LOL - Garrick looking right into camera all blurry and outraged about watching Emily in Paris for no reason was sensational
I maintain that Andy's friends are Nate level bad. They take all the gifts, at least one knows how big this opportunity was, they watch her turn down Christian Thompson and STILL they play keep away with her phone and give her shit without listening to her side.
They were the worst! My friends and I have discussed this extensively!
Yes! Her friends are just the woorst! They already knew she is stressed with her boss and instead of helping her unwind, they have the nerve to toss her phone around after taking high-end gifts from her.
We need a FULL Month of Tucci ❤️ - not just two weeks 😭😭
it was a little surprising to me that none of y'all read andy's initial dismissal of the fashion industry as internalized misogyny. she's set up in contrast to the ladies working at runway from the moments of the opening film partially because she is going to be competing with these women for opportunities and partially because existing as a femme in this society means constantly being compared to women like them. like, tit shots to keep the boyfriends awake? that's the actual marketing language that was used around films like these. even in a movie for and about women we need to be reminded of where mens' eyes go when they see us.
however, like a lot of girls around that time, instead of aiming her ire at the people making the comparisons, andy looked down on the people who embraced the potential of being fashionable. the most important way that she changes in relation to her boyfriend is that she has become invested in things that typically only feminine people care about. if he had an actual ethical objection to the fashion industry, that would have been the primary conflict between him and andy instead of saying "you've changed, you're taking this too seriously." he literally only wants her to be interested in things that he deems cool and her friends also suffer from this to a degree. that is misogyny in action. "if you develop feelings and desires independent of my own surface values, you are now a fembot." she cannot take her job seriously until she takes miranda seriously, until she takes runway readers seriously, and that goes against the conditioning she's experienced to not just reject unattainable standards, but to deem them unworthy of her effort to attain them in the first place. she has to peel that shit away in layers.
Thank you for pointing this out. I didn't realise this at the time but upon rewatching the movie, it is so easy to see how Andy was very 'Not like other girls' here.
Im hoping Burlesque will be one of the Guilty Pleasure movies for Tucci Month

The cut to everyone wearing frog hats was still processing in my brain when I heard Garrick say “some of you fucks requested it” and just. The juxtaposition of real deal Garrick and the frog hat he’s in while he’s a badass. I just love these guys

Also, Meryl Streep said that the costumes were the Special Effects of the Movie and truer words were never spoken.
I am so thrilled that they did this episode bc as soon as I saw it I KNEW they were gonna tear Nate a new one, and I was not disappointed

Besides being cute, I don't 'get' the frog hats. I googled wondering if it was some kind of Tucci reference, but the only thing I could find is that frogs are currently a symbol for the LGBT+ community. Is that the point they're making?
They’re just cute. Zach had one and lost it at a concert and Kelsey bought him a bunch of new ones along with others for the rest of the cast.

What we forget about Meryl Streep in this movie is that Glenn Close played Cruella De Vil who was the precursor to this character. She had some iconic moments too: “I have no use for…babies!”

About the comment with Miranda being a reasonable boss, Miranda holds herself to just as high a standard as she does everyone else. Higher even. In every single scene we see, she’s always working or talking about work. She’s a work horse and her efforts pay off

i actually loved this movie way more than the book and i read the book prior to watching it. one of the rare moments where the movie was better than the source material.
Kelsey is not wrong: I wanted to grow up and be Anna Wintour’s Assistant. Also, my mother and I were Tim Gunn Stans and watched OG ‘Project Runway’ religiously.

Andrea was very much a the villain! I watched this when it first came out as a teenager and hated Nate and Miranda but as an adult I realized it was for sure Anne. She got a very sought after job and instead of appreciating it, she sulked. Currently being on the hamster wheel that is corporate America all I can think about is all of the people that have worked extremely hard to get that job and was passed on for her, just for her to complain. There is a certain brand of YT woman who try to act like they are above the capitalisms and privilege of America while still reaping the benefits. She was a perfect example. Like oooh I'm quirky and different and not superficial when she literally has someone dream job and could have quit if she was unhappy but she chose to complain until TUCCI gave her a reality check like ma'am get a grip. Also she was horrible at communication with Nate and tried to act like the writing wasn't on the wall. He was so confused about her and this job as she always made it seem to him like it was stupid and she hated it there but, she was doing all these thing to that interrupted here everyday life. Her actions were not matching her words at all.

Tucci lives in London because hes married to Emily Blunts sister and I've seen him on my overground route several times. I love him but I've never approached him because the commute is kinda sacred. If you are the first to make a big deal about a celebrity then you don't know if 1) you're going to get embarrassingly rejected in front of dozens of people or 2) they're super nice and everybody else will start bothering them too. So I just admire from afar!
Yay! One of my favorite movies 😃 I'm 35 minutes in, because even though I've seen it a million times I love to watch the films before the pod. It really makes my Mondays and gives me a happy start to the week 💜

This movie slaps, and it still holds up all these years later 💜
I feel like the film doesn't actually have a villain, which is nice because most situations and people aren't black/white good/bad. I like that every character in there is flawed and, frankly, often unlikeable from operating in a very competitive, stressful environment. However we get to have some empathy and understanding for where they're coming from. I feel the story is about evolving as a person through a certain experience rather than winning or losing, or who's perfectly right or wrong.

I’ve read the book after watching the book and they’re both good. I enjoyed reading the book because it’s way more chaotic. The movie had quotable lines and catchphrases. They balanced each other out.
The sequel is also a good read

If you're going to do Tucci month, then you need to do Undercover Blues. Young Tucci long before he was famous and he's still the standout character for me, even though he's only supporting.
