I work at harbor freight and just finished building our display unit, the pricing starts at around 3999 for the bottom base box and goes up from there, i didnt check it myself but another employee said all together for the display model it was around roughly 8-9000. The build quality is stupid good on this box, everything is very well put together and doesn't seem like it should be sold at HF but then again that is what we have been working on for the past few years is making product that is actually competitive with snap-on, dewalt, makita etc.

I don't think the tool truck model is a profitable model any longer. I'd be very surprised if HF jumped on board with that.
The problem with tool trucks is that with a proper supply setup, a company could warranty and replace your tools faster through the mail than they could on a truck.
Snap-On likes the truck model because it minimizes their risk by allowing a third party to assume their risk for a small profit margin.

Now that they've made a name for themselves and don't have to undercut the competition as much, they're unfortunately moving on to these new house brands that they can demand a higher price for which is more in line with their competition. Bear. Earlier today I visited my local Harbor Freight in Camarillo California. I was there to purchase a new tool box with accessories since I have grown out of my already large toolbox I have in my hangar. Walking in the front door I immediately saw the new Icon Roller Cabinet, Top Chest, upper Hutch and Side Cabinet configuration they had on display. I was very intrigued by the Icon set up and the size was exactly what I was shopping for. That is until I asked the store manager how much the entire unit cost with all the cabinets mentioned above. I just about fell over when he told me the price was $16,000.00. If I was going to spend that kind of money on a tool box I would have bought a Snap-On. What on Earth is Harbor Freight thinking? HF has established a reputation for offering good quality tool boxes to people who refuse to pay tens of thousands of dollars to store their tools. There is no way HF is going to compete with Snap-On, especially if their prices are comfortable. I ended up buying a US General 72in Triple Bank Roller Cabinet, 56in Top Chest and End Locker for $1,600 with coupon. And the US General tool box configuration I purchased has 1/3 more storage space than the Icon. Spending $16,000 for less storage space for a slightly better quality tool box is just stupid money. Harbor Freight is making a big mistake and in my opinion will be a short-lived product.

For home use the HF boxes can’t be beat. Their tool carts are amazing. No way would I buy a cart off a truck. Their hand tools still mostly suck.
But to say a HF tool box is as good or better than a Snap On or a Matco is just not even close to true. They compare Themselves to Snap On by cherry picking their data and numbers, that’s not a real comparison. While the dimensions are improved, most of you would be surprised at how much that extra inch in the Snap On and Matco box really makes. And it’s just no comparison to a 30” deep box. Not to mention that when you order a Snap On and Matco you can get custom drawer configurations to suit you.
