This video features me doing a "soft flush" of the Aisin brand TF-80SC transmission fluid on my "new-to-me" 2010 Volvo S80 V8. This same 6-speed auto can also be found in Lexus & Toyota cars, and possibly other makes. I drained 3 qts of trans oil at a time, and then refilled it with 3 qts of fresh Toyota fluid and then rowed thru the gears for about 10 secs for each gear selection; then drained the oil preceded to do that 3 times total. The car shifts so much smoother now; it was a success! You will need at least 4 qts (or 4 liters) to do a single, drain & refill, "soft flush", which s/b done every 40-45k miles, imo. Product links down below ----- Also, PLEASE take a moment to watch the short ads in the beginning (or middle) of each video, that way the channel can at least secure some revenue to be able to keep this thing going; otherwise I'll have to start begging for donations and I'm sure none of you would want that! : ) Thanks for watching and be sure to subscribe for more video updates! -See ya guys soon!

Thanks for the video, great job! You and I have the same mechanic style, a few beers and a few funny mistakes ... whatever. Although I may drop a few F-Bombs here and there!
great work ! my fiat500 mexican 2011 whit the same gearbox start a kicking in reverse !! i drain the old oil 2 times but still kicking !
Cool series! I'm interested to see your intake setup and how it sounds! Thinking of doing something similar
Thank you! I just uploaded the intake video; I'll try & get sound clips here soon when I can. Be sure to subscribe for future uploads; thanks again!!
Great video. Keep the beer belly.
Lol
Loosen the fill plug first, then drain the oil.
Yea, I said that in the video after i did the first drain. I forgot to open it to aid in the first dump.
@Pedal2Metal Thanks for your videos, keep up the good work. I was wondering what are your opinion on Volvo's official recommendation which says:
"Check automatic transmission fluid level only if an external leak is identified. Volvo recommends changing automatic transmission fluid every 52,500 miles / 84,000 kilometers, only on vehicles used for towing, or when a message displays in the Instrument Panel Text Window." Otherwise, Volvo considers it a "lifetime" fill.
If I had owned this car from New, I would have changed the fluid out every 35-40k miles, regardless of what the manufacturers tell us. No fluid is good for a lifetime. I suppose "lifetime" to them is most likely 100k miles, post warranty period though. Thanks for watching!
The filter is inside the transmission you have to pull the bellhousing off split the case to get to it , yes a total bastard of a job.
This transmission doesn't have the filter? We just need to change the oil?
@Pedal2Metal Is it 1.5 + 3 Qt so 4.5Qt total or 3Qt Total? Thanks bro,.. My indy just did mine yesterday he said 5 liters total. 2011 XC90 D5. So def overfill. I have AP200 Autel and can see live tranny data, so just warm up to 55C and remove the middle little plug right/? until it stop dripping put it back? With engine on or offf ? I need to level the car too looks like.
Hey did you paint part of the grill? If so what did you use?
Its just gloss black vinyl covering the chrime bar; same stuff used for car wraps.
Hi good day. I smiled big now. :) I was looking for a video with a V8 automatic transmission. I found. :) And I see you love small cars too. (Hot Wheels) As I. I rebuild, renovate, tune.custom cars :) I also have some videos. But I'm just a beginner. And I have a V8 Volvo. Unfortunately, he was now jerking in reverse. But only once. Everything else works well. It has changed nicely. He just jerked backwards. A day has passed. It's flawless now. Do you think an oil change can be enough? Or should I prepare for more serious trouble? Sorry about the translator. Andrew
Sorry I'm just now finding your comment. It could be the transmission's valve body causing your issues. A soft flush of the fluid might help though.
Hi. Did you perform transmission adaptation or initialization (I don't know what is the right word for that) by diagnostic tool after this operation?
I do know what you are referring to; through vida dice software. It only resets the oil service life time period. I have vida dice, but I did not reset the service period with it.
@@Pedal2Metal_on_UA-cam Thank you for your reply. Actually my car is Peugeot 508, which is having similar Aisin transmission TF-70SC. I have crossed the 200,000 km and first time decided to flush the transmission. I have made some research and understood that doing this without service period reset could damage the transmission. Also changing the oil after these much big mileage is dangerous. Since you have done several flushes at the time without reset, did you face any issue after that?
@@araminasyan7944 No, from what I understand, the volvo service interval is merely an internal record keeping data logging entry. It has nothing to do with anything else, such as mechanical changes; good or bad.
Why are we changing transmission oil 3 times?
I am hearing knoking on 3rd gear when accelerating and reverse some times
I change it once on 70 000 miles
I still hearing it when diving more than 30 minutes some times
Too bad they did'nt put that V8 in the V70! Would have loved to have that... 😍
Theres a guy who doesn't live too far from me a v70 wagon retrofitted w the v8.
Why? Who wants a V8 wagon?
@@fredaydaybae8450 I would have! 😉
@@fredaydaybae8450 The RS6 wagon have had both V8:s and V10:s if I remember correctly...
And to ask you no issues with shifts? I heard if you change at higher miles you may have problem. Myth? I have 80k on mines looking to doing this
They (most experts) say this soft flush method should be done every 60k miles. Yours is a good candidate; mine had 122k or so when I did it. No issues.
I did mine at 80K. It still shifts smooth. I’m glad I did. Lifetime oil is a myth.
My fill plug was tight like that too. How does it shift now?
I think a little smoother than before. I need to do another light flush sometime and replace the tiny o-ring on the small plug. I noticed i have a tiny drip from there now.
DO that just after got the car! my oil was black like yours!
Yikes, yea that was probably due time then to change it.
I know I'm a little late to the party, but does Volvo require a reset on shift adaptations after fluid change? When I flushed my Ford Edge i just dropped the fluid 3x (while the battery was unplugged) and let the computer relearn where it needs to shift; that is why they have that ability. That car shifts flawlessly now after a reman valve body and a bit of driving...
I have an V8 XC90 myself and that was my plan; drop the fluid 3x then let the computer undergo a relearn. If it shifts smooth afterwards then I'm done. If it shifts worse then I'll take it in to have the adaptations reset.
I think that should be the rule of thumb here.
I did not use Vida Dice to recalibrate.. my car relearning and still is shifting great.
Hi so I own a 2010 Volvo xc90 V8 and some forum's say they have a transmission cooler from factory, would anyone on this channel know for sure plus by adding the cooler did it make the gear changers smoother etc..
I got a adaption reset done this week with a snapon scan tool and it's fixed the jerk from 2nd to 3rd ,just doing the oil changes is only a partial job
I did forget to use my VIDA to the adaption reset, but my car still shifts great two yrs later.
@@MementoMori-xx5qo My dealer claimed my car had every software upgrade available, so who knows. My current mileage is 141k
How many miles when u flushed the fluid?
Mine was 121k
Ive got 105k, fluids never been changed as per the manual, lol. I’ll be doing this. Still shifts flawlessly?
Had 168k km on my 2010 V70 that I flushed 2 days ago. Shifted ok before, really smooth now...
Yes, my car still shifts great and I even forgot to reset the shift adaption via VIDA
Isn't there a transmission FILTER to change?
How do find the Toyota ATF T-IV..?
Is it equivalent to the Volvo JWS 3309 ATF?
Volvos 3309 ATF is type IV fluid; its the same stuff. I bought mine from Amazon; I have a product link down below the video in the description section. Thanks for watching!
@@Pedal2Metal_on_UA-cam thanks you very much
@@salehsiami6681 no problem!
What about a vavoline or something from store instead of dealer. Compatible fluid is compatible fluid, no? Always enjoy your yamaha vids!
Do u really have to reset the gearbox code
I never did reset the trans adaptation stuff via Vida Dice, and my car still shifts fine almost 4 yrs later.
Hey, how is your transmission doing now ?
Still going strong
@@Pedal2Metal_on_UA-cam they are very solid!
What kind of air filter is that?
Its basically a no name one; DNA I think it was. I uploaded a video about my quick little setup lastnight with links. Thanks for watching!
Can TF-80SC use Type WS ATF?
I don't know. I only used what I knew was the correct Toyota branded fluid to be safe: amzn.to/40aE5Iy
check the pcv on that engine, most likely cause of oil leak
I have since replaced all engine seals and rotten hoses etc.
Why you did not change transmission filter?
There is no trans filter, as far as I know
