Interestingly both Elara Dorne and Doc are clearly the two characters where the fact that they're the healer of the group is the most pronounced and clear, and they also try to publish their knowledge in a medical journal. The big difference is that Elara Dorne purely cares about doing the right thing purely because it's the right thing to do and nothing more, meanwhile, Doc certainly cares about that but he also wants fame and glory.
Ah, Doc. Somewhat insufferable for his womanizing, but he still has several funny moments and genuinely wants to do the right thing. If nothing else, he's better than Skadge.
