's? That could be a problem if Sony wants to do PS1 and PS2 compatibility (some PS2 games were on CD, they were the purple games).
+RRW You mean the Fallout 3 key that comes with Fallout 4? I would assume so. Probably best to redeem it on the 360 though, to be safe. But I don't know for sure.
AdamKoralik Yeah, I just didn't even know about the free 360 game thing until you mentioned it. I don't know if there are any games out now that I'd want, but it sounds like something useful in the futre. I can get a game for my 360 and if I get an XBone in the future, I'll already have a game for it.
+RRW Actually, if you have XBox Live Gold you can already do that. Each month with the Games With Gold program they will advertise free digital 360 games, as well as XBox One games. You can tell your 360 to download the XBox One games too. When you eventually get an XBox One, they'll be there waiting for you. That is if you have XBox Live Gold, and care about digital games.
AdamKoralik I know you get free games, I'll have to think about that. I've never had enough of a reason to get XBL gold. I really don't use multiplayer and there haven't been ay free games that really made me say I really need it. As for if I care about digital games, I've accepted the fact that I may loose the game forever, and am willing to take the risk. I completely understand people like you though who don't like the idea (at least for consoles, PC's are different IMO for other reasons).
+AdamKoralik Like I said Sony sells 25M units but exclusives can't sell 5M copies that's terrible Sony has 25M units out there social media talks crap about Nintendo Wii U but for a console who has 12M units sold manages to sell 5M+copies of there own games that's half now that's impressive. best selling games for the PS4 and XB1 are CoD, GTA, Madden FiFA soccer,Destiny not even MGS5 sold 5M copies... people bought the PS4 console for it's Blu-ray player like the PS2
Wow thanks didn't expect such a quick reply. And btw I love your chanel and all your videos. I wish you the best and keep up your awesome work:-) Greetings from your fan from Greece:-)
+AdamKoralik Going to work and playing video games like everyone else.;-) loving all my consoles and my games so far(ps4,xboxone,psvita,3ds) As for the rest of Greece it's gonna take a while for them to recover from their crisis related problems... aaand again games for the people :-)
Another solid reason that I think you left out is , what do most of your friends have ? As for me , all my friends have xbox's so ill go with that .. Extremely important
The other thing that bugs me with the ps4 is the fact that my dl connection is limited to 50mb now this won't effect many people but when u are on a 200mb connection I want to be able to use it like i can with my XBONE
You hit the nail on the head. The external storage problem bugs the piss out of me and is the only reason I get jealous over not have a xbone. I might eventually get a xbone just for that reason alone. I'm with you. I want to be able to pop in the last of us 15 or 20 years from now and not have to worry about re downloading it to a 20 year old hard drive and hope I can still play it. I'm all about collecting and playing retro games and this problem will be a huge pain in the ass for any serious gamer down the road. You couldn't have said it better.
Slightly off subject do you think Microsoft and Sony will release bigger hard drive consoles than 1tb? I've been holding back from upgrading hard drive and or getting the 1tb versions.
By 2020 you will be able to download console patches either by companies themselves or via share file websites on your PC. There will be a huge market for it, so someone will respond to the demand.
I think you miss a huge proponent into what factors help you decide on what platform to get the multiplats on, and that is what your friends play on. I have a PC and a xboxone, and I like my pc more then my xbox but I buy most of my multiplats on xbox cause thats what all my friends have and is what they buy the game for. People who dont play online games always miss this point, and then find it strange when people buy a version of the game on the "lesser" platform. Oh great video by the way
I have an Ubisoft programmer in my Japanese class and we talk about games, of courses lol. But he told me basically that console and PCs are just the same (apart from boosting graphics obviously) and the diversity is essentially gone and that nowadays ports are basically PC games just rolled out for PS4 and XBox1. As an old school gamer, I remember when consoles and PCs were content driven. For example platformers, sports game, fighting game, etc where for consoles whereas PCs had adventure games with point and click adventure games and afterward the whole FMV genre. This is also why love to play games on the Wii U and didn't pick up a ps4 or Xbox1 yet.
i understand that you are worried but I dont see the patch thing being as big of an issue as people make it out to be. Im sure in the future people will have all those patches backed up on some website that you can download and transfer to you ps4 by flash drive.
I agree ...I really hope we get some external drive support..its just plain stupid that we don't have it already its almost 2016 and it doesn't let you use a external drive..ugh..
Just take out your SSD, hook it via a USB adapter to your Mac, load up Disk Utility and create a disk image of the SSD and save it to a cheapo non-SSD (regular HDD) drive. Then if ever you need the patches, you can recreate your SSD. And in 10 years there will be way cheaper SSD too.
+AdamKoralik sourceforge.net/projects/win32diskimager/ should work So Take out PS4 drive Connect to PC via USB adapter Connect another larger USB HDD (or have a larger internal HDD drive) Take an image of the SSD drive and save image to HDD Keep the HDD safe and if SSD ever breaks -- or you ever want to "rewind" to the date you took the disk image -- just restore the image from HDD to SSD If you do bit level imaging should work perfectly. Not tested myself personally but I am a developer who does this sort of thing all the time and there is zero reason technology wise this shouldn't work. Anyone here ever tried it?
+mattbattprod The process could theoretically work, though one key issue is that, from what I recall, the PS4 tends to reset as soon as the harddrive is removed. So, turning it off, taking it out, cloning it, putting it back in, and powering it up again may not exactly work.
The main problem is the PS4 Controller has that touch pad and there's no where to map those slide controls If I wanted to use a different controller on PS4.
The SSD can't access full read/write speeds on the ps4. Digital foundry posted a video about drive speeds on the ps4. SSDs definitely help with game load speeds, but for that price, you're better off with a larger drive than a drive that loads data alittle faster. a 2tb drive (just bought it a few weeks ago) cost $100. a 1tb ssd, based on what you bought anyways, was $400. Load speeds between the two are night and day, but not worth the $300 extra you're paying. Just my opinion though.
So this is what happened with GT5? Servers down and you can not download even free cars like the C7 Stingray. What does the Anniversary edition contain? On disk dlc or codes that I can not use cause the servers no more?
looking back after all these years, I can't believe how amazing the PS4 has been, sucks there was no ps1 classic support a since I can play all those on my PS3, PSP, and PS Vita and transfer the saves between systems easily so it would of been nice PS4 could do that but overall God of War, The Last Guardian, The Last of Us remastered and Part II, Final Fintasy VII, LittleBigPlanet 3, Until Dawn, Dreams, Days Gone, Detroit: Become Human, Shadow of The Colossus, Uncharted 4, Ratchet and Clank, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Killzone: Shadow Fall, The MLB Games, Gravity Rush 2, and so many awesome VR Games like the VR mode in RE7, Astrobot, Ironman VR, Wipeout VR, The Last Guardian VR Free mode, No Man Sky VR, and Skyrim VR, so many amazing expriences this gen and some of my favorite franchises came back hard this gen like Resident evil, Devil May Cry, Monster Hunter, Street Fighter, Crash, and Gran Turismo!
Own all 3 consoles and Xbox is my choice because of the external drives and being able to stream to my PC if somebody is using the TV
You can do the same with the vita or PlayStation TV streaming ps4 to them
+Aktuell Russland (RussiaGood) yeah but now Xbox1 has also win10 so it will be like having 1 OS for all
***** are you dumb?
+Aktuell Russland (RussiaGood) Someone's retarded for using a system feature? I love how you throw in the "who cares about streaming" bit to try to discredit a feature. Also if you didn't know Windows 10 Xbox One Streaming and Steam In-Home Streaming (which does the same thing on PC) have done great numbers and have had an huge adapt rate to to them so yes, a lot of people care about streaming.
itsLivee you can buy a 20 meter HDMI and USB cable from amazon
I bought a PS4 a couple days ago. I only have Fallout 4 at the moment.
+Galaxy Cop bloodborne is a must buy
I believe it. I liked Dark Souls.
+Galaxy Cop If you can find it cheap Infamous Second Son is alright.
+Galaxy Cop Are you enjoying fallout? I'm loving that game man :)
+GoldenTriforce That's highly debatable. Some consoles in the fourth generation we spaced apart by 7 years.
+GoldenTriforce The Neo Geo CD is a stand alone console dude, I think you're thinking of the Sega CD.
I'm happy with my PS4, seriously hoping there will be another generation with the PS5. Just hoping they hold off the digital for now.
Great video man, I love seeing when you upload a new video in my feed
+TheTasteOfInk05 Thanks!
Thanks Adam. Your [Console]- X Years Later videos are my favorite!
+GarretSlarrity Thanks!
i think you are wrong on the exclusives subject, sony does not have a ton of exclusives but more than microsoft:
ps4:
- infamous ss
- killzone sf
- disgaea 5
- bloodborne
- driveclub
- knack
- the order
- until dawn
xbo:
-forza 5
-forza 6
- halo 5
- powerstar golf
- sunset overdrive
only counting real exclusives, not including platform/console/timed/generation exclusives.
+TNH853 In terms of AAA exclusives, Xbox has more.
+I Sir Laughsalot Actually, no they don't.
+I Sir Laughsalot PS4 has WAAY more.
some of those are mixed on quality.i.e. knack, the order
Pac Fan Exactly the same with stuff like 'Powerstar Golf'
ok, had to pause the vid at 7:00, to say that was a freakin' fantastic rant on competition etc.
stopped again at 21:54 to say.. well, this has been the most coherent, insightful, lucid description of the problems with this generation of consoles i've ever listened to. great work. if i could have the heads of industry watch one video, it would be this one.
+shenmueso Thanks bud.
I feel the same but my console of choice is the xb1, I have all three consoles and the wii u makes me happiest, great video Adam always a great watch.
+Victor “Bigsexy” Oliveira Thanks for watching!
Another great and interesting video Adam!
+2milesFROMnormal Thanks!
(๑•́︿•̀๑)
eh, this gen was mostly boring as fuck.
+ThePreciseClimber That's what I'm worried about too.. :(
+ThePreciseClimber Although it'd be cumbersome to put together, I don't see why Microsoft or Sony wouldn't have a page listing the last updates for all of their games. (Not all the updates, just a compilation of the final states of the game.)
I feel like it boils down to what console do most of your friends own
I'm the reverse. Use the Xbox for everything, PS4 just for exclusives, for the reasons you mentioned really.
Same here. The Xbox Live community is my community of choice. All of my multiplatform games are on Xbox One or 360 and so are my friends. Done deal.
Same here. The Xbox Live community is my community of choice. All of my multiplatform games are on Xbox One or 360 and so are my friends. Done deal.
+AtariBorn I know you have to pay now but I preferred PSN on PS3 because it was free.
+junta21st That's a very stupid statement. There are a lot of people who prefer Xbox Live and lots that don't own PS4.
I really cannot see Sony going all digital with PS5... They would be fools if they did.
I have PS4 and PC, sadly nothing outstanding has come out on PS4 yet. Most of the time I'm on PC these days.
Love your videos man, can't believe you do these in one take, very articulate and concise. Well done!
+Justin Barnett Thanks!
I don't understand all the hype with backwards compatibility.
I want to play new games, and want Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo to focus on new content.
Imagine if older movies never got rereleases on newer storage formats. Imagine if bluray players couldn't play dvds, so you needed both a bluray player and a dvd player to watch movies from the past 15 years. And in order to watch movies from before 2000, you also needed to have a VCR set up.
+STNKbone yeah imagine saving the Blu Ray player for the next 40 years??
+STNKbone Fair point I guess. It's just not an issue for me.
I can't wait for 2020's look back!
if the next gen is all digital as you suspect, will you be done with new videogames? or will you begrudgingly download games and/or switch to PC
+SirGeeeO I'll stick to previous generations when that happens.
+nibunker
I'd be fine with the next gen of consoles being all digital if:
1. download speeds increase in the next few years
2. games get steam-like discounts, and/or cost less up front
+FilmStrife People need to understand that "Steam-like" discounts happen because they currently have competition. Namely, the console market, and especially the used market.
Once it's all digital, you're perpetually at the mercy of your digital overlords to control prices. Without competition, they have no reason to give you a good deal.
AdamKoralik good point
+AdamKoralik You should do a video on this man, I am new to buying digital games market.
Now, back to Fallout 4 :-)
having good download doesnt mean nothing if their servers suck. i have 350mbps down and it still takes me a while to download something off psn.
I'm with you on the wiiu actually having games that excited me where as the ps4 is the console of choice for everything else.
The patches problem really is a very stupid thing... Makes the games like flowers that go bad over time...
Not for PC doe
BootlessDynamic Especially on pc...
BootlessDynamic Someday steam WILL end, you WILL also lose games as technology gets more advaned.
I really been liking your channel i like how you point out flaws and the big problems like lack of storage for all the game and patches.
Thanks!
Xbox 360 had GEARS OF WAR... besides Halo.
How did you miss the PS1 Classics range on PSN
+treeghettox Well there was never any articles that stated you couldn't.
It'd even possible to put a PS1 disc game in a PS3, and Remote Play it from across the planet with PSP and Vita.
+treeghettox Oops, UA-cam glitched on me. Remote Play was a novel idea in 7th gen, but was really transformed in the 8th gen.
Sony should really step it up when it comes to exclusives. They could start by localizing the Yakuza games on ps4, they are easily some of the best exclusives on ps4. I hope Yakuza 5 does well enough to get a chance to see this happen.
Bruh.......you need to change your intro.
***** It's dated and not reflective of his current videos.
why? it's recognizable and nostalgic
+adamhouse9999 I would never support that, no.
+Akaji Blubb You really don't see how it's possible to go the other way?
+Akaji Blubb I'm aware, I made videos protesting their actions.
Do you disagree with the assessment that an all digital future is inevitable?
AdamKoralik well, one day that will happen. im simply not seeing it anytime soon. it will happen because people are comfortable and lazy. you could say we have it even now. bought the witcher 3 yesterday, had to download 17,9 gb patch on ps4...
i would still differenciate digital only vs. ps5.
+Akaji Blubb So, essentially, we agree. We only differ on when we think this will happen.
I recall in an earlier post about the PS4 you mentioned having to swap in and out your different PS4 hard drives to ensure in the future you'll be able to keep the game data along with any software updates provided assuming they become unavailable. How do you keep track of what games are on what drive (I'm somewhat unorganized at times and can imagine I'd forget what games are on what drive), how do you organize them?
bloodborne is the f*ck yes exclusive.
Yeah Bloodborne is a masterpiece. Bloodborne rivals Rise of the Tomb Raider for best exclusive of the year.
+ZuEssenWas Probably the only one though as of right now. The only one coming soon that will be a "I need it now!" exclusive is Horizon.
Haha yea thanks Adam I've been looking forward to these videos this month!!! Glad you're dong it
For me this gen has been a huge disappointment.
+Zubin HV Thanks dude.
new smbu looks better on wiiu
super mario maker looks better on wii u
super mario 3d world looks better on wii u
mario kart 8 looks looks better on wii u
yoshi wooly world looks better on wii u
super smash bros looks better on wii u
bayonetta 2 looks better on wii u
hyrule warriors looks better on wiiu
kirby and the rainbow curse looks better on wii u
donkey kong tropical freeze looks better on wii u
how the hell is the wii u not selling better?
because of bad marketing?
go out and buy a fucking wii u, all of you, right now.
I can't argue with that logic...
Also the fact the wii u has a severe lack of 3rd party support due to them being ignorant with there hardware
If I remember correctly SSD drive is also made from flash memory e.g. same material as your USB stick which sometimes has been well known to go off randomly for no reason at all.
+ExperimentalPhantom Personally haven't had that experience, yet.
Great video as always, Adam! :-)
Looking forward to your video on the Xbox One and the Wii U (also my favorite 8th gen console)
+Thomas Lorentzen Thanks!
Adam, can you do a vid on how to swap the PS4 HDD for an SSD? Including backing up & restoring data and such?
+Lord Immortallix There's already a ton of videos about that.
+James Reiner Thanks James.
Here's my question: If the full game files, not needing a internet connection after download, are on a local storage device, isn't it still technically a physical media?
+Orange Peel As it's completely stored on a harddrive, no, it's the antithesis of physical media.
Question: if the NX sells physical cards that you buy from stores and then you put it into your console. it then downloads a digital version. Would you still get it adam?
+kool cuzzie If the console is useless without an internet connection, no.
If you put it in and it made a digital then would you be able to redownload or would you need the card to play again? If you don't then people will buy the game and just give it to all their friends and nintendo will die out fast
Did you have to do any warranty voiding modding to swap out for the 1TB drive? Or was it easy to replace, like it would be in a PC?
+Eric Smith No, it doesn't void any warranties.
What about the Nyko Data Bank? I heard it helps with the ehole memory thing.
+Yade132 No it doesn't. It just makes replacing the internal harddrive cheaper.
You made a bunch of valid points here. Your passion for gaming keeps me watching.
+herohunter81 Thanks!
Adam what do you think of the nyco data bank? I switched to xbox because I have a 5tb drive hooked up with all 102 of my games on it.
+GMAN VIDS I find that device to be essentially useless.
Only thing I have to say about the Back to the Future recommendation is that you don't need to have watched the movies to enjoy it. The game was my first experience with the films, and while some of the jokes went over my head I still enjoyed it.
(Plus, for a time-traveler story, does it really matter what order you see things? :P )
by the way Adam, I need an n64 expansion pack, do you know where I could get one cheap? not third party though
cant you backup all games to an external drive? I know you can backup your games, but I dont know if that includes game updates.
+Rival GT Not in the way you're thinking.
If the game is still sold as a digital game in ten years I'm sure the patches will still be up... right??? 17:00 timecode
would it be possible to do a video on how to open up a PS4 and replace the hard drive? would LOVE a ssd
+Snow Giffin There's tons of videos about how to do that on UA-cam actually.
I see people using pro and evo what is the difference? and also what is the difference between 840 and 850 numbers? thank you
What's the name of the ssd you put in your ps4 to make the load times better?
Adam have you picked up fo4 yet?
+The Sky God Bethesda sent my other channel a copy. But as one of my cohorts on that channel is a Fallout super-fan, he ended up keeping it.
+AdamKoralik
It looks like you're calling Bethesda "Sky God" there.
I know they're beloved n all but yeesh. :D
AdamKoralik Ahhh thank you for the clarification
Interesting series, looking forward to the XB1, one. =)
Nice vid bro, although imo I think we over-estimate online streaming. You can't beat good old offline play.
You make a whole lot of sense and I really mean that. But I am curious though, how do you explain Black Ops 3 selling more units on the Xbox1 rather than the PS4?
+Berlin B I don't have one, I didn't even know that. If I had to guess, maybe people figure that XBox Live is more stable than PSN.
Wow, your response time is amazing. Thanks.
+Berlin B No problem.
Very good and informative video. Although very sad to know the future coming.
+Guns7469 Thanks for watching!
Hard to believe the PS4 has been out for 2 years already. My gosh time has flown. Great video buddy!
+Stevie G Thanks.
+AdamKoralik Like I said Sony sells 25M units but exclusives can't sell 5M copies that's terrible Sony has 25M units out there social media talks crap about Nintendo Wii U but for a console who has 12M units sold manages to sell 5M+copies of there own games that's half now that's impressive. best selling games for the PS4 and XB1 are CoD, GTA, Madden FiFA soccer,Destiny not even MGS5 sold 5M copies... people bought the PS4 console for it's Blu-ray player like the PS2
will you make a video for your opinion on ps4 ps2 emulation?
+mike nanas ua-cam.com/video/9KBavPbtwrc/v-deo.html
Wow thanks didn't expect such a quick reply.
And btw I love your chanel and all your videos.
I wish you the best and keep up your awesome work:-)
Greetings from your fan from Greece:-)
+mike nanas Thanks, greetings from the US!
How are you guys doing over there now?
+AdamKoralik Going to work and playing video games like everyone else.;-)
loving all my consoles and my games so far(ps4,xboxone,psvita,3ds)
As for the rest of Greece it's gonna take a while for them to recover from their crisis related problems...
aaand again games for the people :-)
I remember picking up a PS3 super slim about a year ago just for the Ratchet & Clank series, Last of Us, and the Uncharted games.
Another solid reason that I think you left out is , what do most of your friends have ? As for me , all my friends have xbox's so ill go with that .. Extremely important
+Aaron Villalobos That is true.
The other thing that bugs me with the ps4 is the fact that my dl connection is limited to 50mb now this won't effect many people but when u are on a 200mb connection I want to be able to use it like i can with my XBONE
Why are the Powerstone games so expensive?
I thoroughly enjoy your videos and pray that one day you can afford a better microphone.
+blueboy 524 Thanks!
I love the little rant about markets and competition :)
hey,Adam did you get the alienware console?
+Linn Rooney No, I don't support digital gaming.
Right on !was thinking about it but idk.really want it for a pc hooked up to my tv ya know.
Oh great video by the way
+Drew Fisher That is definitely true. I mentioned it last year, didn't really feel the need to restate it.
oh cool thanks for the reply.
+NickD25 Agreed.
What controller do you like best ps4 or Xbox one
i understand that you are worried but I dont see the patch thing being as big of an issue as people make it out to be. Im sure in the future people will have all those patches backed up on some website that you can download and transfer to you ps4 by flash drive.
Get on that bro squarespace that shit right away. Start backing up ps3 and 360 patches and updates now while there is still servers.
+mattbattprod I do not own a Mac sir.
+AdamKoralik sourceforge.net/projects/win32diskimager/ should work
So
Take out PS4 drive
Connect to PC via USB adapter
Connect another larger USB HDD (or have a larger internal HDD drive)
Take an image of the SSD drive and save image to HDD
Keep the HDD safe and if SSD ever breaks -- or you ever want to "rewind" to the date you took the disk image -- just restore the image from HDD to SSD
If you do bit level imaging should work perfectly.
So, turning it off, taking it out, cloning it, putting it back in, and powering it up again may not exactly work.
why not buy one of those crossfire adapters? that way you can use the ps4 controller on xbox360 Xbox one, ps3 and PC?
yeah they are really cheap. they are practically giving them away.
Which is better console Xbox one or ps 4 really need to know I'm bit confuse
So this is what happened with GT5? Servers down and you can not download even free cars like the C7 Stingray. What does the Anniversary edition contain? On disk dlc or codes that I can not use cause the servers no more?
+AdamZZ-17th I don't know anything about Gran Turismo 5, so I can't comment on thhat.
AdamKoralik
Honestly I do not know much either, just read that the multiplayer servers were shut down.
+AdamZZ-17th Wouldn't surprise me.
what ssd hard drive did you use in your ps4?
+lovpohh www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00OBRFFAS?keywords=ssd%20samsung&qid=1447614759&ref_=sr_1_6&sr=8-6
Some excellent points. The exclusives that aren't on Steam, price drop, and ability to use external space are exactly why I chose the XBox One.
I know it wasn't out yet when you did the video so you didn't talked about it, but do you think Uncharted 4 is a solid purchase for the ps4
Adam explain me i buy ps4 install game on hardrive i beat game and sell this game will running from hard drive forever or not
+alfonso King ...What?
Did you ever pick up Tearaway Unfolded? Because if not, then I wholeheartedly recommend it. It kicks ass!
looking back after all these years, I can't believe how amazing the PS4 has been, sucks there was no ps1 classic support a since I can play all those on my PS3, PSP, and PS Vita and transfer the saves between systems easily so it would of been nice PS4 could do that but overall God of War, The Last Guardian, The Last of Us remastered and Part II, Final Fintasy VII, LittleBigPlanet 3, Until Dawn, Dreams, Days Gone, Detroit: Become Human, Shadow of The Colossus, Uncharted 4, Ratchet and Clank, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Killzone: Shadow Fall, The MLB Games, Gravity Rush 2, and so many awesome VR Games like the VR mode in RE7, Astrobot, Ironman VR, Wipeout VR, The Last Guardian VR Free mode, No Man Sky VR, and Skyrim VR, so many amazing expriences this gen and some of my favorite franchises came back hard this gen like Resident evil, Devil May Cry, Monster Hunter, Street Fighter, Crash, and Gran Turismo!
