you're on THIN fucking ice for not mentioning that miranda stops smiling at the end to tell the driver to "go" in true miranda fashion. absolute icon behaviour i think about her (the scene) constantly
22:46 fun fact about this line; originally it was “everybody wants to be me,” but Meryl Streep changed it during a table read to the iconic line we all know because she felt her version added more depth and meaning.
Can we just talk about the look on Miranda's face when she says "everyone wants this" not only tells US that she has a hard time with it, but tells us that SHE is aware she has a hard time with it. She has several of those looks, so subtle and quick, another being the "why would I cancel" when she's crying about the divorce. She knows exactly why, she just knows she can't afford too and it stings. To portray that in such a subtle and quick way speaks volumes to the casting, directing, and writing.
I remember reading that the original line was "everybody wants to be me" and meryl streep changed it to "us" which i feel like really shows that miranda sees Andy (and her team as a whole) as an extension of herself and that's why she has such strong demands of all of them, not only that but it hammers home that Andy has become "one of them" whether she was willing to admit it or not
I watched this movie when I was really young and it matched so much with who I already was and would become, I kind of admired Miranda cause to me she was just so cold and cool and at the same time I didn't liked her cause she was just awful and I have an aversion to bosses, anyway, eversince then the only thing I gather from this line is that she's one of a sad b1tch. don't care about iconicness or this attempt of an "unironic" portrayal of a girlboss, woman in charge with attitude that knows what she wants or whatever. I mean, it's definitely entertaining and I share mike's enthusiasm for the character's balls but bottom line she's pitiful
While the cerulean scene is iconic, we all know that cerulean was in fact made popular in the 90s due to Cerulean City in Pokémon Red and Blue (and Green and Yellow) with Misty (girlboss) as the gym leader
fun story, one time i wrote a book and named something in it “cerulean” and when my friend read it he said “dude you can’t just name this thing after a town in pokémon” and i was like “…did you just say that you think pokémon invented cerulean” and that was the day he learned that the town names in kanto were all colour-based.
I think it speaks to Stanley Tucci's acting that we still loved Nigel even tho he was basically telling Andy to starve herself bc she was a size 6 lol Also did we just skim over Gisele Bundchen's cameo?!
Even though a size 6 is objectively not “fat”, I do appreciate that Andy doesn’t go lower than a size 4. In hindsight, this is actually a best case scenario for this era. They could have been like “be a size 00 or gtfo”
I think we all hated that part of this movie but I mean it was realistic for 2000’s fashion and beauty standards and much more common for people to get fat shamed so casually, even though ofc size 6 isn’t fat but for the industry and models her size was large. It also drew the big divide between Andy who is happy with her life and all the girls at runway who essentially want to be models and wear the clothes in the magazine, just another way to point out how she’s different
I want a Muppet's The Devil Wears Prada, where Miranda is played by Miss Piggy, and Emily Blunt is the the only human actor in the film, and they never acknowledge the fact that Emily is the only human surrounded by Muppets
all the girlies in this movie slayed, even the crusty friend who keeps siding with the crusty boyfriend. at least she had one legitimate reason for not being an andy supporter at some point. emily still slaying work in CRUTCHES. miranda still slaying even in DIVORCE ERA. andy still slaying even when her crusty boyfriend is trying to minimize her slay. just snaps for everyone.
sincerely obsessed with the juxtaposition of “is that what youre wearing to watch this video” versus how videos used to open with outfit compliments. not everyones willing to do it but we are all better for it.
i love that andi is supposed to be "sad" and "not pretty" at the beginning because of her "horrible fashion sense" but she's anne hathaway, she's still stunning like - 5:56
Emily Blunt is amazing in this movie. She steals a lot of the scenes she's in, eg the cheese cube diet. I love the final line: "I'm only one stomach flu away from my goal weight." I'm disappointed that Emily Blunt the actress isn't exactly the same as Emily the character in this movie. Apparently she's much less snobby and bitchy in real life.
"I support women's wrongs." - I fucking love that! Her whinging boyfriend pissed off that she had a more glamourous flex-worthy job and was actually getting somewhere with it.

It's not the end of the world
the montage of Andy with her new slay outfits changed and DEFINED my ENTIRE existence as a 9yo who dreamed to be a fashion designer, I cant even explain.
I LOVE the smile at the end, because when they’re at the OG James Holt preview, Stanley Tucci is all ‘Miranda has smiled once on record’ and it was viewed as her ultimate seal of approval. So to give it to Andy in that final meeting, after she’d walked away from runway, it’s like Miranda was acknowledging that Andy leaving was the right decision. In the end Andy made the ‘Miranda call’ and didn’t allow herself to be backed into a corner. She was her own woman. As much as I wanted to see Andy continue to slay it, I think Miranda would’ve respected her less if she’d stayed.
michael microphone doing a 'Devil Wears Prada' commentary while wearing PRADA!!!!! The serve of the century methinks. The devil works harder but our ferral king works harder.
If you've ever seen steel magnolias, Miranda crying about the divorce but then saying "why would I cancel" has the same energy as m'lynn crying in the hospital but then ordering the guys to get the funeral ready. Like strong women crying and then getting shit done. Period
I just wanna say that yeah Andy could have handled certain things better but if I was her and working my ass off for the career I went to school for and spent thousands of dollars on, I too would go to Paris. Like you said, it's not like Emily would have been too much help anyway with a broken leg and knowing who Miranda is, she wouldn't have cut her any slack for being unable to move around. I dont think that what Andy did to Emily by going to Paris is even CLOSE to what Miranda did to Nigel.
This! I also feel like it's a cop out to have Emily break her leg, now if that didn't happen and Emily could go to Paris, but Miranda didn't want her to go now THAT would make it more interesting
@@tvddamonlovernina yep. Taking the choice away from Andy was a cop out. I wanted to see her actually CHOOSE to go to Paris, which would have made Miranda's comment an absolute slap in the face, and a chance for Andy to genuinely question her choices.
idk if i’m just not understanding but it seems like andy going to paris instead of emily isn’t andy’s fault? like miranda said that andy was going to fashion week and emily wasn’t what about that is shady for andy? unless andy not accepting the invitation to fashion week meant that emily would go but miranda said emily wasn’t on the team for fashion week at all???? i may be misinterpreting it tho help lmao
@@2000-very-small-ants if Andy refused, Miranda would have to take Emily, since she would be without any assistants otherwise and Emily is still better than any last minute replacement. The reason Miranda said Emily wasn’t on the team at all is because she was no longer the best assistant, but the choice not to go would basically force Miranda to take Emily or find someone else. Unfortunately they decided to have Emily suffer that accident, which basically strips Andy from the responsibility, since now if she decided to refuse Miranda would probably have to find a 3rd assistant or take an injured Emily that would likely end up losing her job for not being able to keep up.
5:32 honestly I don’t recall a single moment where Miranda raises her voice…at anyone… and that’s because she doesn’t need to! I love that, that’s POWER.

Back again to say Meryl's performance was well and truly iconic in every sense of the word. Such line deliveries as "I think we need a jacket here" I think about WEEKLY for the past decade like, what's that about??? It's about Meryl being an absolute powerhouse of acting.
i lost my shit at the grilled cheese analogy of her boyfriend, i’ve never watched this movie but that is such a detailed read of someone that i don’t need to, because it communicates everything i need to know about this character, they could use this analogy as a casting call
Meryl in this movie is an All Time Great Performance. Like, her line readings ("hire the smart FAT girl", "why is no one READY." THE CERULEAN MONOLOUGE) should be studied. Also, Emily Blunt. She's fabulous and "you eat CARBS, for CHRISSAKES." is just gutbustingly funny.

Meryl and Anne total icons kept on slaying scene after scene but MISS EMILY BLUNT kept my jaw on the floor just coming for everyones neck stealing the show at the mere sight of her.
The scene where Andy and Christian "hook up" is like... legitimately SA. She laid out how it was wrong of him to try to sleep with her but that spiel was supposed to be the "joke." I loved this movie because I wanted to be a Fashion Designer. So, I went and did that and worked as a Stylist for a top Studio in Australia. I can quote Princess Diaries like you can quote this. Also the negligence of Andy not to know her future employer for an interview, lol. I also, can hear this soundtrack as it unfolds.
This movie entirely altered my personality in the fourth grade. I started the fashion club and I would draw little outfits and I hired other girls in my class to draw designs for my magazine and I would read them to filth just like Miranda. I made a girl cry oops
i have no idea what this channel is about, i dont usually watch these types of videos on youtube, i dont even know if i would consider this like a video essay thing, all I know is that your personality, narration and personal breakdown of this movie completely enthralled me and I love exactly how it touches on some key things (like how deep the fashion industry choices affects us and that butterfly effect) from the movie but its doesnt get too analytical. And this brought out a lot of parts from the movie i didn't even remember since its been a while since i watched it. By the end of the video, I kinda teared up bc I didn't really get what happened in the ending of the movie until seeing how you explained it now. Wow. Really. I didn't know I needed this video in my life, it closes so much of the vagueness I felt around a childhood movie. You're already at like 733k, but best know that you have a new sub from me bc of this
The Devil Wears Prada is one of my favorite movies that I’ve never actually watched because I feel personally offended every time I remember she got back with Nate at the end. Other than that, completely iconic.
mikes mic x devil wears prada is giving fendi x versace. a match made in heaven. the crossover of the lore, of the two universes. everybody moved and I've always said that
The comparison of Andy, an intern basically trying to start her careers going to Paris instead of Emily versus Miranda, a millionaire with years if experiencing approaching retirement age betraying her closest friend doesn't feel right. Like I get what the writers were trying to do but it didn't quite hit with me
not to mention andy was literally blackmailed with her entire career and future like ma'am please... still a slay scene though, shows a lot about what goes through mirandas head
The writing was a little lazy here since it was Miranda that really made the choice. Yeah, Andy could have opted out but Miranda made it clear that she would be screwed if she did so. If the writers were willing to make the film more serious, they could have left the choice entirely up to Andy which would have made her a more complex and dramatic character at the expense of making her a less likeable character.
this movie is my Star Wars- I've literally seen it hundreds of times so I know the story, the plot, the themes and elements by heart-- and I EXTREMELY ENJOYED this recap.
i like these videos. it feels like we’re friends who only see each other every six months and when i ask what you’ve been up to, you just infodump about your latest interest for three hours.
This movie defined me in a way i cannot explain. It made me realize there was more to the fashion industry than just "being pretty." Safe to say Miranda's quotes are my constant inner dialogue. The times that i think about this movie and mentally quote it every day would astound you. This movie slays in every sense of the word. That's all.

In the belt scene, the assistant wasn't even saying the colors were different, it was the buckle that's different. Goes to show how oblivious Andy was
22:46 fun fact about this line; originally it was “everybody wants to be me,” but Meryl Streep changed it during a table read to the iconic line we all know because she felt her version added more depth and meaning.
Stanley Tucci's character says something like "fashion is the art that you live in" and I feel like that is a quote that I live my life by.
I remember reading that the original line was "everybody wants to be me" and meryl streep changed it to "us" which i feel like really shows that miranda sees Andy (and her team as a whole) as an extension of herself and that's why she has such strong demands of all of them, not only that but it hammers home that Andy has become "one of them" whether she was willing to admit it or not
@@SuzER08 oh wow that's so cool! I love that, that's such an impactful moment
Hyhu
and that's on Meryl the G.O.A.T. Streep
While the cerulean scene is iconic, we all know that cerulean was in fact made popular in the 90s due to Cerulean City in Pokémon Red and Blue (and Green and Yellow) with Misty (girlboss) as the gym leader
Kalos Fashion Week is the most important week in the year!
those games invented lavender too 💅
Facts
fun story, one time i wrote a book and named something in it “cerulean” and when my friend read it he said “dude you can’t just name this thing after a town in pokémon” and i was like “…did you just say that you think pokémon invented cerulean” and that was the day he learned that the town names in kanto were all colour-based.
I think it speaks to Stanley Tucci's acting that we still loved Nigel even tho he was basically telling Andy to starve herself bc she was a size 6 lol Also did we just skim over Gisele Bundchen's cameo?!
and heidi klums
Even though a size 6 is objectively not “fat”, I do appreciate that Andy doesn’t go lower than a size 4. In hindsight, this is actually a best case scenario for this era. They could have been like “be a size 00 or gtfo”
Dude size 6 is like the small side of average what the heck
I think we all hated that part of this movie but I mean it was realistic for 2000’s fashion and beauty standards and much more common for people to get fat shamed so casually, even though ofc size 6 isn’t fat but for the industry and models her size was large. It also drew the big divide between Andy who is happy with her life and all the girls at runway who essentially want to be models and wear the clothes in the magazine, just another way to point out how she’s different
I’m sorry but I hated him for that 😭
The Devil Wears Prada was the first film where I thought: “This is art”. Years later and I still think that.
A true kino art house masterpiece
I want a Muppet's The Devil Wears Prada, where Miranda is played by Miss Piggy, and Emily Blunt is the the only human actor in the film, and they never acknowledge the fact that Emily is the only human surrounded by Muppets
Didn't that kind of happen in one of the Muppet movies?
Finally someone with some vision.
Lol at first I was like lol then I was like oh yeah this actually did happen and I love it
I need this!
YES THIS somehow????
all the girlies in this movie slayed, even the crusty friend who keeps siding with the crusty boyfriend. at least she had one legitimate reason for not being an andy supporter at some point. emily still slaying work in CRUTCHES. miranda still slaying even in DIVORCE ERA. andy still slaying even when her crusty boyfriend is trying to minimize her slay. just snaps for everyone.
Bro you just dropped major facts
sincerely obsessed with the juxtaposition of “is that what youre wearing to watch this video” versus how videos used to open with outfit compliments. not everyones willing to do it but we are all better for it.

i love that andi is supposed to be "sad" and "not pretty" at the beginning because of her "horrible fashion sense" but she's anne hathaway, she's still stunning like - 5:56
This emily is the only emily who deserved to be in paris
No one deserves to be in Paris, that's cruel and unusual punishment.
@@kellylynnnoble6176What do you have against Paris?
@@noemistephanie93stinky tbh
Emily Blunt is amazing in this movie. She steals a lot of the scenes she's in, eg the cheese cube diet. I love the final line: "I'm only one stomach flu away from my goal weight." I'm disappointed that Emily Blunt the actress isn't exactly the same as Emily the character in this movie. Apparently she's much less snobby and bitchy in real life.
"are you wearing the--" "surf shark vpn? yeah" is actually the hardest i laughed during the entire video

Screamed gagged flabbergasted 🤭 and his evil laugh? Floored me
"I support women's wrongs." - I fucking love that! Her whinging boyfriend pissed off that she had a more glamourous flex-worthy job and was actually getting somewhere with it.
Bundchen's cameo?!
Whinging is such a good word
Idk I would be pissed too if my boyfriend misses my Birthday. And changes everything about himself just to fit in a very toxic environment.
@@Isabelle-hv6ny except he never complained when it benefited him - the lingerie, for example, which immediately ceases his protests about her clothes. Plus...she still turned down a major networking opportunity in hopes of getting to his birthday on time, and really, in the grand scheme of things, it's one birthday, for a WORK event. It's not the end of the world
the montage of Andy with her new slay outfits changed and DEFINED my ENTIRE existence as a 9yo who dreamed to be a fashion designer, I cant even explain.
I lived this to a tee as well! Simpatico on them feelings.
Miranda was a visionary. She knew why Emily shouldn't go to Paris. And now, here we are. Emily is in Paris.
I NEEDED THIS MORE THAN ANYTHING. THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA IS THE BEST MOVIE IN THE WORLD.
Most iconic quote by Nigel: “Let me know when your whole life goes up in smoke. Means it's time for a promotion.”
the laugh after "is she perhaps sorry for using the internet without a vpn?" ... diabolical if you will
I LOVE the smile at the end, because when they’re at the OG James Holt preview, Stanley Tucci is all ‘Miranda has smiled once on record’ and it was viewed as her ultimate seal of approval.
Ok but why is no one talking about how Mike knew by heart Miranda’s 2 minute speech? Like damn, that’s some talent 😭
michael microphone doing a 'Devil Wears Prada' commentary while wearing PRADA!!!!! The serve of the century methinks. The devil works harder but our ferral king works harder.
does this imply that mr microphone is the devil
@@c_amo 🧐👹
If you've ever seen steel magnolias, Miranda crying about the divorce but then saying "why would I cancel" has the same energy as m'lynn crying in the hospital but then ordering the guys to get the funeral ready. Like strong women crying and then getting shit done. Period
i love that movie 😭😭
Omg I love that film!
My sister and I still quote it to this day
SHELBY, DRINK YOUR JUICE
the fact that I just watched both of these movies for the first time yesterday and then see this comment. you’re so right
Yes! 🖤 My mother was adamant about how good that scene was.
@@Namitsukichan ah okay now i understand! tysm!!
5:32 honestly I don’t recall a single moment where Miranda raises her voice…at anyone… and that’s because she doesn’t need to! I love that, that’s POWER.

this is genuinely one of the most rewatchable movies of all time. like i can watch this everyday and never get sick of it.

now one thing about miranda priestly, she's going to get in and out of a car in slow motion. this blank stare plus reverse quarter turn drop combo honestly deserves an olympic medal. like when will the other figure skaters? OMG this scene has lived rent free in my mind since 2006. I play it on repeat.. thank you. waiting on simone biles to nail that drop combo at the next regionals or whatever

The way my head SNAPPED over to my phone when you asked me “is that what you’re wearing to watch my video?” I was ready to fight
RIGHT LIKE I just got home from work and put pajamas on give me a break, I gasped
"I can pretty much quote this entire movie... AND I WILL! That's the thing" I never felt so seen attacked and comforted at the same time
King avoiding copyright AND slaying while he does it by doing incredible impressions of the whole movie

At 5:38, "that's like Exodia vibes: how do you counter that?", I SCREAMED. Yu-Gi-Oh! references, in a Devil Wears Prada commentary? Hell to the yes.
The kids wanting the unpublished next book of Harry Potter bc they want to know what happens next is so relatable, idek if I can get mad at nepotism making it happen for them
OMG waiting for the next HP book was such a big part of my youth.
If I had that possibility after reading book 6 I would have used it. No way I would have been able to control myself. Pretty sure I would do the same for some other books even now as an adult
This video is officially the first time someone roasted my outfit and I didn’t feel offended. Keep slaying Mike!!!
I’m wearing my laundry day sweatpants, so… fair.
14:34 “What are they gonna do with that? Cher.” Screameth.
this video cleared my skin and cleansed my soul thanks for this absolutely unsolicited source of serotonin, my slayometer is showing the highest reading for the past couple of months and my life has taken on a new meaning now that i know that there’s a community of mirandanators out there. that’s all.
Meryl and Anne total icons kept on slaying scene after scene but MISS EMILY BLUNT kept my jaw on the floor just coming for everyones neck stealing the show at the mere sight of her.
There's not a scene with Emily that I didn't love.
Andy running through the streets of Paris in that iconic tulle outfit with pigeons aesthetically flying around counts as motivation.
The scene where Andy and Christian "hook up" is like... legitimately SA. She laid out how it was wrong of him to try to sleep with her but that spiel was supposed to be the "joke." She sat there saying she's too drunk, she just broke up, she's vulnerable, she's in a new city, etc... and he just kept going for it till she gave in. It was treated like a funny teehee moment but it is SO uncomfortable to watch
Yeah that whole thing gave me the creeps
It was gross, but tbh she didn't seem bothered or surprised at all when she woke up
@@бронза.вафля.конус Prob cuz it's a movie from the early 2000s so the writers didn't put that in there because it was teehee cute, not because it wasn't SA
@@arc4705 sure but at the end of the day, what matters is that she wasn't bothered. Similar things happen to men and women irl and if they're not bothered and if they consent then it's not SA

I loved this movie because I wanted to be a Fashion Designer. So, I went and did that and worked as a Stylist for a top Studio in Australia. Got fired for not being enough of a sales rep (my degree and education are in fashion.) Had my Andy moment. Now I am studying STEM and do Costuming for Film productions on the side. Had the same boyfriend the whole time (he is far from a crust lord)., and we now live together. My life is a movie.
This is a great fantasy lol
I really enjoyed the screenshots with the captions mixed with occasional clips! Very fun, very impressive how much Mike has memorized. Iconique
Michael Mic, I just wanted to let you know I've been plagued with a shit mood for weeks now but I had my first genuine laugh in quite a while within 45 seconds of the video. So thank you, I needed that and to be reminded my purpose is to serve and slay.
😂😂😂😂😂
Fourth grade you hit the slay button
I’m so proud of you
Absolute queen shit you started in fourth grade
i have no idea what this channel is about, i dont usually watch these types of videos on youtube, i dont even know if i would consider this like a video essay thing, all I know is that your personality, narration and personal breakdown of this movie completely enthralled me and I love exactly how it touches on some key things (like how deep the fashion industry choices affects us and that butterfly effect) from the movie but its doesnt get too analytical.

Amazing
mikes mic x devil wears prada is giving fendi x versace. a match made in heaven. the crossover of the lore, of the two universes. everybody moved and I've always said that
The comparison of Andy, an intern basically trying to start her careers going to Paris instead of Emily versus Miranda, a millionaire with years if experiencing approaching retirement age betraying her closest friend doesn't feel right.
If the writers were willing to make the film more serious, they could have left the choice entirely up to Andy which would have made her a more complex and dramatic character at the expense of making her a less likeable character.
i can't stop rewatch his videos, it's so comforting !
the IBS - Intergrity Before Slay- intervention was just epic lmao
