Toyota Techstream for ALL Windows | How to Install and get it WORKING Everytime | Landcruiser 200

- In this video I walk you through how you get Toyota Techstream to communicate with your Landcruiser 200 Series using Microsoft Windows 11 or Microsoft Windows 10 and earlier versions.
Techstream and the Mini VCI cable that connect to your Landcruiser 200 series OBDII port were both designed to operate in a 32 bit environment. Most modern computer operating systems are 64 bit and this creates communication errors between the computer and Mini VCI cable.
In this video I install a 32 bit operating system within my 64 bit Windows operating system using a Virtual Box. From there I install Toyota Techstream onto Windows XP running in the Virtual Box.
This is a great solution to get a consistent and problem free linkage between your laptop, through your OBDII port reader, to the Landcruisers ECU systems.
The links for the two programs you will need to get this to work can be found below.
Virtual Box - This is the link that installs Windows XP within your main operating system.

I had such a hard time trying to figure out how to get this to run with windows 10. You helped me a lot on this and allowed me to turn off my DRL lights that I needed to do since they were flickering. Also allowed me to turn on a few features i didn't know I had. Thank you for posting this.
Good stuff Reece, I’m glad it’s worked for you. Really cool😎👍
@@JafffaAdventures Hi, Terry hope you can help me. here. My car is a Toyota Yaris I have a windows 8.1 32 bit system but i think i deleted the x86 program files on it by mistake in the past is that necassary? because on another y tube demo for a different tool for Toyota the complicted procedure showed these files being used or does Virtual Box over come any problems like that? If not would buying a new windows 8.1 download again fix this? any usful information would be good thanks
@gtibruce sorry mate, I’d love to help but it’s very difficult given I have not experienced the issue you describe. If it were me, I’d go with a fresh install of Windows and then download and execute as per my video. Good luck mate. Cheers👍😎
@@JafffaAdventures Hi just come across this question and answer from a tech forum reply and so as i read it seems i can save an new windows install and try your instructions when i get round to buying the tool. Perhaps thats why when you say a 32 bit system works best is because these program files are installed on 32 bit system by default
Hope i can get back to you if i get stuck! here is the answer.
Therefore you are running a 32 bit version of the Windows operating system. In essence, you don't need to install the program files (x86) folder, as your operating system is already equipped to run 32 bit applications.
Your program files folder won't say program files (x86) because this is a folder installed on 64 bit operating systems only
Therefore, your program files folder should only read program files.
@gtibruce good to know mate, good luck with your solution, seem like you are on the right track👍😎
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! I've wasted many hours trying other methods that you described to connect with a Win10 machine. Running under a virtual WinXP environment worked perfectly. The XP image loaded up with necessary software already installed. I just needed to plug in the cable and run Techstream.
Good stuff mate, I’m glad it has worked well for you like it has for others. Now Windows 10 can update all it wants and you will still have a working Techstream in you 32 bit virtual box. Go well mate😎👍
You are the best. I was stuck when I performed the air bleeding. I tried many times, but still failed. Until I used your system, I passed it finally. You save my car. Thank you.
That’s great news mate, thanks for sharing👍😎
Thank you so much sir! I've been searching for this for 6 months and found nothing! Finally a clear and concise guide to a working program! You're the best!
Good stuff Caleb, I’m glad I could be of assistance. Cheers👍😎
@@JafffaAdventures hi , can You tell me if this is a full option version ? I have one but dont have lots of thing , i need calibrate a passanger seat , have code b1150
Yes, it’s the full option version that Toyota dealers use.
Do you mind checking if you got any virus from that free software?
Thanks! Worked a treat, plugged into my 2007 Prius and ran a full check. No issues apart from the passenger side AC detector, much to my surprise.
Great news mate, well done. Glad I could help👍😎
Another happy user. Loading Virtual Box was fine. I did have to play with the display parameters to make it look right on my MS Surface laptop. I had some trouble loading the OVA file, so I deleted everything under the Virtual Box and started from scratch. The second time it worked. I was able to configure my old Avalon and make a few minor changes. Thank you for the very helpful video.
That’s awesome mate, I’m glad you persisted with it and got it sorted in the end. Thanks for sharing your experience 👍😎
Brilliantly done. Worked straight up on the Lexus. Big thanks to you. 👍
Good stuff mate, I’m glad you had a successful outcome. Well done😎👍
Wonderful Terry!
Thanks a lot for this tip.
I was frustrated after as this cable got delivered a couple of days ago and I was looking in all avenues to successfully make use of it to toggle a couple of features in my 2009 Corolla hatch.
Your video popped just in to save heaps of my time.
That’s awesome news Sagun. It will be great to get it working. Cheers👍😎

Perfect pack! worked perfect to Toyota Prius 2010. I really appreciate your help

Thanks Peter that’s very kind of you to say and to take the time to share. I’ll keep doing my best mate, cheers👍😎
Excellent video, gave me the clues I need to solve the Techstream won't hook up to car issue !!
Thank you for posting !!
That's awesome feedback mate. I'm glad it is sorted for you. Welcome to the wonderful world of onboard diagnostics!! Cheers
Awesome video!
Funny, I basically just did this last week also. Virtual box was the key for me too, almost bought an old laptop just for it. Have a good weekend mate.
That’s awesome that you found the same solution mate, thanks for sharing. I’m back on the 200’s brakes this weekend to finish them up. Thanks for watching 👍😎
I've tried 4 different versions of Techstream and this is the only one that allowed me to both read live data and write to the ECU. I used it to install new TPMS sensors in a Prius. Thanks for posting this.
That’s awesome news Martin, thanks for sharing your success mate. Cheers👍😎

Hi, in my toyota handbook it says you should not keep the ignition on for more than 10 minutes meaning without any special intervention like this so once you connect the tecstream device can you just turn the ignition key to auxillary or does the ignition have to be fully on and if so then does the device compensate for this or at least keep the vechicle running so the coil system does not overheat
@gtibruce I have a diesel so there is not coil to overheat in this application. The vehicle either needs to be running or in the on position, switching it to accessory shuts the power down to the OBDII port. Cheers👍😎
Very useful video. Installation went flawlessly for me. I had a heck of a time trying to get Techstream to run in Win 10 64 bit. The virtual window works great.
That’s great to hear Frank, thanks for sharing your success 👍😎
@@JafffaAdventures Hi Jeff, just for interest ive managed to download virtual box on another old laptop with windows 10 so when it comes to buying which will now be the V18 version tool im i better to download the disc provided than using the i hate mud forum and try to get that on virtual box or does i hate mud one incorperate everything needed; drivers etc in one go? Thumbs up. Love the image concept using Virtual Box. It works!
Good stuff mate, I’m glad it worked for you and others. Cheers👍😎
Thank you so much for making this video it is awesome. I spent weeks going through various forums for my RAV4 which was a complete waste of time. I even (perhaps stupidly) paid $29 just to join one of the forums where the admin was so arrogant about being emailed for exact instructions.
They gave me a serial number for the registration that I used then realised I had installed VB with 64-bit Windows 7 which did not work.
I asked for another key for Techstream that I had now downloaded to VB with 32-bit Windows 7 and was told to go back to the forum. Totally unhelpful........
Then I came across your brilliant video.
So simple to follow and with all the info right there for FREE!
Well, I couldn't have been more delighted.
It's just gone midnight here in Ireland so I haven't had a chance to try this out (it's dark), but I am sure it is going to be a success.
So thank you again, Jaffa, for taking the time to record this, you Sir, are a Gentleman and a STAR!!! 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩

Thanks for this video and excellent instructions! I was able to get techstream up and running in no time after I enabled virtualization technology in the BIOS as suggested by Mr. Doodle. Works with my 2002 japan corolla fielder.

Thank you for yr very useful video, I followed yr steps works wonderfully, just wanted to add to the people like me with limited knowledge about computing (if u got newish computer u need download visual c++ 2019 version before downloading a virtualbox if u don't have one already other wise it won't download virtualbox) other than that all is very straightforward. Thanks again jafffa.

The version that's distributed with those off brand Chinese cables has various malware in it. The virtual box should protect you anyway, but be careful.
@ahdziz666 indeed 👍
An extra tip

@@ultratraileric I'm in the same boat new to tech stream. I'm seeing this service on Amazon for 55 bucks with disc and cable.. is this a one time purchase for a life time use? or a monthly type subscription thing, and having to be a registered mechanic etc. just a back yard mechanic here who owns nothing but Toyotas and Lexus .. also seeing it for sale in eBay for cheaper .. any info would be great and link to purchase for software/cable.
Cable can be picked up from eBay or Amazon, they are all reasonably priced. There is not subscription, the solution I present here is free and lasts the lifetime of the user. Cheers👍😎

Will this work if I set the virtual machine as windows 10? Or should I leave it as XP?
@scotturquhart5454 leave it as XP exactly as the video. Any deviation may result in it not working. Remember Windows 10 is 64 bit which is the source of all the problems in the first place. Cheers
Thank you thank you!!!
I will guve it a try this weekend

Not sure I understand the question Tom. Executable files are all included in downloads and instructions I provided. Good luck mate👍
I suspect so Tom but I did not specifically look because it worked for me so assumed executable files had to be there for this to occur. If you followed the instructions to the letter then I don’t see why it would not work as it has for many others. Good luck regardless mate.😎👍

Well done Terry! Another great video. I have a 2008 VX Diesel which missed out on crawl control (which was available in the same year Petrol and would be handy). So, I have replaced the "4WD Control" module and console switches with a later version. However, unlike some other Toyota models, simply replacing the modules/switches, does not enable it ... It is surely in there somewhere since the same year Petrol model had it .... maybe TechStream can enable it ....

G'day Terry. Loving your channel . Browsing Ebay for this mini VCI, seems there might be multiple vendors, some which are described as 'unbranded'. Which one did you use? (some might not be as good as the one you have). Your instructions on how to set up the virtual aspects are brilliant. Like you I have the LC200. My laptop is running Win10 64bit so I'll step through your vid carefully so as I get the 32bit overlay working as needed....
Thanks Chris, that’s very kind of you to say. I don’t recall the specific vendor I bought it from but it was a cheap one, I do remember that. They all looked the same to me, certainly from the photos on epray anyway. I would simply get the one that has the same writing on it as mine, that way it’s the closest approximation. Cheers😎👍
Having trouble running it in virtual box in late 2023?
I found the new version of virtual box, 7.0+, would "abort" booting XP on the windows logo screen and trying it again would show the "windows shutdown unexpectedly" black screen. I could boot into safe mode from that screen and run techstream, but safe mode has a tiny display and is difficult to use.
I tried a lot of troubleshooting but could not get it working normally.
After uninstalling everything and downloading the old 6.1 version in the video, bam, it worked normally and the display was back to a usable size and techstream worked.
Be aware that the Virtual Box website said it won't be supporting 6.1 after December 2023.
Thank you for the video, by the way!
Good feedback mate, thanks for sharing. Cheers👍😎
Your current setup seems slow because the default for this VM setup has got dinosaur parameters. Go to Settings->System->"Motherboard" & "Processor" tabs. Slide them as far right into the Green as possible. If you're running an older computer, you might want to cap your Base Memory at 4096MB (4GB). However, you can theoretically go higher, as long it's its not a large percentage of your actual machine's RAM. Assuming you have at least 16GB of RAM, you could probably safely use half of this, or 8GB. Do the same for "Display"->"Screen"->"Video Memory". If you notice your actual computer slowing down drastically while using VirtualBox, backoff on the RAM. Try to keep it to a power of 2 (eg. 2^12 = 4098).
Great feedback Paul, thank you. I’ll give this a try. It’s not OTT slow, but if I can speed it up a little that will be beneficial. Thanks again 👍😎

Thanks for the great video Terry! I was very excited to find out this could be so easy.
I did run into an issue that I am hoping you can help with. I live in the USA and when I install this whether I use the North America or the Global it doesn't seem to be working. I have a 2013 Toyota Prius II which should have a model code of ZVW30 which is not an option under the Global setting. Either way nothing auto populates when I have the system all connected. Maybe I have a bad Mini-VCI? Any help will be greatly appreciated!
I’m glad you have things working to a point mate. Unfortunately, that’s where my knowledge base ends. I do not know why your model is not populating as it should. I would be suspecting the cable, but that’s only a guess. Good luck and let the broader community know if you find a solution so we can all learn. Cheers😎👍
Brilliant me man! I finally got it. Like some others if you have issues getting the virtual interface to open Windows XP and yours keeps aborting try this: Turn off your laptop and when you reboot, press the hotkey (this may be specific to your brand of laptop so google "your brand + hotkey) . Its probably F10 on your keyboard, again press that hotkey at reboot screen. That will take you to your BIOS SCREEN. Here you need to go to either the tab called 'ADVANCED' or 'CONFIGURATION'. You need to 'ENABLE' the ' VISULISATION TECHNOLOGY' , save settings and restart laptop. This will allow the virtual screen to run windows XP.
Great feedback and awesome clear instructions, thanks for sharing your success so others can learn as well. Cheers😎👍
Yessss! Im gonna try this because the virtual box wrote the same. Either in bios or elsewhere I have to enable something like that! Im gonna redo the whole again! Thanks!
Good luck mate👍😎
I also had to do this process. On a HP, spam Esc key, then F10 and cycle across the top menus to enable the visualisation. Worked perfectly after that.

Thank you sir for this awesome video! I run Techstream at first attempt, well done! On my first engine scan live data, inyector #4 is in 2.9 value, should I be worried? Engine was warm enough. Thanks!
That’s awesome Manuel, I’m glad it’s worked for you first go. That injector value is right on the limit mate, I would monitor it very closely. Cheers👍😎
Thanks, that is really a great video. Can you please shed some light on Techstream (Air Conditioning) ECU. I am having problems on the Servo Motors on my LC200, they are all mixed up. Air flow is coming only from wind shield and not from the Driver nor Passenger side. I tired Techstream to initialize the Servo Motors several times with no effect. I am almost positive that the servo motors or okay since I have been getting this problem since the car was new. Please if you can make a video explaining anything that can also be done other than initializing the servo motors
Sorry mate, outside my field of expertise. Cheers👍
tremendous! Thank you so much! I've a 2018 Avalon, however. Will the Tech stream recognize it? Or, is there an updated techstream? So great the links are continuing to work.
Techstream will recognise it👍
I never comment on UA-cam videos. I have to say thank you for posting something useful and it genuinely work. One question I have for you, does it matter what type of Mini VCI cable is used? I've notice many of the cables on Amazon/Ebay have version numbers tied to them. As long as it's a Mini VCI that supports 32bit it should be fine right? Thanks for you help.
Good feedback mate, thank you. As long as the Mini VCI cable supports 32 bit, you are good to go mate👍😎
Hey man
First of all, thanks for the video as it's really helpful
I just picked up a 2008 Lexus LS460 and have a 2009 Lexus ES350. I want to add keys but am not sure whether any cable off of ebay or amazon would work as I know that the cables have different softwares or something.
Please let me know so I know which cable to look for in order to maximize the software capabilities/customization
Thanks!
I have used two different cables, both worked. It’s not the cable that trips people up, it’s the software recognising the cables. Enjoy your journey mate👍😎
Thank you sir am very great full
No worries mate, cheers👍😎
One more.
Usually on PCs you press F8 to get in BIOs setup, but on Laptop HP Envy 360 it is F10
Sweet😎
Great video.I haven't try but the ideea with a virtual box is brilliant.
My question is....i live in UK and i have a Japan imported Prius.Which region should i chose for this imported car?
Thanks
I would choose the region I noted in the video. That lets you access global Techstream which is the one you want👍😎
Hey Mate, am I correct this should work with LC 150 as well ??
Thanks for the vids mate very informative as usual.
Catch ya bud.
D
Yes, Daryl if the vehicle is a Toyota and I has an OBDII port it should work. It’s the same software the dealer uses for all their work. Have a great weekend mate 😎👍
Hello, thank you for the video. I want to diagnose/reset/calibrate blind spot sensor on my 2018 rav4. Is there a specific version of techstream software I should use? Thank you.
Note sure mate, the version I provided here is the only one I have used and it has worked fine. You’ll have to find your answers elsewhere. Cheers
I have a document somewhere around here that I wrote to get 64bit working on Windows 7, I need to update it for 10/11 if it is needed. I pulled together tips and instructions from multiple places into a single doc. It wasn't that hard once I used that document. I never had a problem with Updates removing the drivers, but I also don't update it THAT often, since I just use it for the car.
Ok
Hi mate, love ur video mate, thank you for the video, only have one question please. My Toyota Crown 2002 model imported is not listed in the drop down. I’ve got the V14 tech stream. Do you by any chance know what I have to do please? Thank you
Sorry mate, I don’t own a Crown so am not certain. Maybe select a model that has the same motor as your Crown, that would be what I would try. Cheers👍😎
G'day Terry
Been a few years since I've been down under. I miss it. Great video, and I have a dumb question. GX460 did not see it listed as you scrolled thru the list. I assume it is because of "other"
Rather than North America?
Thanks for a very helpful video
Brian
Thanks for your kind words Brian. I’m not certain why it was not listed, you can certainly change the region to NA to check. Cheers👍😎
thanks terry excellent and helpful info as always - appreciated
Good stuff Greg, I’m glad you found the content of value mate. Thanks for sharing and taking the time to comment😎👍
Awesome! Can I calibrate the speedometer after the installation of bigger tyres?
I’m not sure mate, I suspect you could if your vehicle supports that type of adjustment. It can’t hurt to try and share your experience. Cheers👍😎
Aweson! congrats
Cheers
Do you know if it matters what firmware version the cable is? Your instructions on the download work like a charm but there's two versions of cable I see out there. Do you think it will matter what version I get?
I don’t believe it will matter which firmware version you for the cable, it has worked on both new and old cables. Cheers👍😎
Fucking thanks you so much. lately, you only find long videos with tutorias with disgosting music at the end doest works. you my friend are one of the last persons that not look for views or likes, but really interest in doing helpfull content. thanks.
Cheers mate 😎👍
Great tutorial! Unfortunately im also experiencing expired license. Not sure what to do now
Me either mate, I worked when I cut this video
This is brilliant, i have an issue with ABS but not sure how to test which part is faulty have codes for low pressure, anyone knows how can i check if its master cylneder or accumulator faulty visa TechStream ?
That’s outside my field of expertise but someone may have an answer. Cheers
i trying to readapt a 2003 mr2 SMT, i have replaced the clutch and need to readapt the kiss points, gearbox works fine, but the clutch is too fierce at the moment. i have a recent copy of tech stream and have found my way to a page within that appears to allow the data to be altered, it states a range, but i don't have a data source. is there a procedure that will guide me through a full re-adaption,or is there a data source that i could assess to get the clearance data?
Sorry mate, this video details how to get Techstream working. You will have to search elsewhere for your answers😎
Thanks for information
My pleasure 😎👍
With out your information i could did not to install techstream thats great
That’s awesome mate, lots of others have got it to work so it’s great to see your success as well😎👍
Hello Terry and thank you for this post! I was wondering if this version of Toyota Techstream can be used on a USA version 2010 Lexus ES350 to upload new TPMS Sensor serial number codes. I recently had these new valves/sensors installed on all 5 tires. (CDWTPS TPMS Sensor,315MHZ Tire Pressure Monitor System 4-Pack for Toyota| Lexus| Scion Replaces#42607-33021 42607-33011 426070-6011 PMV-107). I tried using an ATEQ Quickconnect to upload serial numbers but having difficulty. Please advise to any tweaks for make and model; it would be much appreciated. Thanks in Advance!
Hi Craig, sorry mate I don’t own nor do I have any experience with a Lexus. You could give it a crack and post up your results here for others to learn from as well. The software downloads are free, the cable is $30 or $40 on eBay. Cheers😎👍
thank you a lot for the nice Video .. is there a newer version??
Would not know mate. This works perfectly for me, never had a reason to look.
