    Someone should give you a Noble Prize or something similar.. Not for all the amazing music you create (Which it is amazing!) but for being such an outstanding kind human being and sharing all this knowledge you give us on your channel! I don't know of anyone else in your position that does that. Your work is amazing and thank you for sharing your craft with your loyal fans...

    Yes, I have a question, it would be very handy to see the details on how you do the routing on the surround busing, and also on how you send to front and rear effects. Thanks!

    Tom! Thank you so much for these videos. During the quarantine ive finally dived into your videos that have helped me to build and configure my own nuc master-slave rig. A more detailed overview into the routing chain of each instrument track coming from both external synths and VEP Pro would be most helpful and much appreciated. Forever truly grateful for your generosity. Cheers

    Dank ju, Tom, it is fantastic to have such a detailed look at your mixer configurations, very inspiring, I think I am going to use VCAs much more, now!
    Also, it would be interesting to see how you have setup your mobile rig (you mentioned about it in a previous episode), which certainly is much less powerful than your desktop system, as well as how to sync Cubase and ProTools, particularly which MIDI software you are using to achieve the connection between the two DAWs, cheers!

    Thank You Tom this was amazing overview. I'm curious if balance dynamics and match reverbs of your orchestral and non-orchestral virtual instruments inside your template or do You leave it for mixing session at the very end ? You use huge amount of various libraries so you have to have that problem of having your instruments playing in different spaces different distances and different tail lengths. Thank You again for sharing all of this.

    Tom,
    What about showing the inputs into the Studio Live? I though you were going to talk about this. Do you route VST to the internal soundcard of the board?
    I am also interested to know about buzzing noise coming out of the electrical outlets of your studio. I have a small home studio and find this crazy (I had to plug everything into the same breaker to minimize the buzz). I guess you have to have some sort of electrical filter at the source with your setup.
    Thanks,

    Great video, but I was really hoping to see how you treated the orchestral libraries effect-wise. I saw you had a lot of EQ plug-ins on the channels, like on the brass and strings (and probably woodwinds as well) and would love to know what you did to make them sound as you want them to sound.

    Hey Junkie XL ! Thanks for the amazing tutorials! The template is amazing! do you think you could have some kind of "routing diagram" for a more visual understanding of the template? Let's say you take all your orchestral strings. Show how you create the track and then route them with send FX and then onto the mixer between Groups and VCA? I would personally understand better as a more "zoomed-out" visual aid

    Tom thanks for these videos. I saw the other video with you and Warren H. My only question is why did you dump Pro tools for Cubase? I Used to use Cakewalk then went Cubase now Reaper. This is not a fight over which is the king off all DAW'S.
    Since the best DAW is the one that you can work on fluently.

    How do you manage Cubase session files between cues and once you receive the live recordings? I assume you use a different file for each cue, but what happens when you change some eq or fx settings on an instrument that you want to translate that change across all cues?

    I have a question about routing short strings vs long strings and low strings vs high strings. Some instruments like ensemble patches or strings that use keyswitches to change articulations have both short and long strings, and both high and low strings in the same instrument. How do you route these kinds of instruments? Do you just bite the bullet and make an exception for the short/high strings group, or do you have some way of making sure that only short strings are ever routed to the 'short strings' bus etc?

    Brilliant video Tom, once again. I'm really enjoying this series!
    I've started building my own template and I am following the general structure of yours but with a FEW less instruments. I'm running a Macbook Pro with 16GB Ram and Logic Pro X so that is the main bottleneck I have. I'm actually surprised I can run a lot more tracks than I used to be able to, perhaps the software has gotten less buggy over the years. So this is encouraging.
    I am interested to know what processing you do on your libraries, I'm guessing it's mainly Multiband compression and transient designing, to get more attack on shorts?
    I've also started making my own Kontakt libraries with Rhodes Chroma sampled through MPC3000, perhaps I'll post some if people are interested. All thanks to your generous sharing of knowledge.
    My question would be, if you could only have a small setup, how would you go about building that template yourself? Also would you recommend getting into batch processing of libraries? I'm a little daunted my this without guidance.
    THANKS!

    The biggest question I have, is what is your process when creating all of these sample libraries. You have made so many of them I can't imagine how you did it all within your own lifespan! Surely you have some sort of secret that allows you to make your sample libraries really quickly.

    @junkiexl Hi Tom I was thinking... for a quad speaker set up to save on cpu power would this work?.... if i want to have front and back reverbs for all my final grp stems could i say for example send instruments to a reverb channel which is panned to the front speakers and the create blank group channel and call that rear verb and just have a send going from the front verb channel to the blank rear channel which i would pan to the rear speakers only. does that make sense?

    Hi Tom.
    Your Strings instrument tracks have Expression Maps, but in the mixer you have a separation to Long and Short Strings. I don't understand which track has to be routed to "Long" Group and which to "Short" because every track doesn't have a specific articulation now. Or maybe those tracks routed to somewhere else?
    And tell me please, why don't Brass and Woodwinds routed to Long and Short subgroups?

  • @jeffhijlkema
    @jeffhijlkema 3 роки тому

    Tom, thanks for sharing your experience. Your dedication is inspiring. Couple of questions though:
    1. Do you print (export) your stems (just individual subgroups I guess?) from out of this same Cubase project file?
    2. Do you print these stems with or without all inserts and sends, before handing it over to the music editor?
    Thanks in advance and be well,
    Jeff Hijlkema, The Netherlands.

    Dear Tom ( and anyone who knows ) I still don't get how to set Arranger track ( music + video ) to make variations of parts in a cue AND AT THE SAME TIME playing the video clip in LINEAR so that it shouldn't jump according to the parts of the new Arrangement... For ex: I have a written cue for a clip, I divide it into A-E parts, then I want to try : E-B-C-A_D variation in the Arrangement window... but if I play this, the corresponding video clip playhead also jumps according to the parts, which makes it unusable....So I want the music to jump in E-B-C-A_D fashion, but the video should play independently in linear ( from A-E )..... Anyone knows a solution ? ( within Cubase - not from external syncing ) Many thanks !

    @JunkieXL Hi Tom---- For your ask me anything VLOG..... I am also running Cubase 10.x and migrated from Digital Performer. I noticed in your tracks window that you had to mixing tracks. One being "2-mix" and the other being "4-mix". I also do surround summing mixes to send to the mixing engineer for the final dubbing. Can you explain the routing you do in order to record on both tracks? Should would save a lot of time for me too. Thanks. Great tutorials BTW>

    • @SalomonAbiassi
      @SalomonAbiassi 5 років тому +1

      I tried this:
      2MIX and 4MIX Tracks Work in cubase (I'll explain the 2MIX)
      Signal Flow
      :
      Your Mix >>> Group Track (Masterbus) >>> Send >>> FX Track (2MIX_MAGIC) no output routing...
      Create Audio Track & call it 2MIX, set input as 2MIX_MAGIC and leave Output blank.
      There you have your algorithm :D I'm was just so curious and did that routing inside of cubase virtually if that helps.

    [question] Didn't see your VST rack setup in this season, Do you use only VST racks or Instruments or both? Trying to build my own template but running into the 64 VST Rack slot limitation now so I don't know what to do next... Maybe use Instrument tracks. I don't use the VEP and only plan to use 1 computer. My target goal is going to be around 128 Kontakt instances. thx

And how do you cope with latency + running what appears to be super long MIDI and audio cables to the PC/Mixer?

    What are the benefits of having all your instruments, effects, etc preloaded into a massive template, as opposed to just creating a slimmed down version? Is it to save time? I'm just curious. I'm not a professional, so this template seems mind-boggling to me. Do you need any volunteers in your studio?

    I have a important question please maybe you can help me,
    I have two Computers :-
    1- MacBook Pro {i7 - with 16 GB Ram}
    2- Desktop Computer ( Hackintosh) {i7 - with 32 GB Ram}
    With two separated sound-card
    I need to sync both of them ..and open my template between my computers
    because my Orchestra template is too big and it’s not working good on one computer.
    Note:-
    1- The computers are connected together already by (MIDI cable Between sound Cards - and also connected with Lan Cable) .
    2- I already synced them (one master- anther one Slave)
    I need to know how to load some of My Libraries (on the slave computer) and recording at the other one (the master computer).
    How can I do it please .. ??
    Finally, I appreciate you so so much.
    Keep going helping ✌🏻
    And god bless you.
