Agree with your reason for predicting the next Playstation will likely be a disc based. The first time I went to Japan approaching 20 years ago now I was surprised by the lack of computers in the home even then (while at the same time their cellular phones were way in advance to what we had in North America at the time). It was quite a shock to me at the time, not what I had expected, and as you pointed out things haven't changed much in that time.
My ps4 has been an expensive blueray player for the last few years. I have played some of the ps2 classics titles and some ps1 games they remastered. Using my pc and classic consoles more at the moment.
Damn 4 years. Dat could easily be a entire (on the shorter side but still) gaming generation. Wonder how long will this one last. Interesting if it last as long as the 7th one with these new mid gen updates.
Glad you touched on the japan subject. Not many people realize that Japan has a lack of computers and IT infrastructure. I've been importing cars from japan for 10yrs now and I would always chuckle that that only postal mail,faxing and bank wires are the norm. Faxing is more common than emailing in japan. But, like you said it would be counter-productive for them to go all digital when the home front itself is still in a way analog driven.
Aside from the New 3DS, the DSi also had some exclusive software for it, it was a kind of a "mid-generation refresh" as well. This was my year to jump into PS4. I bought a Slim in March, when they did a 24h flash sale on the Switch release day, dropping the price to 199€. I haven't played on it enormously (started a new job and all), but it's a nice piece of hardware. The only PS4 game I've actually finished is Lego Marvel Superheroes :-)
Does anyone know the limitations of the PS4's optical drive? I don't own a PS4 yet, but I remember hearing that it couldn't play musicCD's. The only reason I could think of why that was is because the optical drive can't read CD's. If that is the case, PS1 compatibility is out of the question and a fair few PS2 games won't work either. Also, I can't wait for the -memorial service- Birthday video on the wiiU!
I agree with you on the PS4 pro analysis. I am one of those pissed off gamers and I still think the PS4 pro was an ugly thing to do for all those people who bought the PS4 at launch. Now we are starting to see games, such as GT Sport, where if you dont have a PS4 pro you have drops in frame rates during gameplay. This frankly is fine on PC, but on console is total crap.
I still think the PS4 Pro is a good deal. Sold my Original PS4 and bought the Pro for 160 Dollar. It's worth it so far for me after getting a 4K TV last summer. Even worth it before cause of the better FPS. 1 month ago i got the Switch (first Nintendo Console for me in 9 Years) and love it also. This combination PS4 + Nintendo Switch is by far the best combination this generation.

PS5 will definitely be an interesting console, from a hardware standpoint I'm betting it will definitely be X86 based again & be using AMD's Ryzen architecture, most likely a newer refreshed version of it, like a refreshed R7 1700 8 core 16 thread CPU, double the amount of RAM as the Xbox One X, still using GDDR5 with more memory bandwidth than the Xbox One X, and a AMD GPU based on Navi which is suppose to be a cluster of smaller efficient GPU's that interconnect through AMD's infinite fabric, hope that makes sense :)
I don't know what you think they should do for the PS5. It will be only like a new Pro Upgrade. It would be stupid for Sony at this point to go to an different architecture to destroy everything the build up with the PS4 in terms of "easy to develop for". They would also destroy native backwards compatibility. It's more like an Smartphone Upgrade System now, the PS5 will be an upgrade like in smartphones from iPhone 6 to iPhone 7. It will be a bigger upgrade from PS4 Pro to 5 then PS4 to PS4 Pro but it will still be just an upgrade. Consoles nowadays are nothing more then a computer customized with an customized Linux OS.

Adam Koralik it's definitely niche just cos of the extra hassle and set up and obvs the fact a lot of people get motion sickness then never wanna go back to it (a marketing problem, people should be schooled in how to develop their 'VR legs') but I definitely think it's gonna persist as a worthwhile side endeavour. God I hope so, higher resolutions, better tracking etc its gonna get ridonkulous pretty fast.
Thank god for Microsoft and Nintendo. They don't always make smart decisisions but at least they take risks and make gaming exciting. If we were just stuck with Sony the whole gaming market would be so dull. But you are right. They certainly give the mass market what it wants and plays it safe and consistent.
The problem with PS4 Pro is that not all games support it, half the games you have to manually fuck with system settings to change things, and it even makes some games worse. I'm vastly happier with the Xbox One X which, so far, only a very few games have issues with the forced v-sync, though personally I prefer that to lots of torn frames. And so the PS4 becomes the Persona machine. *For perspective I bought both day one, and owned a used both base models regularly.

+Ioannis Stf Software wise yes, but not physically. Drives that fit, other than SSDs, aren't really made in the right size. Unless something has changed very recently. I did a lot of looking into this when I was configuring the Pro.
+Ioannis Stf Oh there are, the 2.5 inch part isn't the problem. It's the MM thickness. Other than SSDs, I am yet to see one of compatible thickness above 2 TB.
It wouldn't have to run natively it could just be emulated like on the 80GB PS3 I believe wasn't native it was emulated so it would still allow you to physically put a PS2 or PS1 disc in the console it would read the disc but then was emulated wasn't physically processed like it would on a PS2 the 60GB PS3 did but not the 80GB so some PS2 discs wouldn't work on the 80GB PS3.
Four years later and I still have not have a PS4. Not do I want one. There is still nothing that is compelling to me on console that I can't play on my gaming PC. It's sad for me because I have been a fan of the PlayStation brand ever since I first played the original PlayStation at a friend's house on Halloween night 1995. I was such a fan of theirs that I paid over a grand for an import Japanese PS2 with a few games one week after the Japanese launch back in March 2000. Then bought a domestic US PS2 console just 8 months later. Then again got a launch US PS3 (20GB version). But with PS4, nothing has impressed me. I was underwhelmed by the introduction conferences. To me it's just a underpowered bottlenecked x86 architecture PC with some platform exclusive 1st party games that I have no to little interest in playing. VR makes me sick so that's not enjoyable. However, I'm still waiting for that exclusive game(s) that interest me and I can't play on my PC or other console than the PS4.
Also Mark Cerny already stated, more than once, that Sony will not produce another "PlayStation hardware upgrade". Sony clearly stated that they will continue with the generational leap. So apparently PS4 Pro has been one off. Microsoft, on the other hand, wants to do exactly the opposite. Xbox hardware upgrades (like mobile phones companies do).

I was never impressed with this generation of consoles. The step up over PS3 and xbox 360 just isn't there. My wish is that instead of these half step consoles like the Pro and Xbone X, the companies just throw in the towel, it's been 4 years, time to say our bad and lets see the next generation.
That's not the point I was making. I was referring to the perception inside the industry as of now, or prior to the XBox One X release that is. Essentially, the Xbox One is the console that just gets the benefits of other consoles when it comes to development. Most games are developed for and distributed on PC and PS4. Xbox One versions exists because they have to. Nintendo entities are a different thing though.
Xbox One is the only console I've ever sold during its current generation. I had a sweet white one too :( Not enough games and the few good games there are (Forza/Halo) I can play on my PC now.

the Wii was a fad, that sold a lot but had very little longevity. the switch sucks... nintendo underproduces it to make it hard to get, which then builds demand. it barely has any decent games.. and only one game that I would want to play, Breath of the Wild.
Sam Sheth you should probably look at the Switch library again. It has lots of good games. Any console that doesn't EA support definitely gets my vote.
Sam Sheth The Switch is hot right now and has the two highest rated games of the entire generation. It's library is great and is going to get even better. Fad or not the fact still remains that the Wii won the 7th generation.

Having Microsoft and Nintendo succeed and start to threaten Sony’s ”console monopoly” would be great. If they did then we would see some more aggresive plays from them. Basically capitalism 101.
The only console I got this generation is the XBOX one , and I only got that from a deal on ebay with about 9 games with it and I am glad I did not pay full price .This generation just seems like a big disapointment.
It's fairly obvious why alot of players turned to the ps4. When the xbox one was announced with all it's drm features , always being connected. It scared alot of 360 owners from jumping next gen with microsoft. I had 6 friends , never owned a ps2 or ps3 , they had an original xbox and a 360. All them decided to buy a ps4 after that e3 xb1 announcement . Microsoft shot themselves very hard in the foot and even though they did reverse alot of policies it was far too late. Whereas Sony was like hey guys we made the ps4 for gaming and for the gamers. Sounded far more enticing to the " gamer"
Gotta appreciate it when a youtuber isn't biased as hell and doesn't try to throw console war shit in your face. In other news, the Xbox One X has really surprised me. I figured it was going to be a PS Pro but just -slightly- better with no real baseline improvements other than maybe vsync, but seeing general performance increases across the board, resolutions hitting actual 4k during gameplay (some games even go beyond with their resolution scaling like Titanfall 2) the X is a welcome addition, but at this point how would the Xbox 2 (or whatever the name) be made? The X is 500$ and every new console generation the hardware is supposed to improve by quite a bit. In that case Sony has much more wiggle room whereas if Xbox releases a normal 300$ console that's only (slightly) more powerful than the X then people will be pissed because they wasted an extra 200$, but if they release one marginally more powerful at a higher price then that means the baseline cost of "next gen consoles" will be raised (at least on Microsofts side), which will ALSO piss people off....it will be interesting..... TL;DR-Bring back attachments like the N64 ram thing (at that point you're a pc but whatev)
I don't think Sony will allow PS4 Pro exclusive games and I don't think many developers will want to anyway. Games these days scale very easily across many game consoles and PCs. The PS4 Pro isn't that much better than the stock PS4. They both share the same CPU, the Pro is just clocked marginally faster and the GPU was buffed up. When Sony kills off the PS4, they are probably going to kill off the Pro with it, in favor of the PS5.
I enjoy my psvr and a pro in my living room and my bedroom has my og ps4 outside of a few seconds longer in load times, the VR works just as smooth in my own experiences on the og ps4 as it does on the pro. I really don't understand this concept that the ps4 is much better, not to mention with dual ps3 eyes u can use the psvr as a steam VR and really isn't all that bad.
I do like the PS4 now that I got one this year but I wouldn't say Xbox didn't sell enough to survive given that 35 plus million consoles isn't a failure?? After picking up the Xbox One X and loving it a lot btw... I'm waiting to see the total units sold by end of year. The fact that Sony still can't give you a 4K blueray player or backward compatibility of games you already own versus charging you again is why I've never been behind Sony 100%.

You know why PS4 doing so well this gen cause Microsoft screwed up so badly. When the PS2 launched in 2000 it was just the Dreamcast and the PS2 for a year until Xbox came out so you can say Sony got lucky on how things worked out. Plus what really helping them is Sony has games lots of games Microsoft at the moment not really and if Nintendo can continue to bring great games too the switch they are going to do good as well. It's all about the games my friend.
Hold on, what's wrong with having the PS5 just be a more powerful PS4? Is it the whole "I'm buying essentially the same console twice" thing? Need I remind you that the PS2 was literally just a stronger PS1, and is still the most successful console of all time? If anything, you should be praying to every god you can think of that the PS5 will be a better PS4, because the likelihood of it being backwards compatible increases exponentially, and for the sake of further distinguishing itself from its predecessor, may mean support for the previous generations as well. I highly suggest you reconsider your stance on this matter, because I too wish Sony would play ball with normal backwards compatibility, but the chances of that happening are far lower if they pull a Nintendo, hardware-wise.
I got one 2 months ago. I'm really enjoying the system. The touchpad on the Dualshock 4 seems underutilized.. Adam, do you think the PS4 will have a slightly shorter lifespan than the first 3 PlayStation systems?
Other than the PSP I got 10 years ago, the PS4 will be my first Sony console. When I bought the OG Xbox, I had thought my next console would be the obviously named PS3 (I used to be a console jumper where each generation would be a new brand) but they just didn't have the fun games to warrant getting it over the 360. I played on my roommate's PS3 and found it fun, but also found the technical GUI not as fun to use. One thing though that keeps me a Microsoft supporter (the reason I got the One in the end) was consumer loyalty...making sure old games worked on the current hardware. Sony needs to really work on that for the PS5.
The Last Guardian that you mentioned is actually a perfect example of a game that ran well on PS4 Pro, but not so well on a standard PS4 (from what I've read). I agree with you mostly, although I don't think that the PS5 will be out until slightly later (2021 is my prediction). I am hoping that the PS5 will be fully backwards compatible with the PS4/PS4 Pro.
Wow the PS4 is 4 years old, I remember like yesterday watching the E3 reaval, and seeing that it launched on my birthday ( along with the Xbox brand ) the biggest memory of all is researching Wich console to get and I did for a year on and off and then in Christmas 2014 I choose the PS4..........now 3 years later I know I made the right decision ( I have a xb1 launch model as well and yes I made the right decision ) It's a amazing system to its pure simplicity to it's vastly updated/upgraded controller to the killer exclusive games and next year it seems to keep on getting better with more AAA exclusive games coming to it from the PlayStation Mainstays like God of War and the 3rd party Detroit: become human and big characters like spiderman or even new IP Days Gone The years ahead are the golden years of the PS4, this is when every console tries to go out with a bang and it seems PS4 is well on its way
I want Trophies with Ps2/Ps1 classics, and that cost money to put in. So I don't mind paying. Especially if I don't own the game., but I wan't harder to find games like Rule of Rose and Haunting Grounds. The Ps2 classics available on Psn are a let down, and most are easy to find on ebay or Amazon.
Until 4K gaming becomes the norm (and is cheaper), there is no need for a PS5. I think (no earlier than) Q4 2020 we might get a PS5 with true 4K for $400.
If I could play all my PS2 games on the PS4, it would be a big selling point for myself. Also I can see the PS5 coming out in 2019. These mini upgrades are nearly as bad as microtransactions.

I think the Pro is a dumb idea but I think Microsoft went overboard with their version to the point it’s kind of ridiculous. The Pro is what the launch PS4 should have been, a 1080p 60fps console. durkadur27 The Wii sold the most but when it comes to game sales, it was lower than the competition. Call of Duty most likely has higher numbers on each respectable console over any game sold on the Wii. So inherently the attachment rate is higher on the other platforms despite lower console sales.

Man I had no idea that it didn't read from discs. That's honestly pretty irritating. Though I guess the installation process doesn't require an internet connection. And it probably degrades the disc less. Still, it feels almost like a paperweight, and it means I need to pay more for a better HD when I get one.
Japan's internet/digital culture is rather interesting because they have one of the best internet infrastructures in the world. As an Australian, where we have the worst internet infrastructure for a developed country, it was a whiplash effect using the internet during my Japan trip. But despite our dreadful internet, Australians are very internet savy, more-so than the Japanese it seems. 1 in 3 Australians have a Netflix account. I think our desire for the internet was born out of the fact we were tired of waiting forever for entertainment to be released locally (pirating content or using a VPN to access American streaming) and hated paying twice the price for goods, when we could buy something overseas for half the price via online shopping. Plus towns and people are really spread out, so your nearest game or video store can be 50km away. The internet and digital distribution becomes more appealing. That draw to digital has never really happened in Japan.
I just don't know if I'm losing my passion for gaming or what, I really enjoyed the previous generation but the current on it seems as you said uninspired, I always end up playing my Mega Drive or my NES, I haven't finish so many games that I bought for my PS4, Its missing something I don't know what, Im even thinking that another crash is on the way, I can cite Witcher 3,Raise of the tomb raider and Bloodborne as really great games that I couldn't stop to play, nothing else

I agree, 2017 was a good year, but 2018 with Yakuza 6, God of War, Detroit, Days Gone, Spider-man etc. will be the year of the Playstation.

PS5 will definitely be an interesting console, from a hardware standpoint I'm betting it will definitely be X86 based again & be using AMD's Ryzen architecture, most likely a newer refreshed version of it, like a refreshed R7 1700 8 core 16 thread CPU, double the amount of RAM as the Xbox One X, still using GDDR5 with more memory bandwidth than the Xbox One X, and a AMD GPU based on Navi which is suppose to be a cluster of smaller efficient GPU's that interconnect through AMD's infinite fabric, hope that makes sense :)

I don't know what you think they should do for the PS5. It will be only like a new Pro Upgrade.
It would be stupid for Sony at this point to go to an different architecture to destroy everything the build up with the PS4 in terms of "easy to develop for".
They would also destroy native backwards compatibility.
It's more like an Smartphone Upgrade System now, the PS5 will be an upgrade like in smartphones from iPhone 6 to iPhone 7.
It will be a bigger upgrade from PS4 Pro to 5 then PS4 to PS4 Pro but it will still be just an upgrade. Consoles nowadays are nothing more then a computer customized with an customized Linux OS.

Adam Koralik it's definitely niche just cos of the extra hassle and set up and obvs the fact a lot of people get motion sickness then never wanna go back to it (a marketing problem, people should be schooled in how to develop their 'VR legs') but I definitely think it's gonna persist as a worthwhile side endeavour. God I hope so, higher resolutions, better tracking etc its gonna get ridonkulous pretty fast.
Thank god for Microsoft and Nintendo. They don't always make smart decisisions but at least they take risks and make gaming exciting.

But you are right. They certainly give the mass market what it wants and plays it safe and consistent.
The problem with PS4 Pro is that not all games support it, half the games you have to manually fuck with system settings to change things, and it even makes some games worse.
I'm vastly happier with the Xbox One X which, so far, only a very few games have issues with the forced v-sync, though personally I prefer that to lots of torn frames. And so the PS4 becomes the Persona machine.
*For perspective I bought both day one, and owned a used both base models regularly.

+Ioannis Stf Oh there are, the 2.5 inch part isn't the problem. It's the MM thickness. Other than SSDs, I am yet to see one of compatible thickness above 2 TB.
It wouldn't have to run natively it could just be emulated like on the 80GB PS3 I believe wasn't native it was emulated so it would still allow you to physically put a PS2 or PS1 disc in the console it would read the disc but then was emulated wasn't physically processed like it would on a PS2 the 60GB PS3 did but not the 80GB so some PS2 discs wouldn't work on the 80GB PS3.

Four years later and I still have not have a PS4. Not do I want one. There is still nothing that is compelling to me on console that I can't play on my gaming PC. It's sad for me because I have been a fan of the PlayStation brand ever since I first played the original PlayStation at a friend's house on Halloween night 1995. I was such a fan of theirs that I paid over a grand for an import Japanese PS2 with a few games one week after the Japanese launch back in March 2000. Then bought a domestic US PS2 console just 8 months later. Then again got a launch US PS3 (20GB version). But with PS4, nothing has impressed me. I was underwhelmed by the introduction conferences. To me it's just a underpowered bottlenecked x86 architecture PC with some platform exclusive 1st party games that I have no to little interest in playing. VR makes me sick so that's not enjoyable. However, I'm still waiting for that exclusive game(s) that interest me and I can't play on my PC or other console than the PS4.
Also Mark Cerny already stated, more than once, that Sony will not produce another "PlayStation hardware upgrade".
Sony clearly stated that they will continue with the generational leap. So apparently PS4 Pro has been one off.
Microsoft, on the other hand, wants to do exactly the opposite. Xbox hardware upgrades (like mobile phones companies do).

I was never impressed with this generation of consoles. The step up over PS3 and xbox 360 just isn't there. My wish is that instead of these half step consoles like the Pro and Xbone X, the companies just throw in the towel, it's been 4 years, time to say our bad and lets see the next generation.

I don't think you're quite right about the Xbox One... Selling 30m consoles isn't terrible at all.

I was referring to the perception inside the industry as of now, or prior to the XBox One X release that is. Essentially, the Xbox One is the console that just gets the benefits of other consoles when it comes to development.
Most games are developed for and distributed on PC and PS4. Xbox One versions exists because they have to.
Nintendo entities are a different thing though.

the Wii was a fad, that sold a lot but had very little longevity. the switch sucks... nintendo underproduces it to make it hard to get, which then builds demand. it barely has any decent games.. and only one game that I would want to play, Breath of the Wild.
Sam Sheth you should probably look at the Switch library again. It has lots of good games. Any console that doesn't EA support definitely gets my vote.

Sam Sheth The Switch is hot right now and has the two highest rated games of the entire generation. It's library is great and is going to get even better. Fad or not the fact still remains that the Wii won the 7th generation.

The only console I got this generation is the XBOX one , and I only got that from a deal on ebay with about 9 games with it and I am glad I did not pay full price .This generation just seems like a big disapointment.
It's fairly obvious why alot of players turned to the ps4. When the xbox one was announced with all it's drm features , always being connected. It scared alot of 360 owners from jumping next gen with microsoft. I had 6 friends , never owned a ps2 or ps3 , they had an original xbox and a 360. All them decided to buy a ps4 after that e3 xb1 announcement . Microsoft shot themselves very hard in the foot and even though they did reverse alot of policies it was far too late. Whereas Sony was like hey guys we made the ps4 for gaming and for the gamers. Sounded far more enticing to the " gamer"

In other news, the Xbox One X has really surprised me. I figured it was going to be a PS Pro but just -slightly- better with no real baseline improvements other than maybe vsync, but seeing general performance increases across the board, resolutions hitting actual 4k during gameplay (some games even go beyond with their resolution scaling like Titanfall 2) the X is a welcome addition, but at this point how would the Xbox 2 (or whatever the name) be made? The X is 500$ and every new console generation the hardware is supposed to improve by quite a bit. In that case Sony has much more wiggle room whereas if Xbox releases a normal 300$ console that's only (slightly) more powerful than the X then people will be pissed because they wasted an extra 200$, but if they release one marginally more powerful at a higher price then that means the baseline cost of "next gen consoles" will be raised (at least on Microsofts side), which will ALSO piss people off....it will be interesting.....
TL;DR-Bring back attachments like the N64 ram thing (at that point you're a pc but whatev)

I don't think Sony will allow PS4 Pro exclusive games and I don't think many developers will want to anyway. Games these days scale very easily across many game consoles and PCs. The PS4 Pro isn't that much better than the stock PS4. They both share the same CPU, the Pro is just clocked marginally faster and the GPU was buffed up.
When Sony kills off the PS4, they are probably going to kill off the Pro with it, in favor of the PS5.
I enjoy my psvr and a pro in my living room and my bedroom has my og ps4 outside of a few seconds longer in load times, the VR works just as smooth in my own experiences on the og ps4 as it does on the pro. I really don't understand this concept that the ps4 is much better, not to mention with dual ps3 eyes u can use the psvr as a steam VR and really isn't all that bad.
I do like the PS4 now that I got one this year but I wouldn't say Xbox didn't sell enough to survive given that 35 plus million consoles isn't a failure?? After picking up the Xbox One X and loving it a lot btw... I'm waiting to see the total units sold by end of year. The fact that Sony still can't give you a 4K blueray player or backward compatibility of games you already own versus charging you again is why I've never been behind Sony 100%.

You know why PS4 doing so well this gen cause Microsoft screwed up so badly. When the PS2 launched in 2000 it was just the Dreamcast and the PS2 for a year until Xbox came out so you can say Sony got lucky on how things worked out. Plus what really helping them is Sony has games lots of games Microsoft at the moment not really and if Nintendo can continue to bring great games too the switch they are going to do good as well. It's all about the games my friend.

Need I remind you that the PS2 was literally just a stronger PS1, and is still the most successful console of all time? If anything, you should be praying to every god you can think of that the PS5 will be a better PS4, because the likelihood of it being backwards compatible increases exponentially, and for the sake of further distinguishing itself from its predecessor, may mean support for the previous generations as well.
I highly suggest you reconsider your stance on this matter, because I too wish Sony would play ball with normal backwards compatibility, but the chances of that happening are far lower if they pull a Nintendo, hardware-wise.

Other than the PSP I got 10 years ago, the PS4 will be my first Sony console. When I bought the OG Xbox, I had thought my next console would be the obviously named PS3 (I used to be a console jumper where each generation would be a new brand) but they just didn't have the fun games to warrant getting it over the 360. I played on my roommate's PS3 and found it fun, but also found the technical GUI not as fun to use. One thing though that keeps me a Microsoft supporter (the reason I got the One in the end) was consumer loyalty...making sure old games worked on the current hardware. Sony needs to really work on that for the PS5.
The Last Guardian that you mentioned is actually a perfect example of a game that ran well on PS4 Pro, but not so well on a standard PS4 (from what I've read). I agree with you mostly, although I don't think that the PS5 will be out until slightly later (2021 is my prediction). I am hoping that the PS5 will be fully backwards compatible with the PS4/PS4 Pro.
Wow the PS4 is 4 years old, I remember like yesterday watching the E3 reaval, and seeing that it launched on my birthday ( along with the Xbox brand ) the biggest memory of all is researching Wich console to get and I did for a year on and off and then in Christmas 2014 I choose the PS4..........now 3 years later I know I made the right decision ( I have a xb1 launch model as well and yes I made the right decision )
It's a amazing system to its pure simplicity to it's vastly updated/upgraded controller to the killer exclusive games and next year it seems to keep on getting better with more AAA exclusive games coming to it from the PlayStation Mainstays like God of War and the 3rd party Detroit: become human and big characters like spiderman or even new IP Days Gone
The years ahead are the golden years of the PS4, this is when every console tries to go out with a bang and it seems PS4 is well on its way
I want Trophies with Ps2/Ps1 classics, and that cost money to put in. So I don't mind paying. Especially if I don't own the game., but I wan't harder to find games like Rule of Rose and Haunting Grounds. The Ps2 classics available on Psn are a let down, and most are easy to find on ebay or Amazon.

Until 4K gaming becomes the norm (and is cheaper), there is no need for a PS5. I think (no earlier than) Q4 2020 we might get a PS5 with true 4K for $400.

I think the Pro is a dumb idea but I think Microsoft went overboard with their version to the point it’s kind of ridiculous. The Pro is what the launch PS4 should have been, a 1080p 60fps console.
I don’t see the Switch dominating due to Nintendo’s policies and procedures especially with online gaming. What I don’t get is how does an company become arrogant when they are suppose to sell a product as if it’s the best. Arrogance is due to a person’s personality not business models? durkadur27 The Wii sold the most but when it comes to game sales, it was lower than the competition. Call of Duty most likely has higher numbers on each respectable console over any game sold on the Wii. So inherently the attachment rate is higher on the other platforms despite lower console sales.

Last Guardian framerate was unplayable for me on PS4 and was the reason I upgraded to the Pro.
Man I had no idea that it didn't read from discs. That's honestly pretty irritating. Though I guess the installation process doesn't require an internet connection. And it probably degrades the disc less. Still, it feels almost like a paperweight, and it means I need to pay more for a better HD when I get one.
It does for updates, but beyond that, not required.
Japan's internet/digital culture is rather interesting because they have one of the best internet infrastructures in the world. As an Australian, where we have the worst internet infrastructure for a developed country, it was a whiplash effect using the internet during my Japan trip. But despite our dreadful internet, Australians are very internet savy, more-so than the Japanese it seems. 1 in 3 Australians have a Netflix account. I think our desire for the internet was born out of the fact we were tired of waiting forever for entertainment to be released locally (pirating content or using a VPN to access American streaming) and hated paying twice the price for goods, when we could buy something overseas for half the price via online shopping. Plus towns and people are really spread out, so your nearest game or video store can be 50km away. The internet and digital distribution becomes more appealing. That draw to digital has never really happened in Japan.
I just don't know if I'm losing my passion for gaming or what, I really enjoyed the previous generation but the current on it seems as you said uninspired, I always end up playing my Mega Drive or my NES, I haven't finish so many games that I bought for my PS4, Its missing something I don't know what, Im even thinking that another crash is on the way, I can cite Witcher 3,Raise of the tomb raider and Bloodborne as really great games that I couldn't stop to play, nothing else
