I was a 13 year old laddie watching this with my brothers Stuart & Graham, well, it was just so uplifting. Marvellous Scotland, just marvellous!!
Montford is fantastic here. His voice and intonation so fiery patriotic, proud and epic at the same time. When listening, even I, the foreigner, begin to feel for Scotland and want the ball to roll for them.
Great comment
to think we knocked czechoslovakia out of both 1974 and 1978 world cup, yet in between they won the euros. it defies belief, we had some great sides in the 70,s.
God bless you Arthur Montford, what a guy !
Great pass from Willie Morgan for the second goal and two great headers from Jordan, a master of the air.
Greatest commentator ever...RIP Arthur Montford
I was at that game. Fantastic! That was a team of battlers and none more so than big Joe Jordan
Best atmosphere I've ever experienced that night. Tommy Hutchison played an absolute blinder, got kicked upside down, but kept on charging at the Czech defence.
Unforgettable night.
One of the greatest nights at Hampden and I was there in the 100,000 crowd.Sadly today's fans will never experience that atmosphere again.Once again it is now 16 years since Scotland qualified for the World Cup finals. Arthur RIP
I was there great night had by all
and counting, sadly we dont have the calibre of players today, that played in that era.
when dalgliesh was almost a bairn!
Was at this game with a great pal of mine Davy Stewart from Cumbernauld who has since passed away. Left Hampden to get a bus to do night shift in the Olivetti typewriter factory happy days
50 years ago tonight,9 year old watching on a Black and White portable TV- happy days without the commercialisation of today. Tommy Hutchinson and Joe Jordan were brilliant that night.

- Joe Jordan !! So many happy memories of that night, spun round a barrier for the equalizer then ending up 30-40 feet away from where I was standing at the winner !!. Battered black & blue and still one of the happiest 13-years-olds in the world that night !!
My favourite football match. I was there with my pals. What a night!
That's the first Scotland game that I can remember watching, aged 8." Disaster for Scotland." I still use that phrase. I didn't remember that it came from this commentary
And I remember "Bremner hits the post"
Maybe you should Stop saying that - from an age old England 🇬🇧 supporter
Great JOE JORDAN got the goals on the World Cup 74,78 and 82!!!
Watched this in Lossiemouth on our next door neighbour's colour telly - what memories
Last ever six figure crowd at Hampden !⁹
Hampden Park really did roar when there were 100,000 in attendance
We travelled from Dundee for this game. I was behind the goal when Hunter 'misjudged' and let that poor effort in. I was 16 then and Jim Holton was my hero. So imagine how I felt when he equalised.
Joe Jordan won it for us and became a national hero. I'm now beginning to believe under Steve Clarke we have a chance again.
Football and tactics have changed so much that money now dominates. we'll never see the likes of them again.
Six foot two, eyes of blue, big Jim Holtons after you, na,na, na, na na,na, na, na na na na.
I too was there that night, what an atmosphere. The good old days!
@@weebolddavy so so sad big jim died at a young age
Them were the days!
I was 7 years old and in the stands at that game. 100,000 in Hampden was pretty scary, but I`m glad I didn't know Id never experience anything like that again.
Scotland in the 70's was a good team with many good players. And 2 World Cup played 1974 e 1978 with some good results
great memories as a 10 year old,brilliant from Arthur,r.i.p
Come on Dennis! Come on!
There's a stramash in the sky that requires a commentator... :( RIP Arthur Montford.
What a header by Holton
Best commentry to this day
The late Arthur Montford of Scottish Television who hosted their sports show Scotsport.
The last 100,000 plus crowd Scotland was see I believe.
6 foot 2, eyes of blue, Big jim Holton's after you! Actually 6 feet tall with brown eyes but WTF?!!!!
Had the TV sound turned down hod on the radio Commentry.
i was too young to know what a 100,000 crowd looks like,
STV Arthur Monforth a great sports broadcaster and writer also hosted ITV Golf coverage as well also comontated on Golf to
Well nearly right - he was Arthur Montford!
Joe Jordan was little known north of the border at the time. I can remember my Rangers supporting brother running around our bedroom shouting "it's Jardine, its Jardine" 😄
Arthur Montford RIP
Chez nous, on a Nelson Montfort.
Why has this game never been released in DVD anywhere ?
Because it isn't Hibs.
