    hi lizzy, while you’re here in canada i hope you are able to also take some time to learn about our first nations, iniut and meti people. this thursday is national day for truth and reconciliation and i am sure you’ll see things about it on the news or online. a great place to start is learning about the ‘land acknowledgment’ of the city you are in at the time and learning about the indigenous peoples whose land it is. there are so many beautiful indigenous cultures in canada and it’s up to us to learn about them. ❤️ i hope you enjoy the rest of your stay!

    Fo really popular, booked-up restaurants, like the one you mentioned, it sometimes works to take the earliest possible reservation, or if they don’t take them, go right when they open. Five or five-thirty is often available, also you get great, fresh service and food, and your choice of the daily specials, fish, etc., that can sell out by 7:30. I just have a full, late breakfast, then skip lunch, to be hungry early. This has often got us into the best restaurants when nothing else worked.

    Loved this video, Lizzy, I lived in Canada for just over a year and was in Vancouver this time last year, so it brought back some lovely memories. Can I recommend you pick up Frying Plantain by Zalika Reid-Benta? Its a coming of age story about a girl growing up in Toronto's Little Jamaica neighbourhood. I worked for the publisher and this was one of my favourites! Enjoy the rest of your trip x

    This is making me want to move to Vancouver, the climate there looks a lot more attractive than the UK. My friends that live there have told me it's super hard to find a job because most Canadians want to live there and it's also incredibly expensive (more than London apparently?)
    I'm wondering if this time around travelling alone has been much different compared to when you went to Japan?
    How's Luigi doing is he staying in a pet hotel?
    p.s: sorry for all the questions

    • @erinvk2131

      I live in a suburb of Vancouver. It rains just as much as UK I think (depending on part of UK). It’s crazy expensive for housing. Not sure how $$ it is compared to London. But 1 bedroom suite 45 min drive from downtown will cost you $1200-$1500 per month. Shortage of places to rent too.

    • @TeeshJay
      @TeeshJay 2 роки тому +3

      hey! I'm from Vancouver, lived in London for 10 years. London has a lot more jobs and more opportunities to work at big well-known companies (and big start up scene!) and vancouver is smaller, so will have less to choose from. Depends on your industry but for mine (tech/fashion) I think there is more opportunity in London.
      Obviously, life is much more than your work. I prefer 5+ weeks of holiday in London, my friends in Vancouver really struggle with 10 days holiday. I've been told it gets better when you are more "established" or work for yourself.
      I prefer arts and culture so London is my city, but if your idea of fun is skiing/hiking/golfing/camping and want to be closer to nature, Vancouver is a good way to go.
      Rent seems about the same, but I think the difference in London is that people will live further out from the city (better public transport) and that is the norm. I'm biased as I grew up in vancouver city centre so have a hard time picturing myself moving back and living outside of town.
      Weather wise they are pretty similar, but Vancouver has developed more extreme weather in the last 10 years due to climate change. In the past we would never have snow in the winter, and the forest fires/heatwaves in the summer were not as extreme.
      Political climate i'm more positive about Canada
      Long answer but i've had a lot of time to think about this! There are some other things i cant stand about vancouver hence why i dont live there, but those are super personal bias haha. Anyway I hope this helps, let me know if you have other questions

    • @_giraffed
      @_giraffed 2 роки тому +1

      @@sophiespice Wow! Thank you so much for your detailed response, I really appreciate it!
      By climate I mainly meant an actual & smoother summer haha, I have quite a few friends that live in the Quebec region and even there they get sun most of the summer... Don't get me wrong I love London for its diversity, opportunities and atmosphere but the lack of sunshine is beginning to weigh on me... and by that I don't necessarily mean sunshine=hot weather.

    • @sophiespice
      @sophiespice 2 роки тому +2

      @@_giraffed this summer was brutal right?? I went back to Vancouver in July and it was 29 degrees with beautiful sun for two whole weeks. Went to a tiny remote island for part of it and it was just…so good and so different. I think in London, even if it is sunny it doesn’t feel as nice. Walking around city streets in the sun isn’t the same as looking out onto water, walking on the beach, etc. I’ll choose beach to beer garden any day. Seriously if you want to know any specifics just reach out!! More than happy to help
